Back with my final one for tonight. This one comes courtesy of @aoampm. Maui Brewing Co. - 15 Year Anniversary Blend. Its called a barrel aged imperial ale, but the bottle notes that its a blend of "Imperial Porter, Imperial Stout, Barleywine, and Imperial Brown aged for 12 months in Bourbon, Cognac, Brandy, and Rum barrels".

Pours a dark brown color, opaque and pretty shiny. Thin finger and a half velvety brown head dissipates a bit, but ultimately lingers on top of the beer. The aroma on this beer is absolutely stunning. Rich notes of dark stone fruits, dark bread, rum, raisins, brown sugar, oak, some light Belgian yeast notes all molding together to produce a rich decadent aroma. Taste follows the nose with dark bread, Belgian yeast, brown sugar, dark fruits, rum, oak - there is so much going on here resulting in an incredibly complex profile. Again though - decadent is the word that comes to mind. The profile seems to be dominated by the barleywine with the rum, cognac, brandy and bourbon barrels all really playing a prominent role. The stout with its roasted malts and cocoa are more subdued. There is a decent amount of warmth to this one, but it doesn't have a discernible alcohol flavor - its really just a general warming sensation. Which leads to the overall feel on this one. Its a bit lighter on the mouthfeel, which makes it shockingly easy to drink for such a hefty beer. Bright carbonation, with a pretty dry feel to it lingering into the finish.

This is one of those incredible beers that is just a true pleasure to savor. Thank you so much Alex!

This is my first truly new beer for NBW.

2020 Revolution Brewing - Mixed Berry Ryeway (AKA Ryeway with Raspberries, Blackberries, boysenberries, and crannberries)

This can was removed from a fridge that carries fairly constant temps around 36 - 40 degrees.

The can was opened and poured into a small snifter.

Let me start off by saying...I don't know how to rate this beer to style. It's a rye ale, which is effectively a barleywine-style ale, but done with rye. So, that's uncommon. Now, let's throw a mess of berries into it. There's no style for that.

    Appearance: Score: 5.0

First impressions: This beer poured with effectively no carbonation, although not quite flat. No immediate aromas noticed during the pour. Pour was much brighter red/mixed berry (yea, that's a color) than anticipated.

Smell: The nose is not overpowering; in fact, it's rather subdued. It's strong on the raspberry - crannberry - "cough medicine Mixed berry" front. Took me awhile to place the last descriptor, but it's seemingly spot on for daytime theraflu liquid. It even has that slight alcohol-burn as you smell it that is a mix of almost fake-smelling berries. In this case, it's not, obviously. Score: 4.0

Taste: There's both at once a lot going on and not much at all going on. There are a lot of flavors, but they all mesh together well. Normally that's a good thing, but here it's giving off that medicinal vibe. I will say that this was much less noticeable when it was cold; but at room temp, it's super noticeable. When cold, it gave off more of that raspberry tart (new glarus) flavor, and less of the crannbery-tart flavor that I am getting when warm. I have to search pretty hard for the base beer. I couldn't even tell you that there was any barrel in this. Comparative to a BC-style fruit beer, this would be scored lower; but I think this score is probably more "fair" for "the style." But *shrug*. Score: 4.0

Mouthfeel: Despite all the berries, this has a pretty typical mouthfeel for the base. The only difference is that it's perhaps a little more thin, and perhaps the lack of carbonation. Score: 4.5

Overall, I'm pretty neutral on this beer. In general, I don't love (or, to some degree even like) fruit in beer. They just always seem to go more tart than I want. Both cherries and berries seem to give me that medicinal taste, which can be a turnoff. I don't dislike this, I'm just not sure that I like it. About 6 ounces is probably perfect (especially if I could drink it while it is completely cold), but 12 ounces is a little much. Score: 4.25

    Review Score: 4.16

Have a good Sunday. I got some kind of weird stomach bug when I got sushi and crag rangoon for dinner yesterday. Lost my appetite after I took one bite of the rangoon, and then I started dry heaving and sweating. I ended up sleeping until 1130PM after that, and I ate half the sushi and rangoon when I woke up. Was amazing. It was a platter with 6 hand rolls of 5 different variety. A lot of food there, I will finish it later today. I feel fine now, so not sure what all that business was about. I also revamped my Okcupid profile from the dead. I had good luck on that site about 8 years ago. Plus they have the best personality matching system on the market.

