Prairie BA Peanut Butter Bomb! Imperial Stout, 14.4% ABV. Pours black with a 1+ finger light brown head that left residue instead of lacing. That's a lot of head for a Prairie stout. Nose is slight peanuts. Taste is coffee, peppers, peanut butter, some bourbon, licorice, moderately bitter. Disappointed with only a moderate peanut presence. Decent mouthfeel, overall outstanding. Nose improved with warming.

RReally great late summer/early fall day to go to the zoo with our daughter and grandkids. Glad I only bought two of these instead of loading up, had hoped for more. Still decent, but much prefer BBA and RBA Bomb.

Kicking off the New Beer Weekend with a Marzen. This one is from Hacker-Pschorr. Poured at fridge temp. Pours a nice golden brown with little head. Nose is extremely smooth and inviting. Lots of malty notes. Raisin, nuts, bread, some apple, and a nice layer of toffee. Wow - this is just an incredible amount of smell coming from this one. Taste is exceptional. A nice malty kick up front. Candy, raisins, plums, apricots, toffee, bread, molasses, and a bit of earthy grass. Mouthfeel is light with medium carbonation. The aftertaste is relatively sweet. Overall, this is a fantastic Marzen, and one that I will most definitely buy again. Cheers!

Review #1,000! Prairie Pirate Paradise Imperial Stout, 13% ABV. Pours black with a ring of brown bubbles, typical for a Prairie stout. Nose is rum, coconut, and chocolate. Taste follows, plus coffee, with moderate bitterness. Decent mouthfeel, if slightly under-carbonated, overall world-class.

I have a thing for Rum Barrel-aged beers, so this slightly edges out BBA Paradise for my favorite Prairie beer.

Crystal clear, dark copper body; fast rising carbonation; respectably thick and foamy bone colored head. Fine malt aroma; seems like a bit of crystal and some kind of roasted malt; a bit of nut-iike quality. Excellent toasted grain and roasted nut flavor; temperate hop bitterness to offset the malt sweetness; mild caramel. Medium body; gentle sweetness with some dry offset with the bitterness.

A very clean and criyesp Oktoberfest, very straightforward, and nicely balancing the slightly darker malt grains with a distinct yet appropriate hop bitterness. This is a classic beer style done right. No pretension, no gimmicks, and it shines as a result.

A warm front range day, but a good day. Got some good handloading done plus more brass prep. In a couple of hours, Mrs. BeerGoot and I are going to a mini-neighborhood get together for supper. Since the dudes are all beer hounds, and the women prepare some great food, and it's good company all around, I'm anticipating a fine time.

-from today’s Sand City pick-up. Secret Spot - Ditch Plains, a DIPA, is named for a favored family beach and surf venue.

This yellow-orange can pour holds a deep haze and a 1 cm white foam cap.
The aroma is rich with oranges, strawberries and pineapple.
The flavor is rich with pineapple and lime notes.
The mouthfeel is smooth and the finish is dry. Flavors and hop bitterness persist. This is a very tasty brew

Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass canned on 8/22/2020. Pours a very attractive hazy orange yellow, with a missive 2 finger sticky white head that leaves big thick streaks of lace with excellent retention. 4.5

Smell is peach, cantaloupe, mango, honey, apricot, and some hints of grapefruit rind. 4

Taste is much bigger and better cantaloupe, honey, peach, apricot, and a little bit of grapefruit bitterness in the well balanced finish. 4.5

Mouthfeel is big, soft gentle carbonation, a tad sticky but not dry, and at 8.5% really goes down easy. 4.5

Overall another excellent beer from these guys, the nose was just ok, but everything else was excellent. 4.25

Wanted to try this it being on cask. Not bad but nothing special. The 4.2 percent ABV made it more of a session type ale in my opinion. Could pick up some hop flavor but not a great deal. Put some more umph in it and it could be a winner

Jägermeister Arrogant Bastard Ale, an American Strong Ale brewed with herbs and spices by American brewery Stone Brewing (8.5% ABV).

Pours a cloudy, deep amber to ruby red coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of caramel malt and strong herbal elements, with licorice, fennel, anise and juniper most noticeable.

Taste is a decent balance of caramel malt, strong herbal notes of licorice, fennel, anise, juniper and lighter white pepper, cinnamon and clove, with the fennel and anise standing out particularly here, as well as just a hint of citrus hops and pine coming through. Finishes bittersweet, with a medium bitterness and some fennel, anise and licorice lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a medium/rich body and medium carbonation.

I was really looking forward to this and while I did enjoy it, it left me just a tad disappointed, which may be due to this being around 12 months old now though, which has surely upset the balance a little. First off, I think that this tastes nothing like Jägermeister, which is a good thing in my book. Sure, there are quite strong notes of licorice, fennel and anise at work here, but this is thankfully nowhere near as sweet, boozy or driven by licorice as it could have been, although the fennel and anise notes are particularly distinct still.

