Alright, saved the wet hopped brews for the Niners/Jets game. If the Niners start 0-2 I may be switching up to rye whiskey to 'nurse my wounds'.

North Park's Strata Rocket is up. Wet hopped WCIPA at 7.4%. Beer is both new to me and BA. Can dated All The Freshies 09/16/20 into an imperial nonic pint glass.

L: Pours bright golden, slight chill haze, with 1+ finger of medium-density white head with good retention and left sticky windshield ringed lacing.

S: Amazing nose, floral and tropical fruit, fresh pineapple hiding underneath. Subtle dankness shows as it warms.

T: Follows the nose very well, more prominence of the dank aspects. Finishes with moderate bitterness, which pleasantly and subtly lingers on the palate while slowly drying.

F: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, slick on the tongue and the swallow.

O: I'd heard good things about North Park's Strata brews, and must admit this one was outstanding for my palate and preferences. I think this may be the best CA-based wet hop beer that I've personally had to date. So much dimension but with soft edges where everything meshes so well. I'm wishing I'd ordered more than 1 4pk.

    Happy New Beer Sunday 813!!!

Final Festbier for the weekend, perhaps for the season unless Hofbrau remains on tap the next visit to The Garage. Pulling out one from a great local brewer of old school styles, Dovetail.

    Dovetail Festbier

    Tale of the tape:
16 oz, canned 7/17/20 poured into mug. 6.7% ABV, can notes: "Malty, autumn colored, party-making."

Appearance: Darker bronze pour, generous off-white bubbly head, lingers for a few minutes before leaving soapy lacing in its wake. Clear with no carbonation. 4.0

    Aroma:
Faint aroma, caramel malt, light bread, lemon and tea backing. 3.25

    Taste:
Much bolder taste, caramel, fresh sweet raisin bread out of the oven, honey, lemongrass and tea. Edges sweet, but not too sweet. Bold and pleasant. 4.75

    Mouthfeel:
Persistent fizzy carbonation holds, creamy full body, dry and slightly bitter, easy crisp clean finish. 4.25

    Overall:
Very good Festbier, fresh and full of varied flavor, pleasant and rewarding. Another fine offering by Dovetail. 4.25

Hope you can enjoy a flavorful pour to close out the weekend, and I can finish reading the thread later tonight.

    Cheers!

Sans Pardon Pure Oak, a Russian Imperial Stout aged in virgin oak barrels by Belgian brewery De Dochter van de Korenaar (11% ABV).

Pours a deep, dark brown coloration with a small, frothy head. Smells of bready, roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and lighter dark fruit accents of raisin and fig, with just a hint of earthy oak as well.

Taste is a great balance of bready, roasted, slightly caramelly malt and quite rich dark chocolate and coffee notes, as well as lighter dark and hints of red fruit, with notes of raisin, fig and red currants and a subtle but distinct, rather earthy oak presence with hints of vanilla and tannic tartness. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and oak lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a rich body and medium carbonation.

A very nice Imperial Stout with some rather rich chocolate and coffee notes, a subtle yet distinct barrel presence and accents of dark and red fruit that has got a great roasted, dry and bitter character to it that is balanced nicely by some sweeter accents and a very light tartness. Overall a rather rich and complex, yet very well-balanced brew that is a joy to drink.

New Province Mindful Hive Honey Rye Golden Ale, 5.7% ABV, 3.54 overall

Pours an effervescent honey color with a thumb of cream colored head. Average head retention & lacing

    S: Some grassy notes

T: Sweet breadyness, a touch of rye pepper & dryness up front. Dryness, a little grassyness & just little honey malt sweetness as this warms. Finishes with Honey Crisp Apple, dryness & grassyness, plus a little honey malt

MF: Medium body, dialed down carbonation

Drinks alright, decent take on the style, but not one I's buy again

[IMG] The first beer of the today after suffering the bullshit of dealing with Direct Tv. From the current BIF.

So from Fiddlehead Brewing from the Green State of Vt, Second Fiddle DIPA at 8.2 abv. Sweet pour into my Haw River glass I bought .99 cents at a consignment shop. Great head, sweet fruit, some pine, holds it all together, a bit hazy but not a haze bro kinda beer, certainly not a sweetish OJ bomb, the bitterness here is very firm. Holds that bitter very well thru the finish, it finishes very strong. If you like big DIPAs that are maybe a bit of the WC style this beer is your jam. A simply great beer that everyone can enjoy and appreciate. I’d guess 4.5 - 4.6,I couldn’t find any info on hop combos , other than it’s heavily dry hopped.

