Considering this was a 4-bottle package and the absolute cluster that pickups will be I think they should have made it 15%, not $5. They offer a contact-free service where they drop off the beer in your car. This used to exist in gas stations and it was called full service and you paid extra. Also, they posted what the package entailed this morning, so most knew that the tip was included. I don't think this has anything to do with flippers, just the amount of work that the staff is going to end up doing hauling multiple 4-bottle packages to patrons. I hope they start doing this for all of their multi-bottle packages.

And you're going to price out the people that actually just buy your beers to drink them. Obviously they have the demand to seriously raise prices, but they also want their business to operate in a certain way, with a community and I think drastic price increases like that will price out the people they want buying the beer the most.

I think the packages and the included tips are great and are fair ways to keep business flowing during the pandemic when they have two tasting locations closed and zero draft sales

i also think that these releases (and this might be the new #1 now) are such a race to the finish line type scenario that nobody bothers to tip because then you won’t get a bottle.

however, i think it was @rmpic82 that mentioned you can put a tip in your cart prior to big releases like this and then it’s already there when you go to check out. i just imagine a lot of people don’t. if i forget to i make it up extra when i pick up Jammy or something that isn’t quite such a madhouse release.

I keep forgetting to tip on every release (especially when going through LC shop) so I've just been leaving a large lump sum tip once a month or so when I remember.

I do appreciate that the tip is just a separate item because you can go back and do it afterwards. I know some people have had it do the tip but not the bottle when it sells out while checking out.

This. I'm happy to give business to a local world-class brewery...but speaking from the standpoint of someone who actually drinks these bottles, getting into Napa/Sonoma red wine prices is simply not sustainable for the wallet. Unfortunately getting into upper echelon (top 1%) luxury goods pricing for beer will price someone like me out and I'll defer (unfortunately) to cheaper options in the area.

If Side Project charges $65 for a beer that resellers sell for $650 then Side Project is losing money on that beer. As an economist I would tell Side Project to increase prices more until supply = demand and they reach equilibrium. I know they won't do this because of their ideologies and I respect them for that, but, cmon people if you don't want to spend $65 on a world-class beer then the simplest solution is not to buy that beer. No need to complain about it on an internet forum.

This is exactly why I don’t chase rare bourbon anymore. They’ve priced me out of being their consumer. If beer ever goes that route on large scale I may just resort to exclusively drinking High Life.

I’m shocked you spend less on beer than bourbon. Unless you drink only high $ bourbon, and a pretty substantial amount, I’m surprised you don’t spend more. Limited craft beer and the trading associates is way more expensive.

There's more to business than capturing every cent of value, if Side Project was greedy like that they wouldn't have such a good local following.

I don't think it's greedy to want to provide for their employees. If they want to double prices, and give all the extra margin to their employees in the middle of a pandemic and worst economy since the Great Depression, I don't think any of us can fault them. Especially for what is a luxury expense anyways.

@Budah do you think charging $65 for BBT, including 3 BdP, and adding $5 for tip is capturing every cent of value? These guys obviously love their patrons and have demonstrated that over and over. People here are complaining about $65 for BBT and $5 for tip.

yeah pretty wild. 65 for a beer that a lot of people are going to turn around and sell for 700 dollars and people are angry... also, If you don’t want the BDP, just sell them to someone at cost? It’s not like you are truly paying 130 for the BBT

This is what I've done on quick releases. Tip after in a separate order.

I spend way more collectively on beer than I ever did on bourbon, but I buy a lot of beer. I just have a hard time going after Willett Bottles that all cost several hundred dollars at retail and every other limited release coming out now seems to be $100+. Plus I live in KY, so everything like that is a pain in the ass to get anyway. I still buy my daily drinker bottles that run in the $20-$30, but that’s all that’s really worth it to me as a drinker, not a seller/trader.
