Barbarian Haze IPA - sixer of cans $11 for curbside.

Sounds good. Happy they are putting out new beer!

Looks like this has already hit distro in the Chicago area (Beer Cellar, at least). Mentioned as having Citra, Simcoe and Mosaic hops. Curious to hear thoughts on it but I'm good for giving this one a try.

From the photos on Untappd, the beer doesn't appear very hazy. Actually, it very much looks clear in a lot of photos. Not that I care if it's hazy or not (actually would prefer it is not), but I'm just more curious because it's a new IPA from them and it's also hitting distro.

Everyone used to tell me that Bearded Iris produced NE IPAs. When I visited them a couple years back, mostly to pick some up for a couple people, I sampled several (being told to pick the "juiciest ones"), and to me...none of them seemed hazy.

Not sure what you call a "juicy-ish non-hazy NE-style IPA," but I don't think it should be Hazy or NE.

I'm convinced they won't ever make an actual turbid NEIPA. They have made many IPAs that they alluded to as being NEIPA, hazy or juicy, without them actually every being turbid. I imagine it's almost an internal joke at this point.

I agree, I don’t foresee them putting out a juice bomb. Anyone remember the pipeworks collab Zombie Vs Unicorn for DLD 2017? It’s been a few years but I remember that beer pretty juicy

I tend to agree. I wonder how much of it is just 3Floyds trolling the craft beer world.

Barbarian came in at my local store all the way down here in Cincy on Tuesday. Shared with my brother who said immediately, "That's not hazy at all."; To which I replied, "Hazy is nothing but a marketing buzzword.". It does, however, have those "juicy" (another buzzword) hop flavors found in a lot of NEIPAs. I'd say it's a good beer for the price.

It came in with Munsterfest, which I was greatly looking forward to, and definitely scratched the itch and is as good as always. Now, I'm just looking forward to the next 4 pack drop from FFF- I've found myself buying multiple packs of each of these releases and they've been oh so good after skipping those beers in the bomber format the last couple of years.

The last batch of draft only Backhanded Panther was probably their most hazy and it was delicious. I haven't tried it since they bottled it.

My father isn't able to drink right now, but on the off chance this is around (fresh) when he can again, would you say these are WC style juice flavors, or NE style? He's commented i don't know how many times that he really loves the grapefruit flavors, and...can't really decide if he likes "those other...juice flavors." He seems to be unwilling to identify them as tropical, or as being similar to any fruit, including oranges, pineapple, mango, etc. Anyway, this was all to say, if this has more of that grapefruit vibe, I'll be looking to tell him about it when he can get back to having a beer.

Yes, Grapefruit would be a good descriptor. Definitely NOT tropical.

FWIW, currently a 3.87 average on Untapped.

I don’t think fff will leap into the Milkshake IPA aspect of the style. If they did, I am guessing lactose with ginger and cardamom.

I find all FFF's "juicy, hazy, neipas" very redeeming beers. They are definitely full flavor, have fruit flavor and easily drinkable. At the end of the day they are closer in style to a West Cost IPA that has just been made with fruity hops and subjected to extra dry hopping. without any malty backbone. I don't recall having Backhanded Panther, but there is a long list of beers FFF has put out with similar descriptors. Look at 25 Million Dollar Man. Says "hazy" in the description, but isn't. But it does have bright fruit flavors.

I'm a bit of a hop newb. I know that WCIPAs are supposed to be clean, and crisp, hence the lack of malt backbone. I guess that is standard? Does that make something like a Bell's two-hearted more of a "MW" IPA? Trying to figure out where that malty-backboned IPA falls.

I had all of their "hazy" IPAs andtand only one that really stood out to me was Backhanded Panther. Tasted and looked like an actual NEIPA.

I would say WCIPA is characterized by clean / high bitterness / piney & citrusy American hops. Many did have a strong malt backbone, especially the Double IPAs, so I wouldn't say no malt is necessarily a trait. But certainly a higher amount of hop bitterness is a big factor. The IBU wars came out of WCIPA.

Two Hearted was more of a classic American IPA, which was more balanced so the malt backbone shines through a bit more. Many midwest IPAs, at least nearing the end of the WCIPA craze, tended to focus a bit more on fruity-ctirus hop flavors and less piney in general. But some were straight up WCIPAs

Yeah agree Midwest IPA and WCIPA are almost one in the same.

However, Two Hearted is much juicier and softer, and kind of always has been than other IPAs of its time, which has helped its longevity. But still assertive.

Thanks, guys. Like I said, my Dad loves certain types of IPAs, but it's hard for me to sometime obtain IPAs for him that are in his wheelhouse. This helps a lot.

Yeah, IMO Two-Hearted has always been its own animal. I can’t think of another IPA that has successfully mimicked the hop and malt profile of TH.
