Happy Repeal Day, folks! The prohibition of alcohol in the United States was repealed by the 21st Amendment 79 years ago today. How will YOU be commemorating this day in history?

Possibilities for me include Mint Chocolate Imperial Stout, Lips of Faith Biere de Mars, and 2XIPA. But we'll see, I might throw some wild cards into the mix later on.

The obvious choice for me is one of the cans of 21st Amendment Hop Crisis that's in my fridge.

    Cheers.

Happy Repeal Day! I think I'll celebrate with a Bourbon County Stout (it is a holiday after all). Then maybe I'll wash it down with some bathtub gin as a nightcap. You know, for nostalgia's sake.

I'll be commemorating this day like any other historicallly important day that falls during the week. I'll be commemorating this weekend.

Daniel Okrent's book Last Call: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition is a great read and really highlights just how utterly fucking stupid laws are that attempt to legislate morality.

    Drink up everyone!

Probably depends on what I can get on the way home, but if that falls short I've got two other options:
Flower Power- because stick it to the man, and all that...or
Bourbon County Stout- just plain because!

Agreed, it's an excellent book. I actually thought it set up the social/political conditions of the day nicely and I walked away with a more understanding view of the Noble Experiment. But...uh...enough book talk. BEER!

The only thing I'm concerned with is what 79 ounces of beer I should drink this year...it gets a little harder (read more awesome) to celebrate this day every year that passes.

I'm having a Midas Touch to celebrate today to honor the art of drinking that has been going on for thousands of years.

Now let's repeal other stupid laws aimed at consenting adults...

Chucks hop shop is having a imperial IPA invasion today, so I'll be drinking some high IBU goodness to celebrate.

I may just go with Budweiser for nostalgia's sake.

    From the Budweiser website...

By 1932 President Roosevelt was ready to correct the "stupendous blunder" of Prohibition. In a CBS broadcast on the eve of Prohibition's end, August Busch, Jr. announced: "Happy days are here again." In celebration, he and his brother, Adolphus Busch, presented their father August Busch, Sr. with two teams of Clydesdales, an iconic gesture and a part of the Budweiser identity to this day. The teams' first task - another iconic gesture - a delivery of Budweiser to the President himself.

...it was good enough for FDR so it's good enough for JBB.

    Cheers!

No need to limit yourself to Bud, since the Busch boys weren't the only brewers to send beer to the White House...

I think Yuengling also claims they sent some of their beer to D.C., but it was highjacked before it got there.

And, of course, these beer gifts were in April, 1933 - upon the legalization of 3.2 beer, not full Repeal in December (maybe why FDR gave it away- waiting for the "full strength" stuff to come after the adoption of the 21st Amendment).

Duvel for the first time. I hope it lives up to my expectations. I am a big Belgian fan but just hadn't ticked this one off yet.
