    Having Maplewood’s Festbier right now.

It’s kind of a hybrid but definitely leans towards the Märzen style. I like it. It’s nice and easy-drinking, but maybe a bit heavy for a day-long party. It’s not super hoppy or sweet and there’s some nice bread notes but it got progressively more caramely as it warmed. Still, it’s a pretty nice local effort.

Annual Joetoberfest blind beer tasting was a bit smaller on the guest list this year but it happened in spite of COVID. The participants were 2nd Shift, 4 Hands Fest beer, The Kaiser by Avery Brewing, New Oberphalz, Civil Life, Great Lakes, Lake Front Brewery, and Revolution Brewing. My personal favorites were Civil Life, Revolution, and the Kaiser. For the group (8 total tasters) 1st place went to the Kaiser, 2nd place to Lakefront Brewery, and 3rd place to Civil Life.

Love Civil Life. STL’s equivalent to Dovetail.

While I love Dovetail, I'd take Civil Life over Dovetail.

Wife picked up a New Glarus variety pack (she probably got it for herself), but said she got it because she knew I wanted an Oktoberfest beer. I gotta say, Staghorn is exactly what I didn't know I wanted.
