Hello, we visited the Cantillon brewery in 2004 and bought bottle of Cantillon Gueuze 100 Lambic that has a 2001 stamp on the cork. I also have a Cantillon tasting glass. After recently visiting a Belgium bar in Southampton UK, the Manager suggested we sell the bottle as we had found it after it had been stored in our attic for the last 16 years. I am enquiring as to what price to ask for the bottle and how a transaction would be conducted between the UK and the US? We are lucky if beer lasts 16 hours in our house as we live in beer producing County, so 16 years is truly something to celebrate. Any pointers would gratefully received. many thanks, Jason
Jason- I don’t have any tips or tricks for you here...Hell, I’d tell you to crack it open and see how a few years have treated that beautiful bottle. Curious how the label held up in an attic like that though, can you post a pic or two of the bottle?
This is the UK,we rarely do hot, mostly rain. It would have been in various temperatures but was in a box surrounded by other stuff so not open to the ambient atmosphere.
Hi Kevin. The label and the bottle are pretty much as we bought them, I would go as far to say the label has barely discoloured and is still quite vivid. The bottle top has some discolouration on the top. The glass has a few scratches as this was in a cupboard and not wrapped. I am trying to upload some pictures but failing miserably on my mobile so will try again later.
No worries... Like I said, just curious. For reference, I use postimage to post pictures here on BA... It's super easy and can be done from your phone. 1. Go to postimages.org 2. Click the Choose Images option just below where it says Post Your Images Here 3. Select the photo from your camera roll 4. Click Add- You will see a message saying Upload Complete towards the top of the page once it's completed 5. Scroll to the third option from the bottom of the page, Hotlink for Forums. Copy this address 6. Paste this address in the "link" option here on BA and you're all set Cheers!
This is not a particularly rare bottle nor would it be an overly expensive bottle in the world of lambic even if the storage conditions were ideal. I would hope that you tell whoever you might eventually offer this to about its storage history.
