Outer Range -- Forest For The Trees

Soft and clear golden body; very small carbonation bubbles gently rising; very thick and fluffy white head. Pine resin and tropical fruit notes on the nose; floral; mild dankness. Musk melon and honey flavors; slight black pepper presence; excellently balanced hop bitterness presence; a touch of cracker; faint note of alcohol. Heavy body; smooth yet sticky on the palate; begins with a sweet feel yet ends with a semi-dryness.

What a pleasant surprise when one expects just another hazy IPA of sorts only to see right off that what we have here, is a rather pleasant west coast styled DIPA. Yes, the appearance is the first sign, but better still is the smell. Fresh pine and tropical fruit elements instead of old, stale citrus pith. And the taste! Well, it's clean and well-balanced between the malt base and hops used. Outer Range created a winner here. Now, will this particular beer make future appearances? One can hope so...

Obviously I've been on here for awhile but I was lucky enough to finally get a bottle of Wooden Hell a few weeks ago and opened it last night with the neighbor while we watched TNF outside. It did not disappoint. Three years in the bottle really mellowed this out and the beer lived up to it's old money hype. Cheers

    Me, too.

The artificial left knee from 2017, the 'erector set' metal work in my upper left arm (from a very nasty 2003 bicycle accident - bone sticking out of my arm, 8 1/2 hours of initial surgery, two broken plates discovered in 2016 - but I can still do push-ups! - and one of my favorite games - spot the broken plates -x-ray below), and general early/mid-60s aches and pains - but, hell, I feel good...

I pretty much went fully retired last December. Military retirement since '04, social security starting last year, respectable financial decisions Sweet Deb and I have made over the past decades...

The sad thing is, being a former alter boy, Boy Scout, and generally all-around nice guy, I find myself being called back periodically this past year to help out my former boss and his daughter at the bird seed store when they need retail help. Retail sales, primarily...

It's my burden to bear with being personable (!) and engaging plus knowledgeable about birding, bird feeding, as well as statuary and water features...but for a periodic day of "working" and getting a nice compensation for my "efforts', it does help with keeping my beer supply well-stocked...:stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry about what was certainly a painful accident but nice work from the surgeon with this osteosyntesis!

I’m nowhere close to retire, but because of past fractures and accidents have sometimes the feeling of having the body of a 80 year old, only with a much (possibly) positive, optimistic soul.