Sun King Osiris pale ale. Excellent APA. Lasting rocky head retention/thick foamy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big red grapefruit, orange, peach, pineapple, apricot, melon, wood, onion, mint, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, white bread, toast, spicy rye, and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness; and rye spiciness on the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, balanced creamy/bready/grainy, and sticky/resinous/rindy mouthfeel that is great. Light-moderate increasing resin dryness; no hop astringency. Fairly crisp/refreshing to drink, minimal warming 5.6%. Great Summit, Nugget, Cascade profile. Very vibrant, dank, and earthy hops; with a nice clean bready malt backbone. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp resin dryness. Really big fan. 4.03

[IMG] Branch & Blade out of Keene NH. TDH 8% NEDIPA with Citra, Sultana, Columbus, and Simcoe. Pours a very hazy orange with a finger plus sticky white head that leaves loads of bubbly lace as it slowly settles. 4.75

Smell is ripe melon, papaya, mango, apricot, and grapefruit rind. 4.25

Taste follows cantaloupe, papaya, mango, peach, apricot, and a little grapefruit bitterness on the back end. Really huge flavor and well balanced. 4.5

Mouthfeel is big, rather soft gentle carbonation, a tad sticky never dry, and it may drink bigger than 8% but extremely approachable. 4.5

Overall this brewery just keeps getting better and better. This is a really excellent NEDIPA and highly recommend. 4.5

811th Edition of NBS, Weekend #7 rolls along with this new pour for me on a cold and rainy September morning in Chicago.

On & On & Beyond by Foreign Exchange, a new brewery brewing out of Church Street's facilities in a nearby western suburb of Chicago, Itasca, ILL.

Facts: $4.75 16 oz single can purchase at Beer on the Wall on July 24th, warm on the selves until purchase, refrigerated since. No date on can, but canned shortly before the July 7th distribution date listed on their instagram account. 7.5% ABV, no listed IBU, a DIPA brewed with Sabro, Enigma & Galaxy hops.

Appearance: Bright orange golden hazy pour, bright fluffy bubbly head lasts for several minutes before receding. 4.0

    Aroma:
Sabro cocunut aroma leads, peach, pineapple and citrus back well. Sweet but not overly. 3.75

    Taste:
Bitting sabro leads, bitterness pwning most sweetness attempting to emerge. Coconut, peach, pineapple. Balanced but taste somewhat muddled, bitterness the primary feature initially. However, sweetness and balance emerges as this warms several minutes later. 3.75

    Mouthfeel:
Creamy rich full DIPA, lightly dry, excellent bitter/sweet balance. ABV presence felt, easy drinking throughout, clean finish. 4.25

    Overall:
This is a well balanced DIPA, flavorful, bitter reigned at first, but sweetness emerged to provide an enjoyable taste and good experience. Cheers! 4.0

Made it through most of the posts yesterday, looking forward to your reviews throughout the rest of the weekend. @WunderLlama 's Very Green is the new beer for me I would most like to try so far, @UWDAWG 's Trappistes Rochefort 10 one of my Top 10 favorites.

    Good morning NBW
I'm home from another overnight shift and entering the first review on another Hoosier ale. Today's beer is Madame Brown Ale by Terre Haute Brewing Company
    [IMG]
    The review:
16oz undated can poured into a nonic pint glass at fridge temp 5.3% ABV. The beer pours opaque brownish amber in color with abundant & dense khaki head. The head recedes to 3/8" cap and leaves an impressive lacing. The aroma is mild with cocoa powder and caramel. The taste is tangy cocoa up front with the toasted malt backbone popping through mid-palate. The finish offers dark chocolate and medium hop bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium to thin bodied with average carbonation and a dry finish. Overall, good. This one seems to even out some as it warms, which is true to style (English Brown Ale per can label). Would drink again.

Cheers all and enjoy the new beer in your glass today!

$ 10.79 (Including discount and shipping)/16 oz can ($0.674/oz). From Craftshack, San Diego, CA. Received 8/31/20. Reviewed 9/6/20.
Bottom stamped “PKGD 05/18/20”. Stored at home at 42 degrees and served at 60 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
    Appearance – 3.5.
First pour – Pale amber (SRM 9), hazy.
Body – Deep brown (SRM 30), opaque. When held to direct light, translucent and deep reddish-brown.
Head – Large (Maximum seven cm, aggressive center pour), medium tan, high density with rocks, fizzy with short retention, diminishing to a two to three mm crown and several thin tiny islands.
Lacing – None, as expected at 15.4% ABV.
Aroma – 3.5 - Medicinal, no malt, no hops, no yeast. Weakens and dies.
Flavor – 4 – Starts slightly sweet and medicinal followed by a short-lived throated alcohol burn. Final flavor is weak licorice. No yeast, no malt, no hops, no ginger. No alcohol (15.4 % ABV, as marked on container) taste or aroma. No diacetyl or dimethylsulfide.
Palate – 4 – Medium, almost sticky, soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 4. The palate actually works well with the general medicinal flavor and aroma – I just don’t know what this claims to cure. The general impression I have is that the brewer was visiting an herbal medicine store and thought “I’ll bet this stuff would make a tasty barley wine”. And it does – unusual but tasty.
    Rating 3.85, rDev -8.8%.

Ryes ‘n Tides is a rye influenced pale ale from Sand City.
The tan colored can pour hosts a light 2 cm foam cap.
The aroma is of rye spice and an orange blossom notes.
The flavor is rye dominated, sharp, pleasant. Grapefruit is also present.
The body is relatively light. This is very good.

