Are you one of those guys who has a complete cellar of 100+ beers?

If you buy a 4/6 pack of beer to you drink them before buying more beer? Or do you buy 4 four packs and drink one of each and switch around?

Or do you grab a case of seltzer and kill that because calonries?

I guess my question is: Do you drink (require?) beer because it makes like more tolerable or is beer just some hobby to you.

I understand this thread may be deleted and I also understand that everyone here doesn't just drink because booze tastes good.

tl;dr - Do you have a giant collection of beer, do you generally drink the beer you have before buying more? I know some people buy bottles they never intend on drinking simply as collectibles.

Just curious where everyone stands here

I never have more than 8-12 cans/bottles for routine drinking plus 2-4 bottles of barrel aged stouts that I can save for special occasions. Typically there are at least 3-4 different brands in that mix of routine drinking beers. When I say "routine", I mean an average of maybe 3-4 bottles a WEEK plus a couple bottles a week of nonalcohol beers for times when I get tired of flavored waters. I am omnivorous with respect to alcohol; beer, wine, bourbon, scotch, good rum, all good.
I have MANY more wine bottles than beer bottles mainly because of the beverage preferences of wife and extended family.

If I acquire hard to find beer I tend to save it to share with others. However with Covid I am drinking more at home by myself and not saving beer as long as I usually would.I drink a variety of different beers in a session except for beers like pilsners or oktoberfests when I drink 4 or so of the same beer in a row. The BA stouts I will hang onto and share.

I can't resist buying beers that I see. I have 120 or so beers in the fridge, only a handful of which are for cellaring and some which are perilously close to best before dates. I tell myself I won't buy anymore but then walk past a bottleshop and think I'll just have a look and not buy anything...

Let's just say I had good intentions when I started hoarding collecting wine and beer and leave it at that. My executor can deal with it someday.

I don't consider beer a hobby, I just drink it because I enjoy it.

I would rather drink 1 good beer then to suck down multiple production type beers. I usually average 4 or 5 a week now a days because I’m trying to lose weight.
What I find happens to my stash is, I will do a brewery run and load up, then drink it down. When I start getting low I’ll buy, maybe 2 or 3 four packs and the stuff I have in my fridge gets pushed back. I end up with 4 or 5 really good beers that become refrigerated turds.

I drink only NA beers to avoid one of the questions you are asking. I like the greatest variety possible, and always searching for new. I buy 1-2 of the same beer at a time, the "haul" being up to 24, and like to have 20-40 to choose from in the fridge.

I over buy. My brain says keep as little on hand as you need to keep it fresh. But u can't resist getting beers ive read about or sound good to me. And I'm a bit of a ticker which doesn't help. But I'm getting better. Supply isn't as large as years past

I started drinking more NA beers for those days when alcohol would conflict with medication. I used BA ratings to select ones to try and found that to be a good resource, although some of the best are not routinely available around here. Current favorites: Athletic Brewing Run Wild IPA and Golden Road Mango Cart NA. Which ones do you like?

Your executor can be left out of this scenario - IT'S PARTY TIME!! (Masks required, of course, and whatever group size is permissable by your governor.)

I used to have a 'cellar' that maxed out at 150 or so bottles, but I realized that I wasn't enjoying the questionable benefits of the collection. It's down to around 25 now and I don't add much to it anymore to keep it fairly fresh to have a choice beer with Sunday dinners or other nice occasions.

I try to keep a variety of everyday beers on hand, and probably have about 12 available which I rotate and drink to whatever fits my mood, giving hoppy beers the priority. I bought three new-to-me six packs this week and tried one on three successive nights. Now the rest are in my regular rotation.

I find myself buying single cans/bottles of new-to-me beers from sellers that will offer than because the idea of investing $14-19 on a four pack of something and then discovering I don't like much, or is not as good as something that I already drink does not appeal to me. Are you buying based on BA ratings/reviews, or just buying on intuition and descriptions on cans? How often do you think "nope...not buying this again"?

I thought I’d go through the backlog with everything that has been happening in the world. Didn’t happen. With local bars selling off their lambic, almost every brewery shipping beer (for free as long as you spend $75, $100, or $125...) I have more now that ever before. I’m also trading more which tends to mean shipping more for the trades.

I like drinking beer. I also like to collect it and see it in the fridge and cellar. My biggest problem is that I tend to drink one beer a day/5-6 days a week. On the rare occasion I’ll have 2 or 3 in a day. I’m buying double to triple that per week most weeks....

I'm sort of both - or all.
I have a pretty extensive cellar - at one point I counted a few hundred bottles - it's gone up and down since. And that's not including homebrew, some of which is pretty good with time.
On the other hand, I do keep a couple cases of "daily drinker" type stuff upstairs, in a cool pantry, until it's time for the fridge. (I don't have a dedicated beer fridge, and my allotted space in the regular one is limited.)
I do usually drink just one or 2 a night - sometimes none, occasionally more. |I am trying to lose a few more pounds, and the empty calories of beer doesn't help.
    |Also, I've gotten far more into the lower-test styles lately, Pils, Helles, etc.
Not that I don't still like the big stouts, double / triple IPAs and such, but I appreciate the subtlety of the others ones more.

I don’t typically like to drink the same beer twice in a row, so I usually keep some variety around If I can. I suppose that would be considered overbuying, but my budget is always I consideration and I usually wait until I’m about out before buying more. There are exceptions of course though.

I mainly buy on brewery reputation (Bell's and Short's) and description of the beer. I don't think I have ever used BA reviews to make a decision. If I'm traveling I listen to hype in the regional forums before I read reviews.

Ninety-nine percent of the time I like what I buy. A couple weeks ago I got fooled on a beer from Short's, a trusted brewery, but my wife likes that beer (Da Vine, a beer & wine mixture of some sort) so it's not a total loss.

I've found that it's best to buy for the weekend ahead, and make the purchase as close to the weekend as possible. Otherwise there's a good chance that thoughts about other beers will cross one's mind, perhaps in the form of a theme involving a style, or a brewery. I might (make that very likely) happen to read an article about a brewery, or the history of a style, or some other random beer related piece or news article that inspires me to buy certain beers. I have found that to be the case at least. I let that inspiration guide the purchases on a week by week basis.
