Gorgeous day today! I'm doing a little organizing in the garage and have time for a beer break. Today I'm having Mystery Crowler #2 from @beertunes :
So here's the weird thing after yesterday's Crowler #1: now I'm wondering just what kind of head games he's playing with me this time around .

The thing is, this is undoubtedly a straight up west coast IPA. Maybe even textbook. But then the doubt creeps in...

Maybe the head game is that there's no head game.:grin:

It's a damn fine beer, too. Mostly orange marmalade, with a little floral undertones, and some pine and tropical (mango, starfruit, even a smidge of banana taffy) support. The body is crystalline light caramel, almost slick; and it leads to a clean fairly bitter finish. Well constructed and nothing is out of place. Assuming it's a straight IPA we're looking in the 4.0 range.

But I shall be back in a bit when it's all gone, and then we'll see just what we've got. :sunglasses:

    Good afternoon NBW
I've been curious about this beer since it was released last year and had the opportunity to pick up a single yesterday.
    Yuengling Hershey's Chocolate Porter
    [IMG]
12oz undated bottle poured into a tulip pint glass at fridge temp, no ABV listed on label, but 21+ listed twice on label and once on cap. The aroma is Hershey's chocolate syrup straight up. The taste is semisweet Hershey's chocolate first with a touch of roasted malt porter mid palate before an abrupt and mildly bitter finish. The mouthfeel is thin bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, truth in advertising. I am relatively sure I would pick out Hershey's chocolate as a descriptor in a blind test.

    Cheers all!

Another new Trillium beer for me this week, Dot Ave canned on 10/06/20, featuring the infamous New Zealand 'Nelson Sauvin' hop alongside CTZ. I am intoxicated and smitten over this beer's aroma, this might give Stillings Street a run for it's money in terms of sheer Nelson impact on my head. Every time I get a deep Nelson hop aroma and flavor I am usually in love with the beer.

    Brewery notes:

Pours an opaque bright colored golden orange-yellow with a fairly dense creamy frothy white foam head with good lacing and retention.

Smells intoxicating to me, the crispiest freshest table grapes, fresh gooseberry, fruity white wine, tropical mango, pineapple, apricot, cantaloupe, grapefruity orange citrus, some lemongrass, verbena, with floral snappy earthy resinous herbal dank grassy pine. Throughout the inhale crisp fresh table grapes and gooseberry remain strong with a subtle hint of kiwifruit.

Tastes fresh, crispy and floral with intense fruity and earthy hop notes, blasting with fresh crisp table grape, concord grape, gooseberries, fruity white wine, kiwi, yellow mango, pineapple, zesty grapefruit, orange citrus, lemon peel, some apricot, cantaloupe melon, mild biscuity caramelized malts, lemongrass spice, hints of verbena, and floral earthy resinous herbal grassy pine. The Nelson is intense in the taste, though maybe not captured as greatly as in the quite concentrated aroma, huge taste though, somehow the grape takes on an almost purple/black grape instead of the usually green/white grape that I'm used to from Nelson. Still some fruity white wine and lemony notes with a pretty complex Nelson hop flavor here.

Feels real juicy and smooth, pillowy soft, creamy medium plus bodied with moderate low carbonation. Pretty easy drinking, and with a taste that I love maybe too easy for an 8.2% NEIPA.

Overall I'm loving this. It's been a while since I've had a true expression of Nelson hops, and this is scratching that itch. Really great Nelson hopped DIPA from Trillium. The Ave beers that I've had have been really good and mostly comparable to the Street beers with a bit higher abv. Glad to see a Nelson addition in the series as well, as that is a favorite hop of mine, and one that is a little less common and widespread than the major American hops. A lovely beer from the people at Trillium. Cheers everyone! :beers:

Had a truly difficult week, mostly emotionally, not gonna lie BA; I've been having a really rough time... I have developed strong feelings for a close co-worker who is unhappily-married, which I know is unhealthy right off the bat, but to make things worse, I had been texting with her because she was in the dumps, and we actually hung out, but I think either my attachment to her was a bit too strong and I either scared her away, or she realized she kinda returns the feelings and knows she can't do anything... not sure what the reason is, but she hasn't been talking to me despite us having been really close.

The last thing she said to me in person was something to the effect of "I have some things I need to tell you, but they're too confusing... and when they're too confusing, I just push them down... so I just need some time." I hope this upcoming week leads to some closure. Like, anything at all. I hate the idea of being shut out by someone who means so much to me. I don't think we should even be together (it would be a huge mess, even if she did get divorced and we ended up as a thing... even thinking this way feels dumb to me), but the sting of getting close to her and then feeling like I bungled it is very painful. No idea what's gonna happen, but I just have to hope she'll eventually be honest with me. So... in the meantime, I'm hoping a couple beers and some BA camaraderie will help me out a bit. Here goes nothing. Thanks in advance for listening, you guys.

Finback's Signs of Life is, surprise!, a hazy IPA clocking in at 7% ABV. This was canned on 10/2/20, making it just over two weeks old. The hops used in this one are Mosaic, Cashmere, and 007/Idaho 7.

Pours a creamy-looking, dense yellowish-orange with a solid head of bone-white foam. Great lacing and decent legs with a bit of a cloudy surface to boot. I think Finback mostly has this style down-pat in terms of appearance, so there isn't much more to say on this front.

The nose is a different story... doesn't seem generic or "been-there-done-that." I get a lot of musky melon, tangerine, apricot, dankness, and even a bit of earthy green onion in here along with some light spice, pineapple, and mango. There's plenty going on, and nothing feels like it overtakes the overall profile. Idaho 7 and Mosaic in one beer might seem to some to be a bit "over-the-top" because both hops can really go all over the place, but though this is complex, it feels like it mostly sticks to being tropical and citrusy with a distinct dank element.

