Anyone try the 06/12/20 King Sue? It tastes off compared to every other King Sue I've recently had and it has the same off taste as the recalled Psuedo Sue. Color looks more brownish and less hazy.

I read in the Mid-West TG thread that there were issues with their DH Mosaic PseudoSue and King Sue beers over a few weeks with some May/June time stamps. They refunded people that asked for refunds, for the few called out time stamps. So your experience with off flavors falls in line with others.

Just a word to the wise, if you've never had Stouthawks, don't bother seeking it out. Completely forgettable.

I still enjoyed it. A hefty pill $$ wise. Last bottle I had a couple months back was worlds ahead of the first at release as the booze mellowed out of it by a far stretch. Don't believe it's worth a premium, though, especially over its already premium retail.

Had Mornin' Delight '20 (batch 7) yesterday. Lots of maple, lots of coffee in equal amounts, with some vanilla and pancake flavors... medium-thick, sticky feel. I prefer it to '19 (b6) and certainly '17 (b4), but '18 (b5) is still tops out of the four different batches I've tried.

Term Oil 20-A (single barrels used for Assassin blends, which serve as their in-house BA imperial stouts. Basically, these are whatever is left over which wasn't blended into Assassin), and this barrel is definitely imparting dark fruit and chocolate raisin flavors into the blend. Big barrel too and good mouthfeel, but if you're not a dark fruit in stouts fan then this one is definitely not for you.

Term Oil 19-C on the other hand had a lot more licorice, 'leather' and molasses. It was also a bit thinner than 20-A, and a bit boozy.

However, the highlight was the DDH King Sue. Damn did that exceed expectations. The appearance may be different but this is what I remember King Sue being 5 years ago. LOADS of Citra hop flavors and aromas. It's been quite some time since I've had a beer so dominant in Citra forward profile. Absolutely loved it, especially when combined with that familiar lightly drying and bitter TG IPAs end, which offset some of the citrusy and juicy sweetness. It has a good mouthfeel without feeling syrupy like so many NE DIPAs, and even IPAs, these days. TG should halt all production of regular KS and immediately switch exclusively to DDH KS.

Had my Barrel Slayer last night after I finished up my kitchen renovation that has taken quite a while. It was my first bottle of barrel aged stout from TG, and it did not disappoint. Reminds me a lot of the BCS 2 Year Reserve. Tons of barrel character and dark chocolate. For anyone who has had this and Assassin, how do they compare?[IMG]

Funny, I almost posted this last night. I was lucky to drink Assassin 20 and Barrel Slayer side by side the other weekend thanks to my always generous friends. I preferred BS. They were both really good. Assassin was really hot and was super whiskey forward. BS was a much smoother stout. Just one guys opinion. Anyone know what kind of barrels these were aged in? I just noticed the labels said whiskey for Assassin and bourbon for BS.

I’ve never seen an answer to this for Assassin, but to me it is obvious when you taste Assassin that it isn’t straight bourbon barrels.

My guess is that they use the term whiskey because there is some Jack Daniels barrels in there. I may have read this somewhere, too, but it’s just as likely that i am recreating a memory based on a belief I hold.

Edit: @ktr5010 The kitchen looks beautiful. Great celebration beer, and great reason to celebrate.

Beer on the Wall, in Park Ridge, is doing a tapping of both on Saturday (today, noon-2PM). Saw it on their Instagram story.

FYI - to follow in your footsteps, I’ve been drinking a bottle of DDH King Sue every night for the last week... delicious!

May not be available in IL but I grabbed some Hopsmack in NWI the other day and it’s incredible. Probably the dankest beer I’ve had since last year’s Lagunitas Waldos.

Definitely going back for more after I finish this 4 pack.

Two years in the making and Kaiju Clash is finally here! [IMG]
After several years of enjoying each other’s beers and company at festivals all over the country, the time was finally right for the crew at Bottle Logic to travel out to Iowa in November of 2018. Bottle Logic’s trip to the Midwest led to the brewing of Kaiju Clash and was punctuated by a gold medal at the 2018 Festival of Barrel-Aged Beers. The goal of the project was to take aspects of various recipes we both brew, and rather than focus on one particular ingredient or barrel, we became excited about how we could utilize multiple ingredients and barrels separately, and then tie them back together in an integrative way. After a long day of boiling and weeks of fermentation, we laid this beer to rest in an assortment of bourbon barrels for the next 20 months. Not all barrels made the cut, but those that did compelled us to finish this beer with Panama-grown Geisha coffee roasted by our friends at Mostra and a careful mix of vanilla beans sourced from Mexico, Papa New Guinea, and Tahiti. Over two long years have passed since brew day, but we’re finally ready to share this beer with the world. Cheers!
Every Kentucky Brand Brunch Stout ticket-holder may purchase up to two (22 oz.) bottles of Kaiju Clash during the KBBS release December 4-5, 2020. Proxies may purchase up to two bottles per ticket (if proxying for ten people then 20 bottles will be allowed). You may only make your purchase of Kaiju Clash when redeeming your ticket(s) for KBBS at the curbside release, during your scheduled date and time. We will accept credit card payment only.
Don’t have a ticket to KBBS? Don’t fret! There will be a limited amount of pours of Kaiju Clash available on draft and the time will come for a future release of Kaiju Clash. Keep your eyes peeled for more info to come next week!

Sounds very interesting. I don't like the price tag on them ($53.55/bottle) but what the hell. I've been spending a lot of money on beer this winter (damn... it's not even winter actually :grimacing: )... but no point in stopping here.

TG just prints money on these BA stouts. Sure these will sell out regardless of price
