Unrelated: Meier's Creek brewing opened in the end of August in Cazenovia, in what used to be Empire's Farm Brewing spot. It's an absolutely stunning facility, food looks very good and the beer seems dope too. Was headed out to the 'Cuse area for a family thing this weekend anyhow so for sure gonna check that out.

I may end up there this weekend. My buddy said it was very good.

Bellport Brewery in LI preparing for a fall open. Focus seems to be a very family-friendly environment which I think will do well to help them stand out in an increasingly crowded south shore scene.

Passion Brewing is a spot that'll be based in Hoosick Falls and slated to open sometime next year. Brewer is Will Gardner, who it says brewed at a 'popular Bennington brewpub' (which can only be Madison, who I like a lot) and is now setting out on his own. That's one to be on the lookout for.

Checked out Meier's Creek and Great Sacandaga last weekend.

Meier's Creek was very impressive. Space is massive and stunning, with inside seating, outside seating and a whole-ass beer garden right out front by the hop fields. I tried a blonde (kind of wedged between a hoppy American and Belgian version) that I really dug, also had a mango/blackberry sour which was terrific and thought the tangerine wheat was an easy crusher. They had a bigger menu inside but it was a huge wait for a table so I had to make due with what the beer garden had available. Looks like these guys are making a markedly better use of the space than Empire ever did.

Great Sacandaga was what I expected it'd be. The IPA was definitely a more bitter, old-school take (which I appreciate) and their Oktoberfest (marzen-style) was super enjoyable. Place was rustic and homey inside and they have a ton of outdoor space too. Not somewhere I'd go out of my way for necessarily but if you're going to Sacandaga Lake I would for sure stop in.

    Couple-a twos-threes nuggets:

    - Place called Craftpoint Brewing that's gonna be opening in Schenectady. Frog Alley has some on-site shipping containers integrated into their building that are gonna be used to house fledgling breweries and apparently Craftpoint is one of those brewers. Looks like they were planning on a summer open but Covid threw a wrench in that.

    - Lost Farmer Brewing coming to Mineola NY looks like sooner rather than later. IG shows an 80s vibe and a slant towards old school beers (kolsch, witbier, English brown) which is an interesting dichotomy but I'm into it.

    - Moriches Field Brewing looks close in, wait for it, Moriches NY. Got an aviation theme going on because there's some big aviation history in the area? I don't know.

    - Looks like good progress being made on The Warbler in Delmar. Nothing official but I'd be surprised if they weren't open by end of November.

    - Alternative Medicine Brewing is building in Mount Vernon. Based on pics I wouldn't plan on them opening this year but who knows. One to keep an eye on.

    - Finally, and this is a great shame given my proximity and how often I'm in the area but Upward Brewing apparently opened in Livingston Manor earlier this year and I didn't even notice. It's actually only a mile from Catskill and eight miles from Roscoe Beer Co. so that's enough stops for me to make the trip out there sometime this year.

Thought I had pretty much run out of daytripabble clusters from the Albany area but it appears I do actually have that and a couple others.

Not the kind of thing I usually post in here (mainly because it doesn't happen much) but Gael Brewing in Geneva is closing. I went once and did not dig the beers I had, but the owner's Facebook post about it was pretty gutting. Just saying "I failed" and that kind of thing, which is tough to see somebody say about a dream they had.

On the flipside: That is a great location with the ridiculous amount of summer wine country traffic, so I wouldn't be surprised to see another brewery buy the space or a new brewery to start there.

That Facebook post was sad to read. Having a passion for something doesn't always translate to being able to turn it into a business. I hope he comes out the other side OK.
But yeah, that space and location looks like it would be great for someone able to do great things.

I can go to a place with so-so beers if there's a good vibe to it....but Gael had zero vibe...and that was it's downfall, imo.

Hard agree. There was just really nothing redeeming about the place unless you were big on the kitschy Irish overload thing, which I am not. I do certainly hope the owner lands on his feet though.

I did a Suarez run this weekend and hit these guys up on the way home. Like most upstate NY farm breweries, these guys have gorgeous grounds. It was 80 degrees and sunny out, and my wife and son had a great time just hanging out. They're located right next to this really scenic pond. It was a beautiful place to spend the day. The beers were good enough. I wouldn't exactly go out of my way to come here, but they're close enough to Suarez to make it an easy stop.

Also, it's not exactly beer related but we went to this farm nearby called Rose Hill Farm for apple picking and apparently they're also a cidery. I'm not exactly well versed in cider, but this was some of the best ciders that I've ever tasted. This farm is also where Suarez source the peaches for Like Whoa and the plums for Parlance and they had bottles for on-site consumption. I was kinda gently aggressive with the lady to sell me a bottle of the donut peach Like Whoa to go (I missed out on it when it was available), but she didn't budge haha.

Moriches Field brewery is up and running as of 15 October. On that date they offered four of their own beers and some guest drinks. Crowlers are available to go. They are at 1 Wilcox in Center Moriches, NY (Long Island). They have a bar with interior and outside seating. Snacks are limited to prepackaged chips at present. More info on their website.

I love following this thread for all the exciting upstate brewery news.

Anybody start a google map yet of upstate breweries?

That’s a beautiful idea. I had my middle school digital literacy students customize their own maps last week... I should have offered this on the list of topic suggestions.

Filed under: Missed their opening and existence entirely.

    Ebbs Brewing in Brooklyn.

Anyone got word? They apparently opened in May and we just got some of their stuff in a local shop; I peeped the 'Gram and Untappd and it looks promising and wondered if anyone had any info on them.

I've seen them in stores, but as far as I know there's no taproom yet.

Anyone pick up the cans from Alternate Ending? I didn't want to take the plunge until I heard some feedback. Place seems like it has a cool vibe, but i fully expect everything to be pricey. wish it opened in a non-covid timeline b.c it seems like it'll be a cool place to hang. someday hopefully.

I read on the blog Mets Police that they were taking over the former Mikeller space at Citi Field—and that they’re many of the same people (including Wilson ownership).