The Brewing Projekt Galactic Conquest NEIPA, 7.1% ABV. Pours hazy orange with a four-finger off-white head that left foamy lacing. Nose is sweet tropical fruit and light lemon. Taste is tropical fruit, piney, light sweetness, moderate bitterness. Excellent smooth mouthfeel, overall excellent.

Sitting here not watching the Packers, because the damn Vikings are on at the same time and network. We get all but two of the Packer games usually, and typically we go to a sports bar to watch those - but given the infection spike here, we opted to just follow it online while we watch the Vikings lose.

    Neumarkter Lammsbräu Urstoff

Pours a clear orange with a medium sized, stable head atop.

Smells of soft wheat, crushed grains and a light layer of sweet toffee.

Has a refreshing, light body with a well nuanced, lively carbonation. This creates an easy drinking, well balanced Lager.

Tastes of crackers, earth covered toffee and wet grass among whole grain bread rind and a note of toffee. Turns a tad maltier then with more toffee cutting through the slightly metallic turning, effervescent carbonation, with some entangled, accentuating noble hops. Finishes even more rustic, with a well pronounced sweetness, while the hops are almost completely washed away by a copper accentuated carbonation.

This is great until it looses a bit of its balance during the finish, due to an overly present malt backbone, numbing the hops, which also suffer from a more powerful metallic carbonation. This is still quite nice with a rusticness worth highlighting.

Mano Negra Limited Edition, a Belgian Stout by Belgian brewery Alvinne (10% ABV).

Pours a deep, dark brown coloration with a reddish hue when held up to the light, with a small, fluffy head. Smells of slightly roasted, caramel malt, rich milk chocolate and some toffee and coffee, as well as hints of estery spice.

Taste is a good balance of slightly roasted, caramel malt and rich toffee and milk chocolate notes, as well as rather distinct estery spice notes, reminiscent of clove, nutmeg and cinnamon. Finishes bittersweet, with a medium sweetness and some toffee, chocolate and spice lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a medium/rich body and light/medium carbonation.

While I never had the regular Mano Negra, I have a feeling that I would prefer it to this, which is just a bit too sweet and not quite bitter enough for me personally, although it does have some rather nice chocolate and toffee notes, with lighter coffee, but what really stands out here is the strong estery spice, which is an aspect that I rather enjoy as it balances out the sweetness nicely and lends a somewhat unique and interesting touch to this. I guess it's also why they call this a "Belgian Stout".

2nd beer watching crappy Birds football.

Trillium Comm Ave, 8.2 abv and Citra is the star here. Again from the Current BIF.

This is a haze bro beer, super hazy, very fruity, oranges. Completely turbid equal to any heavy stout as far as light. I absolutely love that in these kind of beers, and nose is my weakness, here it’s strong. Reasonable bitterness, slightly astringent, but not overwhelming, but on the finish there’s a bit of acid burn. Wheat completely changes the mouthfeel, very soft, very creamy. Have to say the addition of oat flakes or wheat I think make for an interesting beer, it certainly supports drinkability. Very nice beer, I’d guess 4.25 or so. Well worth buying imo.

Today my new beer is Second Dinner from Maine Beer Company. It's been over a year since I have had Dinner. I have a fond but fuzzy memory of it. Re-reading my review it sounds similar to what I am getting from Second. Lets see how my review on this works out.
The last part of the verbiage about this beer on the label says "Drink it the day you buy it". Well that ship has sailed. Talk about an expiration date. Maybe next time I should just drink the wort!

Poured from a 0.5 liter bottle dated 8/31/20 to a Nonic at approx 45F.
I had to bump up my pour aggressiveness to get a decent head. That said, it does look good in the glass. There is a mildly hazy gold body below a nice white head that fades fast. However the lacing is beautiful.
The aroma is lemony, grassy, and is similar to smelling a hop flower.
Taste follows the nose but the alcohol is noticeable. Interestingly Dinner has a slightly higher ABV.
Mouthfeel is the best quality of this beer. Medium viscosity, slightly oily and and a perfect carbonation level.
Overall- While this is a really good beer, the name implies to me that it should be equal or better than its predecessor. Maybe not, I guess if you eat a second dinner you're really just snacking. In that case, good job MBC.