On the tongue, this is moderately-creamy and lush with ripe tropical fruit and some rindlike citrus coming to the fore. Definitely a bit more bitter and hop-bite-focused than some of Finback's other NEIPAs with a little more spruce and spice in the backend. Where the nose had a lot of melon and stone fruit, this has more of a focus on Mosaic for sure. Kind of a cool one-two punch thing going on.

Feel is, as detailed above, pretty soft and juicy, but it's still plenty bitter. Light-medium, semi-massaging carbonation, semi-thick and full-bodied with a bit of oily slickness as it goes down. I enjoy it, for sure. Be back in a bit with another one...

Clear, light honey toned color to the body; lively, fine carbonation; moderate sized head, soft and foamy in character. Mild lemon and soft dry white wine aroma; mild spiciness. Outstanding taste; underlying sense of lime and lemon with some bright spiciness; lightly sweet Riesling; delightful citrus tanginess; soft woodiness. Light body; soft and velvety; dry, tingling mouthfeel.

This is an extraordinary oude geuze lambic. The funk level is really subliminal while the fruity, citrus qualities stand out. Well-balanced and very approachable.
    -----------
It's a quiet, overcast, cool afternoon, so this oude geuze lambic and old movies fit the bill. I may light up the fireplace, too for some more ambience and a bit of warmth...

    Siren Be Even More Pacific

Pours a slightly clouded pale golden color with a bubbly, medium sized head atop the liquid.

Smells of grass, skunky weed and dough accompanied white grapes and fresh cut limes.

Drinks smooth with a fitting, late, sparking effervescence, making this refreshing and soft at the same time.

Tastes of bitter, dry limes and riper oranges, with a bready, caramel malt backbone. This gets highlighted by white grape skins, weed oil and resinous, sticky dry hops among a toffee peak. Finishes with a prominent, yet playfully balanced hop dry- and bitterness, lighter bread crust and crackers, wrapped up into earthy, wet white grape skins and unripe kiwi.

This is lovely throughout, with an amazing hop profile, fantastic mouthfeel and balance. I find it impossible not to like this.

I haven't been drinking much beer lately at all and hoppy stuff even less; Oktoberfest beers, Pumpkin Ales, Bourbon and other libations were taking center stage when I was in a drinking mood. But I mixed a six recently and wanted at least one hoppy beer that I never had before and I am in the mood for it now so here we go:

Cape May Coastal Evacuation Double IPA - I haven't had much from this brewery but what I have had I enjoyed. This one is 8%, canned on 09/15/20. The can says it's WC style and Centennial forward. Pours a hazy yellow color with a lasting head. Smell is very fruit forward and a lot going on here. The taste is nice and follows the nose and the can says orange citrus and honeydew melon and that is very accurate in this case; nice bitterness but medium and not overpowering and cuts through the sweetness nicely.

Quite good, would gladly drink this one again.

Good Sunday afternoon, New Beer Swiggers and commentators. Through the magic of the NBS BIF, I'm joining @Roguer today in reviewing Old Money Vampire, a "salted pilsner with tangerine" that I received from @jdell15. When I unpacked this can I was instantly intrigued. While Italian Pilsners are all the rage now, this beer seemed really unique. And it is! It's kind of cross between a German Pilsner and a Fruited Gose; the sweetness of the tangerine is balanced by the salt presence. The base Pilsner itself is tasty. I'm glad to have had the chance to try this. Thanks again, Jake! Here's my full review:

    3.84/5 rDev +0.8%
    look: 3.5 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75

Received from @jdell15 in a BIF. No evident canning date. Poured into a Pilsener glass. It pours a hazy, almost opaque bright tangerine color with a thin, milk-white head and minimal lacing. At first the smell reminds me of a standard Pilsner with Pilsen malt and Tettnanger or Hallertauer hops. However, as it warms in the glass I notice faint tangerine. The tangerine is quite evident, however, in the taste. Its sweetness is balanced by the salty finish. The Pilsner malt and hops are also present in the flavor but they play a supporting role to the citrus. This beer is lite, crisp, and clean and I was surprised that the ABV is 6% - I would have expected it to be lower. Overall, Old Money Vampire is a unique Pilsner and I credit East Sixth Brewing of imagination in brewing it.

I hope everyone is safe, well, and enjoying your new beer(s) this weekend. Cheers, NBW!

    Time for another new brew.

Poured from the bottle into a wheat ale style glass.

Very nice pale bronze body color, deep orange with a shiny brown hue that goes to real nice bronze metal like appearances. Head is a bit soapy but large, three fingers a bit more with a foamy fine hefe look, but then gets bigger and soapier adding to a quick dissolve and small collar. Very cidery looking brew but still solid.

Aroma hints at slight off fusel like alcohol notes, and estery yeast. Mild touches of clove and banana, but more of a bit of sticky caramel malt action as well.

Palate is a bit of a drag. Sharp hinting clove notes on first sip, but more touches of apple like cider sweetness. Finishes a little hot but also fairly wet in body with little supportive mouthfeel. Light touches of orange like tang box juice and faint hinting coriander.

Comes off more like a wit orange mix than a hefeweizen.

    look: 4 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5 | 3.53/5

    Cheers!

Next up is another beer that doesn't quite deliver as advertised: Hilma, a "Vanilla burger bun crispy fries IIPA" from Omnipollo.

    8% ABV

I don't know what on earth the gimmick is supposed to be, because it doesn't deliver. Instead, it's a pretty straight forward IIPA (albeit slightly stale, which is confusing, as it's a fresh can). I have no idea what the "natural flavors" add, or are supposed to add.

It's pretty good, though. That's about all I can say about it.
