Have you been following the progress of Von C Brewing?

    https://voncbrewing.com/

Do you have any thoughts on how well this brewery will be attended (when PA fully ‘opens up’)?

    Cheers!

Oh yeah I have been. I wish them the best and hope that it is successful but that's an off the beaten path/industrial dead zone so they will need to advertise heavily or at least get a really strong word of mouth. Norristown still has a crime problem but all of the bones are here for a resurgence but this may be a little ahead of its time.

Fun fact: a restaurant right near this location was shut down for prostitution and human trafficking, they were running a brothel above the restaurant. I had a lot of the details due to my nature of work and it was pretty horrible.

It's all going to come down to the product, services and ambiance. Sure, with every place this is the case but even more so with this location.

Wait - is this comment about the brothel, or are you back to discussing the Von C brewery?:astonished:

Ha ha I closed with bringing it back to Von C. The brothel was not a classy place by any means :grimacing:

Ha ha nope, due to my line of work I had the details. It was really bad news, underage girls in the mix and all sorts of horrors.

In Fishtown (Kensington/N LIbs it all blurs together, it's all walkable) you have Philadelphia Brewing Co (nice outdoor space, honestly not sure about food situation, Martha and ZigZag are next door and are both awesome food spots), Human Robot (ok outdoor space but they are expanding this weekend, great sandwich shop attached to it), Punchbuggy Brewing (ok outdoor space hot dogs), evil genius (great outdoor space, food is ok), fermentory form (sours, eh outdoor space, no food, only open on thurs), Goose Island (great outdoor space, good food). St Oners (distributing Tired Hands cans right now).

You mentioned distilleries, within walking distance to the above you have stateside vodka, new liberty distillery, Philadelphia distilling, original 13 ciderworks.

Yards Brewing, Roy Pitz, Love City are not far from the above.

Almost everything in fishtown has outdoor space, its pretty nice right now.

Complete tourist question but the appropriate way to order the cheesesteak sandwich is with the cheese whip? Or is that a gimmick?

A bit of a type there; should be cheese whiz.

I personally have never ordered a cheesesteak with whiz since putting orange liquid/goo just did not look appealing to me. I am a provolone man.

Try the wiz, you might like it.

    Cheers!

As long as you aren't running for president your cheese selection is of no consequence. If you go with the cheese whiz you would would just say 'whiz'.
Time for the obligatory "You can get better cheesesteaks than Pat's/Geno's" in a bunch of different spots around the city that are far less concerned with how you say your order.

You can say "wit whiz" or just "whiz".

My personal opinion is whiz is only appropriate when you're at a mediocre place where the meat may be dry. I prefer either American or if a place has good sharp provolone I go with that. Whether you get grilled onions are a personal preference too.

Despite what you often see on menus out of state, a "Philly style cheesesteak" does not typically have peppers or mushrooms, but some places may have the option for various add ons. Or the option for tomato sauce.

+1. American or prov w/ onions is the way to go. Whiz is for tourists.

Also, don’t bother with Dalessandros. Overrated trash, in my very humble opinion:grin:

South Philly has lots of cozy non big box type restaurants. If you like potent imports try Monks Cafe and Brauhaus Schmidts.

Made it to: Joe's & Jim's steaks; John's Roast Pork; New Liberty Distilling, Original 13 Ciderworks; Punch Buggy Brewing; 2nd Story Brewing; Yards Brewing; Love City Brewing; Human Robot Brewing; Philadelphia Brewing Co.; and Iron Hill Brewery.

Grabbed brunch at Green Eggs Cafe, which was incredible and hit every nail on the head.

Also visited Iron Hill, Wilmington Brew Works, Hangman Brewing, and Bellefonte brewing in Delaware nearby.

John's Roast Pork is my favorite spot for cheesesteaks in the area. I've been very impressed with Human Robot, especially their lagers.

This is an amazing resource and I wish more cities had something like this.

Thanks to everyone in this thread for helping me start a list for when we can travel again.
