Bell's Brewery (2020)

What if the name of the beer was "Bell's barrel aged scotch ale with orange peel and cherry" instead of mentioning a different drink by name? Then would we be arguing about how they just took another BA beer and added crap to it or would someone pipe up and say "Hey it's kind of like an old fashioned. That's neat!"

Sounds interesting. Not my favorite combo of flavors but I'm in for at least a single to try. Pretty sure 3/4 of my beer budget this year has been gobbled up just between Central Waters and Bell's and I'm perfectly okay with that.

The original point someone made that has since turned into a back and forth is on its face ridiculous. The argument isn't over the makeup of the beer, but the name on the label. As I said in my other post if it was named "Bell's BA scotch ale with Cherries and Orange peel" we wouldn't be having this discussion about drinks imitating drinks because the same exact beverage would be perceived differently. It's the same argument as "if you want cake then eat a cake but don't dare put cake in my beer." But in this case it's "don't call it a cake beer if you do decide to put cake in it!"

It's gatekeeping. It's petty. I'm making fun of it and we agree on the meat of the issue. Just trying to have fun here.

I do have the opinion, though, that if you want to drink an old fashioned, drink an old fashioned, not an old fashioned flavored beer.

 

Well that's not allowed, you have to drink the old fashioned flavored beer. You should have read the T's & C's more closely before you signed up on this site.

 

No doubt! I skip the T's & C's all the time. I thought we all did.

 

Sad there will be no Bell's All Stouts Day this year, hope they can hold the event next year.

 

Guys, guys...this is dumb, but I think we can all agree that if they had just called it OFH, @GuyFawkes would've been fine with it.

 

Because if you tried to eat a bourbon barrel you'd get splinters on your uvula.

 

Hey @LarryBell , 35th is an amazing beer and homage to one of my favorite stouts. You tuck any away in barrels? This is the kind of news we need in 2020.

Semi-related topic, this Hop Butcher beer that I'm not really digging right now really makes me want to go out and buy some Two Hearted. Congrats on another W there!

I'm not a fan of using the term triple IPA so this is just ridiculous, IMO. It sounds interesting at least. However, I doubt I will be seeking this one out. So maybe not interesting enough.

Looks like Old Fashioned Holiday hit the metro Detroit area today. I'm excited to try it, but probably wont get to it this week due to my buddy hooking me up with several various Brew Detroit Big Ass Cans.
