Interesting sports weekend, with MLB “season” wrapping up, and the Stanley Cup could be raised tonight. It’s been an interesting enough Cup Final to keep our household engaged in the series even though we no longer have a dog in the fight. And I’m calling a Braves-White Sox match up in the World Series. No dog in that fight either, but it’s fun to go with teams that haven’t been there in awhile yet still have a legitimate shot.

Whatever your game is (NBA, NFL, CFB, Premier League, etc), I hope all y’all have a chance to enjoy a game this weekend.

I’ve been enjoying Stone IPA quite often recently but haven’t given it airtime on WBAYDN until now.

Super fresh Fatheads HopStalker - canned only a few days ago - sooooo good!

 

I put in a few hours at the office this morning so I’m rewarding myself with a stop at Untied Brewing. This is Turkey Town, Untied’s Marzen. Unlike a lot of the local Oktoberfests, this one isn’t overly sweet. It has a nice balance of caramel, earthy nuts, and bitterness at the finish. Cheers!

Willing to offer a guess as to whether they were already pulled or actually sold out??


I've got a few new ones yesterday, going to do a purely "which do I prefer" competition today with them and remaining beers from previous purchases. Starting with the out-of-area offerings. I sorta hope the new purchase "wins" as the old one is my last.


Sierra Nevada's is lighter, as many have noticed this season - lighter head as well. Schilling Beer's Konstantin (Austrian-styled Märzen) has a more resilient head and some lacing. SN Oktoberfest might be just a little more clear, even if adjusting for color.



Fruity/floral, light bread w/marmalade, a bit of light spice in back for SN. Within a week, my palate is noticing a little more fruit and a little less spice. Little more toasty and earthy aspect to Schilling's offering, which is also a little drier.

I sorta wish there had a skosh more sweetness. I wish there was a less floral aspect to the SN. In this sitting, neither is fighting to get to the next round. Even though my hand is pretty much forced given supply, I'll try to argue that Konstantin's look nudges it into the next round of battle.
