Alright late night NBS - Lets keep the theme rolling for today - another beer from @beertunes! Next up is Boundary Bay scotch ale.

This one pours a crystal clear dark chestnut color. Thin tan head dissipates weather quickly leaving just a thin layer of foam on top of the beer. Aroma has notes of toffee, biscuit malt, some floral hops and some raisin notes.

Taste follows the nose with notes of biscuit malts, toffee, some light rain notes and again, a slight floral hop character on the back end, although it does have a bit more of a piney note to it in the flavor profile. Just a hint of spicy yeast note comes through especially as it warms. Even though the hops are here and certainly playing a big role in the profile, it still retains the lovely maltiness of the Scotch ales. Feel is medium bodied, super smooth, almost buttery. Bright, fizzy carbonation.

Overall its a really solid scotch ale. I was in the mood for a rich malty beer this evening and this hit the spot.

They get such a great spice and clove quality in their beers.

Long day.... so, a big beer.

This is Tsuyosa, a pastry stout from Brasserie du Bas Canada of Gatineau Quebec, with banana, macadamia nut, coconut, vanilla and lactose

BBC has made a name for themselves as the best makers of the pastry/dessert stout style in Canada. Releases sell out in seconds of late, even at 1/person. I’m lucky to have some generous trade partners that keep me in steady supply of these monsters. My NBS BIF target won’t be getting this one, but will benefit from my good fortune to be sure.

Pours a thick jet black with an over-abundance of carbonation. It took several careful pours, over several minutes, to arrive at the glass seen in the above photo. Head dissipates unevenly, leaving add-junk sediment on the sides of the glass.

Aroma is muted. Brown sugar. Roasted nuts. Milk chocolate. The banana headliner does not make itself known to the nose.

The nuts come through first in the tongue. Not obviously macadamia but though. A hint of a metallic note that is not off putting. Roasted grain. Just a hint of banana. No coconut to my taste.

Thick, full bodied. Tiny chunks of the add-junks in a couple of sips. Pleasant.

This is not the best BBC pastry stout I’ve had. In fact, I’d say it is the worst. Saying that, it is still quite nice. It falters in its over-carbonation and very limited banana presence. Reading other reviews, I’ve noticed many say similar things. Still, a very enjoyable beer.

Sneaking in one more after exercising the cattle dog. Kind of surprised not to see more contributions of this one given its distro footprint.

    Sierra Nevada's Dankful IPA, 7.4%.

Can dated 090320 into a tulip glass.

L: Vibrant copper with nearly 2 fingers of variable density white head with good retention and left mixed lacing.

S: Resinous dank and pine, underlying subtle floral attributes gain prominence as it warms.

T: Follows nose quite well, hints of breadiness. Finishes with moderate bitterness that lingers pleasantly on the palate.

F: Medium bodied with low-medium carbonation, silky on the tongue and swallow.

O: Drinks super smooth for a 7.4% IPA. Alcohol is very well integrated, though I'd love to see it closer to low 6s. It's an IPA that I can see buying a lot of in the Spring if Sierra were so inclined to make it a seasonal offering. But it will struggle to compete against the upper tier fresh hop brews right now for my preferences.

    BA score = 4.32, rDev = +4.3%

Alright, last one for the evening. This is Southern Delight from Coastal Empire Beer Co. courtesy of @Roguer.

Pours a lovely amber brown. Appears clear when held to the light. A good four finger off-white head builds then dissipates pretty quickly leaving no residual head. Aroma has interesting notes of grainy malts, a generic malty nuttiness with a touch of vanilla and not much else.

Taste has notes of grainy malts with some definite notes of toasted pecans and vanilla. It drinks more like a brown ale than an amber ale, although that may be partially because the nuttiness of the pecan is playing with my palate. The vanilla flavor is there, but its not really sweet. Some light hoppy notes are present on the back end. Feel is light, with a thinner body. Bright carbonation. Semi-dry on the finish.

    Really interesting beer.

Last new beer of the weekend (also last beer of the weekend) is Lustra from Dancing Gnome.

16oz can served in a big snifter. Dated 07/28/20. Gift from @mr-jj, I think.

Pours a hazy pale yellow with a big head and medium to high carbonation. Smell is green leaves, hop resin, grass, some citrus zest.

Taste is citrus zest, softened somewhat by something mild and sweet (a light grainy body, I think), lots of pith flavor.

Mouthfeel is dry and light. Overall, nice solid surprisingly light beer.

    Greetings, fellow NBWers.

Haven't had much to drink since Friday. My buddy Mark & I hit a few places on Friday, and so I felt no need to drink at all yesterday, or perhaps ever again.

Okay, that was an overstatement, but I'd definitely needed a day to filter out those beers.

Today, after a local SMaSH IPA that wasn't new to me, I drank this Seattle-brewed "Italian Pilsener" during the Seahawks' victory of the Cowboys.

My first from Lowercase. Pretty nice pils, one I'd happily grab a glass or two of, were I to encounter it on tap locally, but I didn't find it especially different than a normal pilsener, say, a German style one. I'm not sure I buy into the whole Italian Pilsener thing, and this isn't the beer that changes that for me.

Hopefully, next week I can report back with a local fresh hop beer. Thus far, I've only managed to have one from Fremont, this year's Centennial & Sabro variant of Field to Ferment. This must change.

Had one this week. I couldn’t hold of until the weekend to try it, was going to for the thread but it kept staring at me in the fridge. Good review, very much agree with you too. It’s a very good beer.

Sure I'll sneak in another one I suppose.

Austin Brothers Shooter Murkgavin. Awesome NEIPA. Great fluffy head retention/foamy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big mandarin orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, apricot, mango, honeydew melon, red apple, berries, coconut, cream, citrus peel/zest, mint, pine, wheat, white bread dough, light toast, and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Mild pine, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky, fairly sticky, and lightly resinous mouthfeel. Lightly increasing resin dryness, no hop astringency. Very soft, mild increasing warmth of 7.1%, minimal lingering hop burn. Great Sabro, Strata, Mosaic profile. Very vibrant, dank, earthy, and juicy hops; with a nice sized oat/malt backbone. Mild residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. Very impressive, about middle of the road on their NEIPAs. 4.1
