Not at all, our hotdogs here in Chicago don't need surgery catsup to drown out their flavor -- just a little enhancement from real condiments and fresh vegetables. Unlike Kiribati, I guess.

    Condiments are crutches.

If those dogs were so good, why bury them under layers of lotion and trash?

    Ketchup and onions aren't crutches?

I explained it to you, the condiments used on an all-beef Vienna dog are enhancing to the spicy flavor of the dog. It's not like an Oscar Meyer, mixed-meat, bland tube of balogna. All the goodies compliment all the flavors.

Truth be told, I can get away with brown mustard on my dogs, but every now and again I have to go all out with the traditional Chicago Dog.

And if you haven't really tried one, you can't argue good or bad -- unless, like George Carlin, it came to you in a dream that you don't like it.

I don't eat vegetables, so there's no way I'm ever eating one of those abominations. I put the onions on to add some crunch, and ketchup is American.

Plus, Zweigles are the only hot dogs worthy. Try a White Hot sometime.

Oh, man. I had the "France" hot dog for lunch once when the wife and I were in Paris a few years ago. It was...something.

Well, I've always seen the "Potato Dog" in NJ described as an "Italian Hot Dog", often served on a hard sub roll or even a pita (holds up better than an hot dog roll). And a deep fried hot dog (which the "Italian" above does include), a NJ specialty, is not necessarily dressed with those condiments.

(I was once served an "Italian Hot Dog" that came smothered in... spaghetti sauce. No, not every Italian dish includes tomato sauce - and that includes a "pizza burger". Yeah, that happened to me once, too :grimacing:)

I'm usually just a straight mustard (yellow or brown) guy, occasionally will go for a chili dog ("Michigan"? Really?), usually made at home (hot dog chili from a can) or, rarely, w/Sabrett's Onion in Sauce.

I go with the Boars Head All Beef Natural Casing. Used to get Sabrett's Natural Casing bought "loose" at an outlet, which closed and I moved away (not necessarily because of that) - they were different than the shrink-wrapped packs in the supermarkets - different number of dogs per pound, IIRC.

Oh, and it's gotta be on a Martin "Long" Potato Roll. (Also always have Martin's Sandwich Potato Rolls for burgers from the grill or w/Taylor Pork Roll & cheese).

That's a new one to me, but the weekly option of cheeseburger pizza was always an eagerly anticipated lunch for me in middle school

Yeah, thinking about them now, I don't know what the !@#$ they were - it sounds crazy to call something that didn't have tomato sauce and Mozzarella cheese on it a "pizza burger". (Nothing on the 'net that looks like what I remember).

These had some sort of "liquid center" - some gooey kinda clear greasy sauce loaded with Italian herbs. I probably haven't had one in 40 years (that last one w/sauce - in a bar that I was compted a glass of AB's Bare Knuckles Stout 'cause I did some work for the owner - scared me off).

I think they were commonly found on the menu of A&W and/or Stewart's Root Beer stands, the kind of places that had car hops serve you in your car (Flash Lights for Service) and hung a tray off the driver's side window. Big frosty mug o' root beer, dripping all onto your lap when you took a gulp. (They even sold root beer "growlers" to go!).

Any Jerseyians remember - and know what was in 'em - those sorts of pizza burgers?

We used to have "pizzaburgers" in middle and high school. Pizza sauce, cheese, and either ground beef or a couple slices of pepperoni on a burger bun. Pretty popular at the time.
