I may not be a physician but my job is pretty dang good.. I wasn’t trying to be rude when I said what I said but my point does still stand. You prioritizing your job (rightfully so) over a beer release is still an example of my point. Sorry that they keep doing these on Tuesday’s in your case!

can’t a nurse get the beer for you? Lol

lol. Aren’t we mighty defensive of our “grown up” job. I didn’t say you were pissed or bitching. I didn’t reference you at all actually. This thread and social media in general is full of people bitching about every SP release for one reason or another. Most of the time specifically for how fast they sell out. So yes his post has a very valid point. Anyone that wanted this beer bad enough was able to get it.

lol at “looking at a CPU or phone screen for an hour” too. This was a simple “hears notification and goes to sp link saved in phone. Buys bottles and puts phone back in pocket” situation. Not a refreshing every second deal.

As with any internet discussion somethings can be misinterpreted. I don’t doubt you have a good job as there are a lot out there each having their own perks. Congrats on the win today and enjoy.

Anyone else buying a case of blueberry flanders? Maybe one of my favorite SP sours. For someone who loves Belgian beer and SP, this is the perfect beer.

my plan is to wait until they force me to buy it in a package so I can complain about it as much as possible

The most ridiculous part of this last leg of the thread is that no one was complaining. One person said they didn’t have a chance to buy it because of work. People say that after every release.

A lot of projecting of own feelings on to others lately.

Slight change of topic but wanted to report back something that I hope Side Project will eventually become, given enough time.

Went out to the west coast and stopped at Russian River a couple times. First time to grab bottles, second time to drink beer and eat.

It took me (literally, no exaggeration) 30 seconds to grab 6 bottles of Pliny and 6 bottles of Beatification. I know, you're thinking, what's the big deal, who cares? Well, Beatification was one of the first OG craft beer 'whalez' back in the day. To trade for a 'Beat' or find someone local to pick it up when it was released was something that was killer way back when. Cracked one out there (brought 5 back) and it's as good as I remembered. (I know this sounds crazy - it's not 'rar' anymore but somehow it is still an absolutely fantastic beer!)

What I'm trying to say is, there will come a day, hopefully in the not too distant future, where we will all look back on this 'selling out in X seconds' sort of thing and think just how crazy it was and how lucky we have it. There will (hopefully) come a day when we will all be able to walk in to SP and get whatever we want (within reason of course) in 30 seconds to go if we so desired. Until that day, remember, it's just beer - we don't actually own the stuff inside, we just borrow it temporarily when we drink it.

The day is coming quicker than some of us realize. Because you used to have to trade for BdP and Raspe even. Those are up in the store still and have been for quite some time.

Honest question for the group. This is going to sound like a complaint, but it’s not...genuine curiosity. Does anyone know why brewers make so many of the lower demand, base beers like Grisette vs higher volumes of high demand items like stouts and barleywines? Are the latter harder to make? Lower profit margin? Something else?

I ask because Side Project bundles these lower demand items with the highly sought after bottles, and Perennial does something similar with SdC in that half of their bottles in the membership are lower demand items. Seems like the only way to quickly move this inventory is to bundle with the stouts/barleywines, but I was just wondering why they make so much of those lower demand items to begin with. Anyone know?

    cheers.

I think part of it is because of the format of the vessel. A puncheon can hold a lot more liquid than a barrel. So, since SP is all barrel aged beer, this would make logical sense to me that they have a lot of base sour beer from puncheons, hence, more beer of that type.

I think colt ninja may have a point in one regard, but on the other hand, Bottle Logic has made a ton of barrel aged stout more accessible, and now the hype behind that has diminished despite much of it still being top tier to at least quite stellar IMO.

Also, on the front end, raw material and production time are both heavier on a stout, whereas it's less taxing and time consuming to make their saison or other bases. On the back end, the aging can take a lot of time and space for both general categories, but correct me if I'm wrong, it seems like SP ages most of their stouts for much longer than they do most of their saisons/sours.

Bottle conditioning times seem longer for non-stouts, though I am not sure how much of a gap this bridges. Bottle conditioning surely takes up more space than barrels I would think(?), further bridging this gap.

There’s also the factor that despite the hype, SP isn’t a large brewery.

That’s irrelevant, No matter the size, the discussion is how/why the breakdown is what it is. If they were 10x larger, and the proportions were the same, the question would still be the same.

It’s irrelevant, except when Bottle Logic is brought up as an example for upping stout production. They can handle it because they’re much larger. Stouts usually take longer in the tank, so SP can’t afford to have stouts taking up all of their limited space 24/7/365.

Is Bottle Logic larger though? I know their barrel aging space is quite expansive but I don't know how many barrels their tank volume can handle...

And since this conversation started with Russian River, I'm not sure how much larger they are, if at all.

Most very hyped breweries who have managed to remain very highly regarded over decades are still pretty small relative even to other craft breweries who aren't as hyped.
