I had Bengali for the first time when I was in NYC in 2011, one year after I started reviewing beer. Of course, that was the previous recipe; they revamped it in 2014.

 

Which recipe do you prefer? the original or the 2014?

 

Kill the pain...Gmen just handed the lead over. Should have been a TD on the fake. Bullshit call.

 

Tonight's Beer Tasting Lineup is a good one:

1) Alaskan Fireweed Blonde, not much needs to be said other than this is a light and dry blonde made with local fireweek honey.
2) Surly's First Avenue, a fantastic blonde ale with honey and floral flavors
3) Breckenridge Brewery's Oktoberest, one of the best Marzen-style Oktoberfests of the year. Toasty, but with authentic German flavors.
4) Surly's Oktoberfest, a great and traditional festbier-style lager. Light and clean with earthy and German honey flavors.
5) Stone IPA, one of the west-coast giants. Terrorizing pine bitterness underneath the citrus flavors.
6) Sierra Nevada's Torpedo IPA, another west-coast giant with soapy and resinous pine among the caramel and orange flavors.

Have you had Breckenridge or Surly Oktoberfest this year and what did you think? Do you like Stone or Torpedo IPA better?

 

What the hell, already a few beers deep and I have the day off tomorrow. Let's get nuts.

 

Cigar City - Maduro Brown Ale

I'm not even going to bother taking a picture of this one. It is fine, reminds me more of a watered down stout than a Brown Ale. That taste is decent but the mouthfeel leaves something to be desired. It is a $2 can of beer what can I say... I'll give this guy a 3.75/5 when you factor in the price. This is marketed as a sessionable beer and by ABV it is but I don't know how many of these I would want to drink in a row.

2014, the original was all classic C hops as I recall. Centennial/Chinook etc.

Bosk - A Woman's Place is in the Brewery, a dry hopped Vienna lager. I like it. It's a little old, canned on 06/29/2020, and I think the hops have turned into basically just bitterness, which is not a bad match for the sweet/caramel/toffee/nuts I get from the rest of it.

Palate cleansing with O'Dub. I guess I don't have much to complain about.

 

Nice to get that first shower in 3 days, post surgery.
