OK, so whatever you call it, I love the Black & Tan/Half & Half. Haven’t had one in several years, but had it on the brain today.

Sacrilege, but I have neither Guinness nor Harp at the moment.

So, I have a half bottle of Bell’s 35th Anniversary Stout and decide to pop open a Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Barleywine for an ultimate Black & Tan!

Verdict-don’t do it! The combo is no Black & Tan. Each beer is better on its own than combined. Live and learn!

    Slainte!

    Holy effing shit.

Kudos to you for trying and reporting on it! That's the kind of idea that would pop into my brain and I would reject out of either pure sanity or pure cowardice.

Victory used to do a "Silverback" at the brewery that was Golden Monkey and Storm King.

Mekong in RVA did the "Darth Vader" that was Bell's Hopslam and Expedition Stout.

Recently did a 2011 Founders Devil Dancer with a 2013 Founders Imperial Stout. Was fun/interesting but Brutal.

I think it's a great style and super tasty. I'd like to see it make a come back

Wouldn't it be better to call that a Black & Black? The visual appeal of the contrasting colors would be lost.

And I doubt one would float on the other, so it's just a blend.

I once made one with Hopslam and Black Note. I call it the Black Slam ($1 to Fred Sanford and "Champipple"). It was a murky mess, but it tasted pretty good.

But the "half & half" spoon (mine is a Guinness giveaway) is used to help the nitro Stout float on the Harp -- what purpose did it serve in your mix?

There's legends about afterparties at the Extreme Beer Fest of B&Ts made with Worldwide Stout and 120 Minute.

Never used it with a nitro stout. It works fine with non-nitro Guinness and Bass Ale. (It also works fine for a Harvey Wallbanger, but that's another program.) In the application pictured above, it apparently didn't do a damn thing. I'm not trying this particular combo again. No more $10 fails for me.

Not quite the same as a Black and Tan, but years back around this time of year I used to make black-o-lanterns with Sam Adam’s pumpkin ale and cream stout. Tempted to revisit if I could find SA cream stout anywhere:rolling_eyes:

I had one of these at the end of a long night in a bar in Hoboken that had both on draft (and it was on the house) - it tasted pretty good from what I can remember but man I regretted it the next morning.

Permit me to recommend a blended beer that my wife 'brands' as a Chocolate Pumpkin. Your 'favorite' Pumpkin Ale (Sam Adams I presume) and Young's Double Chocolate Stout.

Earlier today I purchased the Young's Double Chocolate Stout and hopefully in a few days a six-pack of Shipyard Pumpkin Ale (or maybe Sam's if I can't?).

    Cheers!

P.S. @jts211 @ESHBG Maybe Yuengling Hershey's Porter would be good too?

I think the secret with B and Ts is the density of the Guinness is absolutely perfect, or any other dry Irish Stout. If the stouts too heavy it might not float right. Just my opinion there, you need a clear clear line between the beers, and yiu have to drizzle the stout very slowly over a spoon.

"I don't know about you but when I think about a large scale beer geek event, I imagine a massive illicit and wanton afterparty," said no one ever.
