@TallGuyCM and I made our first trade in July 2020. That trade went well.

A second trade was negotiated in August 2020. Both parties shipped as agreed. My bottles made it to @TallGuyCM safe and sound. He had shipped me two boxes. One box containing 16 cans made it to me safe and sound. The second box, containing 16 cans, never made it to me. It was shipped USPS and the tracking number has never updated since the package was dropped off. That was two months ago. I have given @TallGuyCM many opportunities to make up for the 16 cans that were lost in transit during those two months. He kept insisting that we wait to see if USPS ever delivers the package. As of today it has still not been received and the tracking number has not moved.

I have contacted him four times in the past three weeks and he is not responding. He is now ghosting me. I hate to post this here but if there was any good faith effort put forward on his part this could have been ignored.

Bummer, Mitchell, but it doesn’t look like you guys used the feedback system. I know if it’s a repeat trader people can get complacent with the system, but it’s a key backup for situations like this.

Edit: I see you left him feedback, but he did not for you for the July one. I had only checked your trades.

Hopefully it can get resolved. Good luck!

@merpunk1, It looks like you used the feedback system for the July 2020 trade, correct? I see you left him feedback - did he leave you feedback? I do not see that he did.

Also, is there an open trade for this August 2020 trade? (It does look like you both have open trades, so I just wanted clarification on that)

    @TallGuyCM care to respond here?

@FBarber I attempted to use the feedback system for the second trade but since it was left open for so long it was removed. He never left me feedback from the July trade. It is still open.

So they never accepted your trade request in August?

They accepted it but it was left open with neither of us leaving feedback yet since I was still waiting on my beer from him

It's the responsibility of each trader to land the agreed upon items. Two months is long enough, he should resend (or send) a replacement box. Also, it's never acceptable to ignore someone you're currently in a trade with.

Heck if he would have taken the insurance money to buy two 4pks and send them my way as an act of good faith I would have let the entire situation go. I have also been on his shoes and made sure I fulfilled 100 % of my end. Not all individuals are the same so an act of good faith would have been good enough for me. It's just beer in the end.

I don't pull the trigger that fast. Let's wait and see both sides of this story.

I can vouch to this for OP, not that he needs it with 100% trade reviews on 200+ trades. In the end if you trade enough adversity is bound to happen when shipping beer. Often what you do in those circumstances defines you as a good or bad trader. Curious to hear @TallGuyCM side. It seems he has been on the site within the past day.

I can personally say that I would feel horrible if I sent a box and it got lost or destroyed. I believe most on this site would feel the same and go to extreme efforts to make the situation right. Perhaps @TallGuyCM feels bad, but just didn't know how to rectify the situation? Were these cans hard to replace? It seems @merpunk1 is taking a polite approach here and looking to make things right. It seems this trade can still be salvaged to me...

Monkish cans. Local to him. Gets most if not all releases. Would love for the trade to still be rectified. But in the end its just beer...

I understand you're trying to keep things in perspective, which is never a bad thing. While the goods you're exchanging are indeed "just beer, " this is about fulfilling a promise and obligation, keeping one's word and keeping the lines of communication open when a trade inexplicably goes south. In that regard, it seems as if @TallGuyCM has fallen short in every way possible. So in my mind at least, this is more than just the OP losing out on his shipment of beer.

Having read over numerous previous BT threads, the situation with @TallGuyCM has an all too familiar ring to it. Hopefully, @Affinity's observation explains the problem... @TallGuyCM simply doesn't know what he needs to do to make things right, as perhaps the beer he tried to send is irreplaceable.

That being said, it appears @TallGuyCM has been back on BA since this thread was created, so he's undoubtedly aware of it. Yet he's so far chosen not to respond. Hopefully, he's just taking some time to come up with a cogent response... though clearly it would be helpful if he would respond to this thread and try to explain his actions ASAP.

Hey all. Wasn’t aware this thread had been created until a few kind souls DM’d me to give me a heads up.

The long story short is that yes, I’m not entirely sure what to do about the situation, but also that I did try and meet Mitchell in the middle and he insisted on (what I considered to be) ridiculous terms so we ended up at a standstill.

Here’s my logic - and please correct me if I’m way off-base - I think this community is great and am open to whatever is suggested. I did a trade with someone over Instagram a few months ago. He received his box right away, mine got lost in the mail for a few months. He did everything he could to amend the situation - phoned the post office constantly, filed online claims (both things I did to try and resolve the situation with Mitchell, which of course he never mentioned. Hours on hold with the USPS while at work until I finally got through, twice) - but never did I think he owed me anything just because he received my package and I didn’t receive his. We both spent the same $4$ on what we shipped, and since shipping beer is illegal after all, we’re both taking on an assumed risk at the end of the day. The package I sent him was worth about $100, and same for the one he sent me. Did I expect him to send me another $100 worth of beer? Heck no. I was bummed about it, but it happens.

Mitchell consistently claimed that I “screwed him out of 16 cans” when we were still discussing how best to resolve the situation, as if I intentionally had the package get lost in the mail. I understand he’s frustrated, but he’s also handled the situation extremely poorly and has lashed out in ways that I surely wouldn’t if I were in his shoes.

What has come of your filed claim. If nothing yet, is there an ETA to resolution?

You’re on the hook, it’s that simple. Either send another box to fulfill the trade as promised or work out something acceptable with OP.

Yes there was two different forms of resolution that was discussed.

    1. I asked him to send 16 more cans and if the other box showed up then I would send him beers to compensate for the lost 16 cans that showed up. That was turned down.

    2. He proposed a trade be made that would favor me in the trade. I agreed to it but we never locked anything down. He backed out of that trade. He then goes on to tell me that he is not responsible at all to replace the cans and I wasn't getting anything from him. That is when I used the words "screwed me out of the cans". Which he is doing now.

I messaged him multiple times and if I received a response it was just a couple words and nothing to bring a resolution or even make a good faith effort. Which all lead to him ghosting me.

We discussed a secondary trade and he agreed, but then he went on to further stipulate that he wouldn’t ship until he received his package first, and demanded that it be from the freshest batch of Monkish IPAs. It felt like a hostage situation, and was again unnecessarily hostile.

At least you have that part correct. I wasn't going to send you more bottles just for me to not receive anything again first. This was a month out from the original trade and I didn't want old IPAs being sent as a replacement. Still do not think it was an unreasonable request. Others can chime in on that though if they like.

Not unreasonable, but you could learn a thing or two about diplomacy.
