I realize it’s Vermont, so far less Covid and people, but this still seems somewhat irresponsible in the middle of a pandemic.

I suppose if they’re obeying the state rules for capacity it should be ok, but still...

Went for family dinner outside, and they take social distancing, sanitation, and mask enforcement to new heights of compliance. I expect nothing less with this event.

Festivals are a different beast. People get wasted.

Absolutely not the same thing due to scale, but the actual Oktoberfest was canceled long ago. And Germany has an absurdly low number of cases.

But their beer gardens and bars are open.

Is this event likely to cause an issue? Probably not. Is it necessary to have a beer festival in the middle of a raging pandemic? No.

2020 Oktoberfest is more of family outing as opposed to a full-on festival - Timed sessions, capped capacity, assigned tables to the related parties “social family”…there’s potential for Von Trapp to handle this sensibly (hopefully)

Has anyone had issues with the staff (specifically host-staff) being super rude at the Bier Hall? I had a 12:15 reservation on Saturday. I finished up a hike early, so got there around 11:50 with my 20 month-old and my Dad. There were a TON of open tables. I asked if they could seat us early and was told, very rudely, that they could not. I wasn't going to try to entertain a hungry 20-month old for 25 more minutes, so we left. Had a great lunch at Idletyme.

Will not be back to the Bier Hall for a while. It appears to have officially become a tourist Trappe (see what I did there)

Never had an issue there with staff at all. I did show up right at open their first month they were open for lunch and had to wait because wait staff may not have been ready, but nothing attitude wise.

Just to give them the benefit of the doubt, they may just be being SUPER strict due to Covid.

I only say this because the one time I've been I don't recall them being rude.

I went to the Bierhall for dinner earlier this week. The host (a woman) was friendly and welcoming, but the older gentleman who was doing the seating was extremely rude. We eat there every few weeks, and this was our first bad experience. We figured that perhaps the guy was having a bad day and it won't keep up us from returning as the food and table service were top notch as usual, but it is disappointing that hear that others have also had bad experiences lately.

We’re going there today at 4:45 and will let u all know how it goes. We are very friendly, careful and easy going so figure it should go well.

My wife and I worked in the restaurant biz for 10 years. My moms been a waitress for 45 years. I can promise you that I've never treated anyone assisting me in a restaurant with anything but respect.

I'm not sure if you are insinuating that I was treated poorly because I'm not friendly, careful, and easy going, but you're wrong. We've had 2 experiences in a row where we were treated poorly by host-staff. Im assuming that this is because they're really, really busy. For that reason, ill stay away until the summer season dies down.

Enjoy your meal, shouldn't be a problem for such a laid-back bro.

It's been awhile since I've been to the bierhall, given current circumstances, but on our last few visits the staff were all very friendly. However they did botch our orders on the last 2 visits, and the corrections came very slowly. All was eventually made well, and it is a nice place to hang out and relax.

OP: The Helles is the best beer they make. Fantastic. I wish they could do that with the Pils.

I agree 100% on the Helles. Last time we were in VT, the Helles, specially the Natur Helles, was the big surprise of the trip for the wife and me. We had no expectations for Von Trapp Helles. Loved it--had three pours at the biergarten and left with a six.

But...everything here shutting down now between 9-10 or so....oof. God damn you college kids

That mandate for changing last call from 2am to 10pm in Burlington was made this week by the Gov and the Mayor after witnessing early party-hardy behavior of returning students. The remainder of the 12,000 show up this week in a city of 43,000, and people are rightly freaking out after a fairly chill summer season COVID-wise.
