My biggest experiences with Italian Beefs were in Rochester NY, at a place called GT Rocks. I loved 'em! I'm not a veggie person, so I'd get just meat and cheese, and be happy for a day after.

Need to get one at the source sometime.

Now, this weird need Chicago has about covering a hot dog with a salad? GITDAFUQOUTTAHERE!

    More information needed here.

There is of course only one correct way to prepare and dress a hot dog. I’ve never had a hot dog prepared correctly outside of Montreal.

Just Google Chicago style hot dog. You may be intrigued.

Its got pickles, onions, relish, celery salts, tomatoes ... way too much.

Also, this Montreal dogs look turrible ... is that like a whole raw onion on each hotdog?? Rolls look good though.

It's a steamed dog with mustard, A pickle, onions, relish, tomatoes, celery salt, SPORT PEPPERS, on a poppy seed bun.

Which, after looking up Montreal style dogs, doesn't seem too much at all.

Forgot, because I take it for granted that all the good stands do it right -- the dog must be all-beef -- preferably Vienna Beef from Chicago.

I don't know how common they are elsewhere but in Georgia we have "slaw dogs" that look pretty much like that. They are covered in a big layer of slaw and popular condiments for them are chili and mustard. I've never felt the need to try one.

Sonic has a decent fast food version of the Chicago dog. I wasn't sure it would work when I first saw it but it is a delicious and wonderful mess of ingredients.

The key to a Montreal hot dog is that both the dog and bun are steamed. That photo presents an extreme example. The acceptable toppings can be combined in any way you choose: ketchup, yellow mustard, green relish, chopped onions and, most importantly, tangy vinaigrette (not creamy!) coleslaw.

The real key is the steamed bun. Warm, soft and almost, but not quite, soggy. Until poutine took off all over the province, you would get 3-4 of them (they are small) with fries cooked in lard.

Leave off the chili, just go with a quality beef frank (I like Hebrew National or Kunzler), yellow mustard & a good homemade cole slaw (store bought is usually chopped too much and too wet). Makes for a better summer dog than kraut.

Just put some light ketchup and a good scoop of raw onion on the dog, and you're good to go.

Don't know ketwurst (guessing you made that up), but I'm not a fan of Currywurst -- which is served with some weird, ketchup-like sauce in Germany. :stuck_out_tongue:

    Your loss.

You should take the dog out, and just have a salad sandwich.
