Cassian bottles for sale onsite are the 2018 vintage - at least that is the last date on the 4 pack I bought about a month ago from the brewery.

Is Central Waters doing crowlers or growler fills? I didn't see anything on their facebook page. I'm going to be in Amherst this weekend and was planning on checking out Central Waters but with the BG release its probably going to a bit more crowded than I want to deal with.

They have an updated tap list on their website (link) that should help.

    Per the CW website:

Due to a nationwide shortage of amber growlers, we are offering two crowlers for the price of a growler.

There is now an option to purchase two crowlers of the same beer for the price of a growler. (Two crowlers equal the volume of a growler. )
    • To get two crowlers for the price of a growler fill you must select the "Two Crowlers" option in the drop down menu.
    • Single crowlers or crowlers of differing brands are not discounted, they must be the same kind of beer to get the lower price.
    • For example, two HHG crowlers will be discounted to the price of a HHG growler fill. One crowler of HHG and one crowler of Rift will be full price.
    • We are not filling individuals growlers at this time.

Sweet, I definitely don't need anymore growlers if I can help it. Thanks!

Anyone else staying over in Stevens Point? We usually grab & drive back to the Cities but that tap list (if we can get a seat) has me semi-erect.

That was a relatively smooth pick-up. I arrived just after 10AM and maybe waited 15 mins or so. In and out quickly (with my allotment + proxy for one another person, and two CW 21 bottles) once I got to the dock.

The regular Black Gold bottle I opened yesterday was great. Compared to years past which I’ve had (going back to only 2016), the word that comes to mind with this one for me is ‘robust’. It seemed to have a bit more barrel, bit more aroma, taste and feel, which I’d describe as ‘medium’ for the style. Really happy to have the whole allotment and that it was 4 bottles worth of regular + Rye Black Gold. I wish format was 8X12oz bottles for reg Black Gold, but that’s a different topic.

Were they super gung-ho about masks, tables, and distancing with onsite consumption? When I went to pick up my Double Barrel a few weeks back they most definitely were not fucking around at all with the Covid safety stuff. One guy put on a big show of huffing and puffing back to his BigTruck and loudly rolling coal out of the parking lot when they wouldn't serve him and his girlfriend who were both maskless and the only tables available were in the rain (no standing under the awning). I'm glad the CW crew were standing their ground with that shit but it always makes for some interesting people-watching.

Also wondering what happened if anyone on this thread tried picking up a purchased Double Barrel allotment on Black Gold day.

Good on CW. I already really like this brewery. This makes me like them even more. Your state currently has the worst outbreak in the nation in an ongoing global pandemic where, to date, over a million people have died globally and quickly approaching a quarter million in our country alone. Put on a damn mask or STFU and go somewhere else that doesn't have basic self respect for their employees, customers, and the greater community at large.

EDIT: Forgive my rant. I'm tired of this shit.

Back to beer, anyone have insight into what Rye BG actually is? I can see that the original from years ago was a 3 year extended aged beast. I know this is a very beat dead horse, but IIRC, regular BG is a mix of vintages of some sort. Does a similar blending happen with Rye BG, or is it just one set of barrels? Inquiring minds want to know. Also, I looked up some photos and I dig the green and white labels. Can't wait to get mine allotment in hand!

I only went through drive through, but they were diligent there too. I had my window only slightly cracked, while wearing a mask in the car, just to hear me but they told me to close it all the way.

The place was probably 80% full from what I could tell while I was waiting in the car. Everyone had masks as they entered. I had never been up to CW but it looks like a great place. I’ve been very apprehensive about dining/drinking out of home due to circumstances, but I’ll definitely be coming back once things settle down a bit.

Amazingly smooth pickup. I arrived between 12:30PM & 1:00PM. One car in front of me. They wrote my name & pick up number on the windshield, scanned my Black Gold ticket, I drove in, they tossed the beer in the back, wiped the stuff off the windshield. Maybe two minutes.

Waited perhaps ten minutes for an outdoor barrel table. Tap list was astounding. Double Barrel Stout, Black Gold, Rye Black Gold, flagships, many of their Reserve series, a few pilot beers. Mask wearing seemed to be universal.

Kudos once again to CW. That crew is beautifully organized.

No kidding. My family and I camped at Lake Emily (10 min away from CW). Friday night when we were driving to Lake Emily and we were just 10 min away, we hit a deer while going 60 mph and completely totaled our van. It was scary but thankfully everyone was okay. Thing that bothered me though was the police and the two men who assisted towing our car were without mask. They were kind enough to drive us to the campsite, but again without mask while we were in the vehicle with them. Hugely disappointing. I’m a PA at a family clinic and now I need to notify the clinic director of a possible COVID exposure. I’m so frustrated with our state. CW on the other hand did wry well, keeping everyone safe.

Well, that's an unsettling experience all around. Glad everyone was okay in the end. Been some amazing camping weather over the last month or so.

I had the Brewer's Reserve Bourbon Barrel Vanilla Cherry Stout.

Suuuper thin, with almost no vanilla notes.

Decent enough cherry stout, but I'm glad I only got one.

I'm not a big fan of their BB Cherry Stout, so this one was an easy pass for me. Especially when I can still find Brandy BW locally.
