Conehead is dubiously legendary for me. It holds the distinction of being the only beer that has ever broken in transit for me, be it in my luggage or in a box. Made my dirty laundry smell great when I came home from Boston...

3 New to me, 1-new-2-ba IPAs Happy September!
Voodoo Ranger Higher Plane| New Belgium | 8.5% | DIPA
    4.21/5 rDev 0%

    look: 4.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25
Added by Act 25. Hazy Imperial IPA bill. Cannot believe I'm the first to buy this best of Voodoo and also Zombie Dust at WFM. Hope this trend continues.
    a) Suitable hazed golden body with fluffy, lasting, lacing white head.
    s) Floral more than citric, tea-like, melon, chalky, balanced.
    t) Follows smell, very floral, more melon, melon green rind -
    f) Chalky yet fresh and juicy, interesting texture. ABV well hidden but I prefer less abv myself.
    o) The best of the Rangers.

    Zombie Dust | 3 Floyds| 6.2% | APA
    4.63/5 rDev 0%

    look: 4.75 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.75 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 5
Finally, the #1 in my favorite #1 style _ APA _ arrives reasonably priced in cans at WFM.
    a) A for appearance with a non-stop white blanketing head over a hazed copper apricot body.
    s) Floral, like you just came in from the garden, citrus blossoms more than flesh,
    t) Found taste bigger than aroma, ripe, juicy, round flavors of citrus, blossoms, flower store, brought home with a pungent, piney, hoppy, peppery finale that battles juicy sweet fruit vs cleansing pepper and pine.
    f) Semi-sweet smooth bitterness sprouting a crisp dry finish.
    o) Wins over the competition, bright and memorable, will return for many more 6's now that it's available in WFM.

    Sculpin - Aloha | Ballast Point | 7% | IPA
    4.17/5 rDev +6.1%

    look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25
I dont feel this is a bastardization of a classic. It works for me.
    a) Hazed, vibrant head, loads of lace.
    s) Gin, juniper, bright yeast, tropical backdrop.
    t) Juniper, gin couple with fruit salad of pineapple, mango and guava, then a peppery, lemony finish.
    f) slippery, mid peppery bitter, clean finish, tongue delight.
    o) Love the bright big peppery finish.

This will be the second time this week that a BA has given me the idea to pull a Dark Star from the fridge and pair it with lunch. And it just so happens that this lunch also includes some bacon and egg similar to your brunch.

Hawaiian fried rice, tossed into the pan after scrambling an egg and frying up applewood smoked bacon. Fresh mango thrown in for good measure at the end of the process.

    Mahalo @snaotheus for the inspiration.

Busting out of the gate with an aged vertical (the cellar is slowly being cleared). Today's beer is Founder's Imperial Stout - a beer I originally found a little too aggressive fresh back when I first started getting it. I don't think I even considered aging beers, really, until I joined BA in 2013, so the one you can't read is one of my oldest aged beers (12/2013) - with 2014 and 2015 being the other two:

First thing to be noted is that the head on the 2015 billowed much more, with what seemed a darker brown head, though the 2014 wasn't too far off. The 2013 never really got going - though it is the smallest glass and I might've poured a little less aggressively. I really only paid attention to that first (2013) pour, and it did seem like used motor oil going in to the Lost Rhino sampler glass.

The 2015 has bubbles that adhere to the inner glass wall, while the 2014 clings loosely for a few seconds with the 2013 lacing lasting a duration between the two.

The 2013 has a more charred malt nose than the 2014, which has more of a dark roast coffee vibe. The 2015 is somewhat between the two. The youngest seems the most bitter, and 2013 might have the most oxidation - only because I barely noticed it in that one.

The 2014 and 2015 have a nice, creamy feel with the 2015 seeming just a tad thicker. The 2013 is more oily - and seems a tad thinner than the others, but I'm not so sure it is. In rapid succession, the thickness is about the same, it's just how soft the liquid feels that is the difference.

The 2015 is smooth, with a creamed coffee opening, but it turns bitter - seemingly hop-driven more than by charred malt. There's a somewhat woody (pine) impression to the bitterness, though some char comes in late. The 2014 is more coffee-like throughout, including the associated bitterness. A charred malt backed by a hint of pine ending also features a mild licorice note. The 2013 is a pretty straightforward stout - roasted malt with a hint of char, a little less (and definitely less distinct) bitterness in back than the others.

So, overall there isn't a huge difference in these - if I drink them quickly without thought, feel is somewhat evident, then a hint of oxidation in the oldest. But by paying a little attention, there were some differences that made each unique. I think I'm slightly partial to the makeup of the 2014, then 2013, and 2015 still has (relatively) more of that hop bitterness that I found too aggressive before to place it just behind the others.

    Cheers, all!

Well, you won't get hate from me, especially for that particular brewer's version. If only they made it fresh in say, late September or October, I'd buy some into the holidays.

Is it lunch time in Idaho already? Damn COVID has my time all screwed up!!