Good Sunday morning NBW/NBS (811). Thanks to our host this week. A postcard worthy weather holiday weekend here in WMass. Long checklist of tasks completed yesterday so today is only hiking another section of the New England trail.Goal is to complete by 11/1 and the extension to Monadnock by 12/1. oals and self reliance, wait thats todays offering.
This version is exclusively Czech Saaz. I cant say enough about tjhe slightly spicy bite from the hops.
    Do good

    Self Reliance: Czech Saaz

    4.19/5 rDev -1.6% | Average: 4.26
    look: 4 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4

Poured from the 375 ml bottle into the test glass.
A - Bumble bee yellow color, early pour has excellent clarity, final pour adds a thin cloud to the glass. Gently carbonated, the spheres are tiny and keep an archipelago on the surface.
S - Dusty earthy, white pepper, a kiss of cut hay, lemongrass, and a thin orange thread. The spicy aspect is a revelation. The thinnest of thread from oak, but not to be missed.
T - Sweet malt base, more citrus but rustic, a bit of lemon verbana, again the lovely white pepper spicy aspect. Ripe Bosc pear comes in as well.
M - Medium in body, soft on the palate, carbonation acts as carpet ushering waves of flavors to thier seats. Finish is delightfully dry. Linger has the lovely tension of citrus vs spice.
O - A delight in all catagories. The hops expression, the bottle conditioning softens the palate experience. There is no doubt the Hill Farmstead thumb print all over this. That said "gently" is the word that comes to mind as how the feel, flavors and aromatics are all expressed.

I took a couple days off from Beer Advocate to work with my grandson. He's staying with us for a while because he and his mother are not exactly hitting it off. We've had him for the past week and I've been able to get some of his schoolwork straightened out. As of yesterday, he's caught up on all his subjects and doesn't have to be reminded to do the work. He has even come out of his room on occasion and interacted with us!
Small victories, but worthy of a celebratory beer. This one is Oktober Fiesta from Steel Bender Brewyard, canned 9/5/20.
The beer poured an amber color with minimal to no head.
Mostly sweet malt aroma, a little toast.
    Caramel taste, some toast.
This beer went down really well. Will be buying more.

I'm not waiting as long today for my first post.

Angry Chair is best known for their pastry stouts, for which people lose their damn minds. However, they make some pretty tasty hazy IPAs, too. The Rake is an 8% ABV hazy IPA double dry hopped with Mosaic and Citra.

Wow, this is some morning juice! Soft and pillowy, but also way, way lighter than any IIPA should be - it's almost a little watery for my preferences, but drinkability is superb. No hop burn or astringency, very low bitterness, and minimal alcohol presence.

But what about the taste? Well, I'm not kidding about the morning juice. The nose is fairly herbal, bright, and green, with bare hints of tropical and citrus fruit poking their heads above water ... but once this liquid hits your palate, it's another story all together.

Tropical fruit leads the way, complemented by citrus, with tones of papaya, mango, pineapple, berries, melon, mandarin orange, lemon, and ruby red grapefruit.

It's ... it's good, OK? It's real good. I think the Creature Comforts Loopulus (review linked; 4.47 / +4.2%) is even better, but that's comparing two fantastic SE takes on imperial NE-style IPAs. I might prefer one over the other (the thicker mouthfeel on Loopulus takes it), but there are no losers here. Except my liver.

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/32409/283563/?ba=Roguer#review

After a long run of -rDevs, I seem to have found my sweet spot in beer selections, as this is seven straight at +rDev (10 of 12), counting the two beers I added to the database (technically 0.00 rDev, but both easily clearing the 4.0 mark). Personal preference is part of it; bias is probably part of it; but fantastic execution from the breweries involved is unquestionable (none of those rDevs even reach +5.0%, so the masses agree with me).

I'll be back later, no doubt. Cheers!

My New Beer this morning is Founders’ “Marvelroast”, an Imperial Golden Ale with coffee, vanilla, cocoa nibs and milk sugar. Sounds good to me - let’s go!

Bottled 6/21/20 and pulled from the store’s walk-in cooler, then to my dorm fridge/freezer at home. Poured at 52 degrees; deep gold with white flecks, a total snow globe; but for the floaties, excellent clarity otherwise very good cap retention; heavy ring; medium minus lacing; no legs. Strong coffee nose initially, followed by milk chocolate; vanilla asserts itself as liquid warms Taste is sweet chocolate milk; very little coffee and lots of vanilla candy; no hop bitterness or flavors; some caramel malt base underneath the sugary flavors. Creamy feel and tongue coating from the milk sugar addition; medium body, moderate minus carbonation; no warmth from 8% abv. Overall, tastes like an iced vanilla latte from Starbucks with an extra pump of chocolate syrup; despite the strong nose, very little coffee flavor; not a fan of floaties, unless it’s flaked coconut; I like sweet beers, and this beer works taste-wise; more coffee flavor would have elevated the whole, for me.