My Dinner review was 4.74. Wow. I have a Dinner in the fridge. Guess I am obligated to drink that right now.

Ebony blackness to the body; thick, khaki colored head, dense and creamy. Sweet and chocolatey smell; molasses; cherries, figs and raisins; faint coffee note. Rich and flavorful tastes; milk chocolate; cocoa and marshmallow sweetness; maraschino cherries; figs and dates; boozy; bourbon. Heavy, velvety mouthfeel; chewy and oily; alcohol heat simmering below the residual sugar body.

It is easy to understand why this beer gets world-class ratings. It exudes deep and complex sensory sensations. This would definitely be a fine beer to cellar (despite the label's exhortation to drink fresh and not age) and, indeed, would make for an extra deep winter fireside drink. But it also satisfies immensely during some late summer heat, too. A magnificent barrel-aged barleywine!
    ----------
No NFL for me this season. Now, football movies like 'Semi-Tough' merit watching. And Sunday (really, any day) makes for a fine time to try a new beer. Old movies and new beer. A near-perfect combination. Perhaps not a perfect 10, but a perfect 9...

I've given up all professional sports.

I used to watch sports for entertainment. I don't need, don't want, and resent having politics at every turn these days.

And, the NFL suddenly deciding it is OK to protest before games is the height of hypocritical cynicism.

Good Sunday afternoon, New Beer Sippers and commentators. It's certainly autumnal this afternoon as I'm wearing a fleece jacket over a flannel shirt as I sip a Stout. Ten Days Til Dark is one of Rushing Duck's 8th Anniversary releases. It's a BIG (15.8%) Imperial Milk Stout brewed with wheat, rye, and lactose. Like most Rushing Duck Stouts, it's complex with boozy chocolate and vanilla sweetness balanced by dry grains that reminds me of the Swedish crispbread that my Mom served when I was young. It's appropriate for sipping after dinner. Rushing Duck really nails this type of high octane stout. Here's my full review:

    4.43/5 rDev 0%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

Reviewed two days after release. Poured from 22 oz. bottle into a Rushing Duck 8th Anniversary commemorative glass. It pours a very dark walnut - nearly black - with a large, frothy, light khaki-colored head and thick coating of lacing. Its fragrant nose features roasted malt, rye, molasses, vanilla cream, and subtle char. The taste opens sweet and boozy with cocoa and vanilla, balanced by dry rye and wheat that remind me of Swedish crispbread. There is a a hint of spicy bitterness at the finish. This Stout is thick and creamy with moderate carbonation. And there's no escaping the 15.8% ABV that warms throughout the pour. Ten Days Til Dark is just the type of big Stout that Rushing Duck excels in brewing. It's big and bold and flavorful. It's definitely a dessert sipper. It would pair well with vanilla ice cream.

I hope that everyone is also enjoying their new beer(s) this weekend. I look forward to reading your reviews. Cheers, NBW!

    Antidoot L‘Obscur - Amarone Barrel

Pours a hazelnut brown color with some ember hints glowing through, together with a medium sized, spongy, mohagony colored head.

Smells of fermented red wine grapes, bakers chocolate, fresh plowed earth and strong notes of leather. This develops a nutty smell as well, going well together with green apple skin and lighter balsamic vinegar among calming, old oak.

Drinks soft and refreshing with a long lasting, thirst quenching tartness, pointing out the beer‘s lighter body very well.

Drinks truly rejuvenating from first sip, introducing a sparkly, mineralic effervescence to the palate, which brings up bakers chocolate, wild berries and lighter honey among a prominent tartness. Turns a tad more chocolaty then with wooden oak joining in, which leaves some space on the tongue for dried garden herbs and tomato pith being able to cut through. The beer finishes with a light acetic peak, immediately getting wrapped up into blood oranges, leather and matured, fermented grape skins among a lighter dryness, creating a balanced and pleasant tart aftertaste.

Incredible complex and well balanced Flemish Red with just the right amount of tartness, finding a great counterpart in sweet and dry flavors. This drinks easy, while providing an awesome depth, revealing new flavor nuances with each sip.
