What about the reluctance of the population to actually get the vaccine once it is available?

Anti-vaxxers will be out in full force.

For sure but I think this is a bit different. There is definitely a spectrum when it comes to anti-vaccination. I wouldn't put people who refuse the polio vaccine in the same category as someone who refuses a vaccine that may have been in development for less than a year before it was released to the public. Especially because for younger people this may be less dangerous than the flu, and people in the normal range of the vaccine spectrum opt out of that vaccine all the time. Polio crippled and killed kids. That was an easy vaccine sell. This, not so much.

This is a good point. Polls, while not the be all end all, indicate about 50-60% of the population will be willing to take it. Especially those who are left leaning.

Even if that’s optimistic a certain percentage of the population has already had the virus. So that will help too.

All that being said, a vaccine won’t be a panacea. Antibodies may only provide immunity for 3-6 months. But recent research indicates that even if you get it again, it will be much less severe or you’ll even be asymptomatic. Covid likely isn’t going away permanently, instead it will just be another mild coronavirus.

This combined with an antiviral and we should be in good shape.

Huge caveat...much of the above is theoretical at this point.

Well, I have Friday off, and now I know what I’m doing.

I love a Rauch Helles. If you know me at all, I also love Oktoberfests.

And the Alt being canned for the first time...well damn, that’s the cherry on top.

I've got next Thursday off and I'm hoping all those beers last? I've never been to Notch but this feels like the right time.

I’ve spoken with many people that invest in the biotech sector and most have stated their reluctance to take the first batch of vaccines that hits. A lot of doubts about the quality of trials and QC of manufacturers.

I work in the BioPharm industry and this part...

"A lot of doubts about the quality of trials and QC of manufacturers."

    ...is false.

No one's cutting corners with QC here. This isn't Russia or China.

I wouldn't put any stock (ha, get it?) in what investors say. The stock market is volatile and many variables outside of quality control affect it.

Does that 100% mean nothing will go wrong? Of course not, you can never guarantee that.

Think I've said this before, but efficacy is more of a concern than safety.

You're much more knowledgeable on this than I, but the modern day biotech investor is either an MD or PhD that was in the industry and an expert in the science. It's not 28 year old Cornell lax bros reading Pfizer earnings. Just relaying what I've heard from experts in the field.

Mayo Clinic vaccine head is on Bloomberg right now talking about EUA vs. full licensure and the issues of manufacturing and distributing a rushed novel vaccine.

I really dig notch. Loved their Oktoberfest celebration, the spot is great and enjoy the beer.

    Plus, beers with Clevo (TYF)xxx

Definitely, that could be a factor. Phase I/II trials went well, but Phase III will test tens of thousands of people. Those have been underway for awhile though with relatively no hiccups (AstraZeneca's have made headlines).

Also bear in mind "complications" can be anything. Not necessarily vaccine related. But they have to report anything that shows up in trials.

    Interesting.

There's no doubt this will be the fastest vaccine to go to market. But we've also never had this much collaboration and effort put into one either.

My comment was more directed at quality control, no one is skimping on that part. If it's not safe, I imagine it will be because we don't have the luxury of a couple years of trials to see what symptoms may occur. As far as I know though vaccines in general are fairly safe, so there's that.

Distributing, possibly. I haven't read much about how the distribution chain for this will work. Regarding manufacturing, they're locked and loaded for this part as far as I know.

Keep in mind, I always leave open the possibility to be corrected on any of this, as this is simply my opinion based on the knowledge I have, and what I've read.

One thing I hang my hat on though is that I feel many have been bullish on vaccines since the beginning. And I've been more optimistic. Remember when this first started it seemed like AT BEST a vaccine would be here in two years? Now we're talking about some people (likely the elderly) possibly having one by the end of the year.

That lineup this week ... damn. Definitely not doable this weekend (why do weekends tend to just fill up?). Maybe I can sneak there on a weekday next week.

Anyone else really love their prices too? Where else is anyone getting world-class anything at $12.25 a four pack? That’s actually a serious question.

Alchemist leaps to mind (give or take a few cents). Or old school things like Sierra pale ale or German lagers.

Yeah I was going to say Heady Topper likely fits the bill here.

Also this time of year the German Oktoberfests are really cheap if I recall correctly.
