Physical disabilities are hard to ignore. But I feel that mindset can override many things.

For the record, I'm no fan of pain, let alone discomfort. But maintaining range of motion and flexibility as well as strength for as long as one can, will pay positive dividends in the long run. I hated my knee replacement rehab, but five weeks out, my USAF Academy physical therapist told me that I was where it takes normal people 12 weeks to reach. They didn't need to see me anymore!

One has to work through the discomfort (with medical advice) to regain some (if not all) when rehabilitating through injuries and old age related infirmities...

I still walk, bicycle, and nearly religiously do old kung-fu stretching and range-of-motion exercises on a daily basis. And once the fitness centers open up without need of masking up, I'll be back to 2-4 times a week of weight training for my arm and hour-long sessions with stationary bicycle and elliptical machine training through the winter.

It's not just rehabilitating old joint injuries. It's primarily keeping those beer calories in check!

Well said! Yes, as you were military, and like many things whether one is a soldier (regardless of the rank) or a civilian and while no one actually love pain, mental strength trumps physical strength anyday.

I still occasionally take “light” painkillers, like paracetamol but really make sure to take them when I’m off beer (yeah, rarely happens).

No way to get high on tramadol or other opiates when boozing. I know better.

I’ve been impressed by my last blood test result as recent as this summer. Nothing wrong, no diabetes, cholesterol, transaminase (liver) are all good.

Knock on wood. I can live and deal with joint pain, but have to take care of myself the best I can. Good health first.

    Yes.

I'll add my two cents regarding opioids...

They are needed at times, and as I stated earlier, I'm no fan of pain or discomfort. One thing I personally am proud of is that my use of opioids has been minimal with my arm and knee situation. In fact, still have many leftover dosages from those times. Never re-filled the initial prescriptions. I struggle (in one respect) to dispose of them or to hang on to them for later (undetermined) uses.

One thing I always mention to doctors (half-jokingly) is that beer is my drug of choice. It's true. Aspirin is right there, too, as a general pain reliever. I seldom use it. Beer, well that really is more of a pseudo-addiction and social lubricant. Still, moderation is the key. And that has taken me nearly five decades to 'sort of' master...:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Georgetown's Fresh Hop Johnny Utah is not as mind-blowing as I remember from my first sip years ago, but it is still a damn good beer.
