Thanks. I suspect it's my inability to accurately read the cheap refractometer. I'll re-test/calibrate both instruments.

Ah, I see the 1.0471 was a temp corrected number. The problem with that kind of precision is that it probably didn't exist in the original measurement.

I would have to brew like 10 times just to fill the hydrometer lol:wink:

    - added Metabisulfite calculations for LODO (@Naugled)
    - Fruit Data Enhancements
    - Ingredient Data tweaks
    - added Grain Bill %s and Hop AA %s to BrewDay Print Me sheet

Hey great looking brew sheet, just started using it and have a couple of questions, on the recipe page how do I adjust the grain percentage and can I input grains not on the dropdown menu? or can I change the extract potential for grains that I want to use, as extract potential can change in a year for base malt grain
    thank you

You can just enter the percentages as if they are pounds (in the Lbs column), then use the Scale button to scale it all to your target gravity.

Yes, enter them on the Grainlookup tab. When entering the "basic attenuation" value, you can copy that from a very similar grain.

    Also on the Grainlookup tab.

@VikeMan Thanks for your work, used Brewcipher for a few years now.
It has improved my finished product, it is an impressive and powerful tool

    Hey Vikeman,

Bill Gates I ain't, so who knows what I'm doing wrong, but both times I've tried to download this (6.6 and 6.7) it either tells me the file is corrupt or that it's password protected. Anybody else have similar issues?

In any case, Vikeman and Utahbeerdude, this seems like an incredible resource, so thanks for posting it.

Which file did you download and what spreadsheet program are you running it in?

I downloaded the Excel of 6.7 and am trying to open it as an Excel. When I try to open it it says it can't because it's password protected...

I just now downloaded and opened 6.7 for Excel.
When opening there's the obligatory yellow banner across the top that says "PROTECTED VIEW Be Careful -- files from the internet...(blah, blah)" and a box to click to Enable Editing. But that obviously doesn't prevent the file from opening, it just allows the user to enter data in cells where that feature is available.

Have you tried downloading from the other two links?

FYI, I've started a Conversation with @butterygold. I'll post back here after that if it yields generally useful information.

The basic attenuation value , is this expressed in %

Percent is implied, but they are entered "general" format decimals. That said, you could enter in percentage format and it would be ok.

Also, if entering a new grain I would urge you to copy the basic attenuation from the most similar grain already on the list, rather than (for example) the attenuation you might have got at some point in, say, a SMaSH beer. That's because there are also other factors affecting the recipe's attenuation prediction.

All good to go now. Thanks to VikeMan for the help and also Riptorn for the suggestions. Already building my first recipe for an IPA I'll brew this weekend.

I used a hydrometer for the post-boil SG but forgot to take a refractometer reading.

If using an online calculator to convert the post-boil SG to °Brix, will it return a suitable value for Original °Brix when using BC's Final °Brix to Final Gravity conversion?

I entered my post-boil SG into a couple online calculators to get °Brix. After entering that into BC's Original °Brix, and then entering the current refractometer reading into Final °Brix, it says my Imperial Stout is already 7 points lower than BC's Predicted FG after 6 days in the primary.
That suggests to me it might not be as straightforward as the way I went about it.

What type(s) of actual readings do you have for og and fg?

Just read this again... I think I understand what you're saying you have.

In BC, just tweak the "OG" brix input until the OG matches your hydrometer measurement. Then enter your current refractometer reading in the "FG" brix.
