I'm one of those oddballs who will not let his picture be taken, so I cannot post an actual image of me. But! My friend Katie is an artist, and she was doing a series of portraits of folks in the Bellingham beer scene (how I hate the phrase "scene"!), with the idea of turning into a deck of cards. Here's her interpretation of me:


It's pretty accurate, given the artistic license. She works from photos, but, I told her she had to do the foundation work live. It was at the end of a long work day for me, I was a couple beers in when we started, and I cracked her up by doing my impression of Bob Dylan singing Tom Petty's "I won't back down".

Somehow, through the beers, tears, and laughter, she managed to make me look good.

If you click the link to her page, and then click on "brewdeck", there's her interpretations of lots of Bham beer folks. Pretty much all industry folks. The late, great Jim Parker and I were to be the "Jokers" in the deck, which was grossly unfair to Jim. He worked in the industry for decades, and was one of those folks whose name the average beer nerd doesn't know. But, he was a writer, brewer, publican, sales rep, force of nature. Gave a lot of folks their first shots in the industry, and you've heard of a lot of those folks.

I'm honored that Katie chose to include me with the people who are on that list. I, truly, am not worthy.
