Thanks guys. My experience with that beer (or their other beers) might have been completely idiosyncratic. Or at least that's how I always assume things are.

    You'd think so, wouldn't you?

But, not being from hop country, I'm not wading into that discussion.

After I made my post I tried to look more into the beer and found an article with that story explaining it. At first when seeing on the importers site that it had brett I thought to myself 'that's why it has a 5 year exp date', and I thought it was odd because I had checked out the beer before and never noticed it had brett in it. It must just be the amount of hops they use that hold up and preserve the beer well. The yeast could be a little Belgian style, I'm not sure exactly what their Fermentis yeast consists of, since it seems to be a brand name for yeast and not a specific type of yeast if I saw correctly.

    Here's the article: https://www.belgiansmaak.com/xx-bitter-brouwerij-de-ranke/

When I found out about that, I really wished that I could have tried some De Ranke beers from that era... but at least I absolutely love what they put out since the switch.

Looks like I have some catching up to do on this thread. Bike Rack Brewings' Oktober Fest, 5.75% ABV; 3.71 Overall

Pours an effervescent & chill hazed honey color with 3+ fingers of pearl colored head. Above average lacing & average head retention

S: Grassy with a little breadyness

T: Follows the nose, a touch of caramel as well, plus dryness & pears up front. Toastyness & green appleskins as this warms. Finishes with sweet malt, green appleskins & dryness

    MF: Medium body, moderate carbonation

A decent stab at the style, drinkable enough, kind of a little off style

Ozark Beer Co.'s Bourbon Barrel Quad, 13% ABV, I liked the draft version a little more. 3.96 Overall

Pours a very effervescent hazel with one finger of fast falling tan head. No lacing or head retention

    S: Figs & a little raisin

T: Follows the nose, some barrel dryness & just a kiss of Bourbon. Some candi sugar as this warms, along with figs & brown sugar & Bourbon notes& just a little juicy fruit. Finishes with leafy hops, barrel dryness, Bourbon bite & figs

MF: Low carbonation, medium body, that thins just a tad as this warms

For the most part good, body & carbonation were not as good as the draft version

I have a new beer in hand advocates, feels good as it’s NBW..!

I could purchase this beer in my local beer store, for about 4€ just this morning.

I poured it into a Guinness Pint leaving a two inches white head fading fast. 7,2% ABV.

It’s an orange and very opaque looking brew.

On the nose, orange, apricot, mango, lemon and peach which makes for a nice “tropical” mix to it.

Taste following the nose, the aforementioned fruits are predominant, this is an easy drinking NEIPA, with a slightly bitter finish.

Mouthfeel is a medium-bodied with a good carbonation, and pretty creamy.

Overall: This is excellent! Outstanding take on the hazy IPA from Oskar Blues, off the handful of NEIPA/Hazy beers I’ve had, I believe that this one is more balanced, less “juicy” and has a more bitter finish. Definitely worthy, and I’d buy again if given the chance.

[IMG] Poured into a 16 oz Snulip glass canned on 9/4/2020. Pours a hazy yellow orange with a 2 finger sticky white head, that leaves a finger sticky white head, with thin webs of lace and excellent retention. 4.5

Smell coconut, pineapple, hints of garlic, passionfruit, and apricot. 4.25

Taste follows coconut, pineapple, passionfruit, again a little garlic, and apricot really well balanced. 4.25

Mouthfeel is bigger than medium, not dry or sticky, soft gentle carbonation, and at 6.18% it drinks more like 7% but really easy going down. 4.75

Overall this is a very tasty and memorable NEIPA from Sloop. Cheers all. 4.25

Good day BAS! Back again with a NBS entry to NBW:

Zumbar (Chocolate Coffee RIS) from New English Brewing. $ 7.49(Including shipping)/12 oz can ($ 0.624/oz). From Craftshack, San Diego, CA. Received 9/21/20. Reviewed 9/27/20.
Undated can. Stored at home at 42 degrees and served at 60 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 63 degrees.
    Appearance – 4.5.
First pour – Deep amber (SRM 15), clear.
Body – Ruby brown (SRM 24), opaque. When held to direct light, ruby at edges where the light penetrates.
Head – Large (Maximum 5.7 cm, aggressive center pour), laser tan, medium density with a few large rocks, average retention, diminishing to a three mm crown and a thick island/partial cap. A large quantity of lacing remains on the glass as the head retracts.
Lacing – Good. In addition to the wall-hanging remains from the head retraction, a split band of extremely tiny bubbles with narrow columns connecting across the split develops as the beer level drops.
Aroma – 4.5 – Coffee! After it breathes, a hint of chocolates wafts by. No hops, no malt, no yeast.
Flavor – 4.5 – Begins with coffee followed by some char and some bitter chocolate. No hops, no yeast. No alcohol (9.3 % ABV, as marked on container) taste or aroma, but a gentle gastric warming occurs. No diacetyl or dimethylsulfide. Ends slightly bitter which could just as easily be assigned to coffee as to hops.
    Palate – 4 – Full-bodied, slightly creamy, soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 4 (Minus 0.25 point for undated can.) This is a VERY easy RIS to drink – flavorful and with a well-disguised alcohol level, two or three cups cans for breakfast is definitely a possibility.
    Rating 4.35, rDev +5.8%.

That's a 12.6% average NBW ABV. You now officially have no excuse for not joining us on the whisk[e]y threads on occasion. All those high ABV beers, it's like you're @Greywulfken or something!

What a beautiful early fall morning out there, and it's time for a beautiful beer. This beer is thanks to the amazing generosity of @TheGent

Morning Mocha from Kane Brewing - 9.2% ABV - 2020 release.

Holy cow, this is really a perfect morning beer. The creamy flavor from the lactose. The coffee and chocolate really work in harmony to create a tasty treat.

    4.44/5 rDev +0.5%
    look: 4.5 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

Pours a nice dark brown. 2 finger tan head. The head retention is amazing and the foam clings to the glass as it dissipates.
The nose is creamy, lactose aroma. Mixed in with that are hints of coffee and chocolate.
Taste - Lactose is the main flavor here, and is throughout the beer. The coffee hits on the backside, as does a nice hint of chocolate. These flavors work well together, and they really compliment each other well.
This is a creamy feeling beer. Nice and thick. The carbonation also adds a bit of a nice mouthfeel.
This is one hell of a solid and delicious beer.

There will be more today, but right now I'm going to savor this beer.

Actually .... I hate almost all whiskey. :frowning2:

I want to like it, and I have a few samplers at home. I keep some bourbon, whiskey, and scotch on hand for guests (as though I ever have guests lol), but I just don't really enjoy it myself.

Smell ripe melon, mandarin, pine, apricot, and grapefruit rind. 3.5

Taste is a little bolder honeydew, mandarin, pine, apricot, and some grapefruit balanced but not a ton of flavor. 3.75

Mouthfeel is above medium, plenty of like, maybe a tad dry, and at 7.8% drinks small, but easy going down. 3.75

Overall this is solid, but I wouldn’t seek it out. 3.75