While there is a decent bitterness left, countering the sweetness nicely, I would have hoped for a bit more nuanced herbal character and better balance, with some more distinct, bitter, resinous and citrus hops, which may well be due to the age of this though. Nevertheless it is a very interesting, unique brew that was probably a lot better at its prime and is certainly not going to be for everyone, with the herbal presence, especially fennel, just being too strong here and kinda drowning out everything else.

I saw a wombat in the Hunter Valley in Australia a number of years ago. It was a remote spot on a dirt road and I asked my Australian host what odd animal might we encounter out in the dark wilds. He said you might see the occasional wombat, and he stops and says, "aye, there's a wombat over by the fence"! Sure enough. It looked like a claymation mash-up of a large racoon and a small bear.

This magnificent, world-class beer is courtesy of that beer nerd extraordinaire @Roy_Hobbs and NBS BIF #12 as part of a really cool LIF he conducted like the beer maestro he is.

The generosity of the NBS BIF participants is truly staggering. What a wonderful group.

A beautiful hazy golden orange color, the head is nearly perfect - a pearl white color, really dense and foamy, it literally creates a lace wall down the glass. Never seen anything like it.

The nose is dank tropical aromas, especially grapefruit, pineapple, mango - and also some pine. Wow. I didn’t see that coming.

The grapefruit is prominent on the taste, and it has a candied element that is absolutely magnificent. There’s also pineapple, mango, and the aforementioned pine. Perfectly balanced, with no hint whatsoever of the 8% ABV, this is an example of a brewery confident in their prowess with hops.

The mouthfeel is really dry and substantial, as expected. What a treat this beer is. If you look in the “IPA Hall Of Fame,” this beer is one of the original inductees, IMHO.

    NBW #2
    Foley Brothers Triple Maiden
Pours a hazy gold with a 3 finger head that settles to a foamy cap.
Aroma is pine, grapefruit and lemon with some grassy notes as well.
Taste follows with with damp grassy pine and grapefruit peel, a nice subtle caramel sweetness.
Feel is still medium and at 10% there is a slight alcohol presence. The finish is quite drier than you might expect with not a real bit of residual sweetness. Its easier to drink than alot of high abv IPAs Ive had. A very well crafted beer that keeps a fair balance with its overabundance of hop additions.
Glad I bought the 4pk. One of the better triples Ive had of late. Also one of the tops Ive had from Foley who IMHO can throw a wrench into their beers every now and then. Cheers![IMG]

2018 Bruery PB and Jelly Thursday for me this Saturday. Taste; 4..5 and Overall: 4.25. Happy Labor Day weekend all and be safe
    [IMG]

    2018 vintage

Appearance: Very dark brown with medium-sized dark beige head, which dissipated very quickly. The head had hints of a purple hue before it disappeared Noticeable legs on this one. A typical looking BT variant.

Smell: Bourbon and brown sugar aromas hit me right up front followed by some raisin aromas and maybe a slight hint of boysenberries (unsure if it's due to the fact I know they were added). The alcohol presence is fairly tame which is nice in light of the high ABV.

Taste: The Bourbon and brown sugar notes from the nose carry over to the taste, but in the palate I definitely pick up some berry notes along with mild raisin notes. I also pick up some mild vanilla and moderate coffee/roast malts notes. This particular variant is sweet like other Black Tuesday (BT) variants but the beer dries out nicely with a touch of berry notes in the finish.

Mouth-feel: Medium bodied with a modest level of carbonation. not the thickest of Imperial stouts but not overly thin. Blame that on the alcohol possibly. Restrained alcohol presence for the listed ABV.

Overall: A nice BT variant, The berries made a nice addition but the peanut flour is something I couldn't pick up, but that could be due to how long I held on to the bottle.

This pours anthracite black with a dense, foamy dark tan head. Gorgeous beer. The nose is milk chocolate and some char, and stone fruit. Lots of stone fruit.

The milk chocolate is forward on the taste, and the char is present, but the stone fruit comes along mid-taste and lingers through the end. I love stone fruit flavors in big stouts, but if you don’t, this will be a bit of a challenge.

The mouthfeel is a little softer than I’d prefer to see in an imperial stout, but overall this is an excellent beer, especially if you like stone fruit in a big stout.

I've been banished the basement to watch the Flyers game, but given that it's game 7, that's probably best for everybody. There will likely be some yelling at the TV either way. Switching things up from a Farmhouse ale earlier to this can of Maple Nipple from Lawson's Finest Liquids. Interesting beer, as I can't recall having many (if any) beers with maple syrup before.

Light brown, dare I say amber color with a finger of toffee colored head. Smell is caramel, malty with clear notes of maple syrup. On the tongue, I seem to bounce back and forth between tasting the maple and regular old malty sweetness. Slightly bitter at points, but subtly. Medium feel. Not my favorite style, but an interesting beer.
