    Weissbier? C'mon.

On my first trip to Germany (and the Oktoberfest) we flew Lufthansa -- I think they had Warsteiner and Beck's.

I really don't know about the airlines, but Duvel on those closed cabin train compartments was a charm. Through France and Germany I thought as a 20 year old that I was in heaven. Decades ago!

I think it’s still Warsteiner if I recall from my last trip a couple years ago.

It is. It's been exclusively Warsteiner for a while...which is honestly fine by me. I like the stuff, even if it's probably the least dry/hoppy pils in the whole country. The last couple Lufthansa flights I've been on have had cans dated from a week prior.

I really like Lufthansa. Swiss Air is really nice too.

I had to travel frequently for work a couple years ago in a short period of time. I went to Germany, but had connections so I traveled on all different international flights.

Then the following week I had to go to St. Louis via Southwest. That was a miserable flight compared to the others. No amenities, free drinks, it's crammed, and you're lucky if you get a tiny bag of pretzels.

Didn't help that my first flight was business class on Lufthansa (basically first class). The Lufthansa lounge with free buffet food and drinks is a nice touch before your flight. As are the fully reclining seats into a bed on the plane.

@AlcahueteJ -- you keep perpetuating your own stereotype!

I must say, free unlimited draft beer at the Lufthansa lounge at Boston Logan is a nice plus - I always try to fly out through there when I go to Austria.

I went to Germany when I was in high school as part of a service trip. I was 16 at the time, and we flew Lufthansa, so as soon as we get up over the Atlantic Ocean the stewardess offered my Dad and I a beer. Horrified, my dad goes, "Ma'am he's only 16!" She goes, "Yes, I know. We're on a German flight and the drinking age is 16 ..." Poor me ... had I not had him there I would have had my first german beer at 16 ...

Let alone you were in Germany for how long and didn't have a beer? I don't think you were trying hard enough.:wink:

DO you know how hard it is to not only have a chaperone but have that chaperone be your dad?!? :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I was a kid too -- no matter what anyone thinks.

Believe me -- if I got to go to Germany at 16 (no matter who was with me) I'd have been in BIG trouble.

Not to mention I was 16 during the Cold War, so who knows what I could have gotten into? :grinning:

If it helps I flew coach on Southwest to St. Louis and was at the back of the plane crammed in between two people, one of which was sick.

That pretty much describes every flight I've ever taken.

But I can add the 12 year-old who decided to scream "WE'RE All GONNA DIE!!" When landing in Orlando.

I was in Leipzig when I went, so during the Cold War, that really would have been interesting ...

When I was there a friend's mother and 16 year old brother came to visit. As they were going out to dinner I told the brother to order a beer to go with his food.
The mother gave me a stern look and said he was too young to drink. I told her 16 year olds could have beer in Germany. She was horrified and let out with a “that's just wrong!”. Apparently she was also upset about beer being sold in Mcdonald's :scream:

Imagine if she'd seen the grandmother I watched dole out .25 litersful of Dunkel at the Munich HB to her 5 and 8 year-old grandkids. :astonished:

Stigmatizing beer is what makes it "taboo" and leads to abuse.

When my son was 10 my parents took him on a trip to Germany and stopped off at HB. He split this with my mother. :+1:
