Dang, it's like ya'll have been in a bubble. Barrel aged stout prices around the country are significantly higher than Kane's.

Just speaking generally here, but I do think there is a bigger portion of Kane customers that solely seek out Kane and maybe a few other local breweries and probably aren’t as attuned to the beer scene as a whole... relative to some other breweries of a similar scale/popularity.

A freaking men. Very steep. Too bad they aren't sold individually like the Anniversary bottles because I would pass on the Coconut variant, at the least and probably the maple.

No I’m not in a bubble. But for ME it’s still pretty goddamn expensive. And I spend a lot of money on beer relative to the general population. Kind of a condescending comment.

Adding to that, Kane had a special bottle release two weeks ago on top of the fact that Kane is far from the only NJ brewery doing special releases right about now.

I wonder what this means for evening bell stuff? Maybe there is none this year? Three is the magic number so here is a third question: if antead doesn't sell out what do we think single regular bottles will sell for?

Tough for me to imagine it not selling out instantly. I’m not sure that’s worth speculating about.

I'm sorry you feel that way, but your getting offended by my comment is definitely throwing me for a loop.

I'm simply stating the fact that when compared to the same beer style produced by other world class breweries across the country, it's not expensive. For the area of the country Kane's located, it actually seems cheap to me. I'm still shocked that Kane's barrel aged beers are so cheap considering how much more expensive life is in general out that way relatively speaking.

Here in Ohio Jackie O's sells BA stouts starting at $12 in 12 ounce bottles, and they only go up from there depending on the adjuncts or other complexities.

Here with Kane you're talking $88 for 4 beers that have shot up to the peak of beer geek hype in the past, and are still held in very high regard by most.

Whereas the Jackie O's is a minimum of $1/oz, Kane here is $1.30/oz.

Again, JO can shoot up to $15 or more per twelver, and the most apt comparison between the two would probably be Appervation, which was $16, so that's pretty much 1:1 with Kane's ANTEAD.

Considering I personally find Kane more enjoyable, and Jackie O's has a massive amount of barrel space, (I'd assume way more than Kane), JO bottles are way more accessible, and JO is located in a lower cost area of the country, the Kane a steal.

But if you still don't think so, let's look at barrel aged stouts by another brewery producing volume on the other coast. Darkstar November is releasing this week for $23.95, also in 500ml bottles.

    That's $1.41/oz to Kane's $1.30/oz.

As with Jackie O's, Bottle Logic has fairly high output now, maybe not as much as Jackie O's but I don't have the numbers. Either way, they are also a lot more accessible than Kane.

Frankly Kane's pricing remaining this low is completely against the grain. ANTEAD at $22/bottle is an unbelievable bargain.

Is there some shorthand we can use to explain that Kane (or whoever’s) prices are approximately in line with the market every single time they have a release so we can avoid repeating this convo lol?

Kane’s prices aren’t high relative to the market they operate in nor relative to the demand for their product. If the product personally isn’t worth the price to you then that’s perfectly okay and I wouldn’t judge anyone for that decision.

I think part of the price "concern" for Kane (at least for me) is that the *ONLY* way to purchase this beer and *guarantee* you get a bottle is at the price point of $88 for four bottles. I'd be OK with plunking down $22 for one bottle (or even $44 for 2) but I (and I'd guess many other people raising price concerns) am extremely hesitant to drop an additional $44 for 2 bottles I really don't want.

I think a big part of the set is:
    a. having less people picking up at the brewery, the logictics in normal tied are terrible and now in COVID times are even worse
    b. in the past with lower allocations people complained but they have always wanted to get a variety of beers into their fans hands... double edge sword but look back at old remarks of "why the low limits"

Predetermined sets is a great way to cut down on large lines of people congregating for pickup.

Dude, I’m not offended (although your comment was presumptuous). But why is it every time someone like me or @jonphisher makes a personal comment that a certain beer (though we may have enjoyed in the past or sounds good) is too expensive for us to purchase, inevitably someone must come along and try to tell us we’re “wrong.” I don’t give a shit how much other breweries charge for BA beer. Shit, I can also just as easily say getting a 4 pack of Founders KBS and variants is much cheaper. Yes, I know it’s 12
oz bottles but it’s 1/4 the price. For me, paying $100 after fees and taxes for 4 500mL bottles is too expensive. You can break down price per ounce all you want, expensive is a subjective term in this case. I don’t want to spend that much for 4 bottles and I won’t - but I know others do and will. This is a (too) long way of saying don’t tell me I’m living in a bubble or that when I say a certain beer of Kane’s is too expensive for ME to buy that I’m looking at it all “wrong.” Unless, of course, you want to buy a set for me.

See the thing is that I don’t think any of us “need” for anyone to explain whether or not Kane’s BA prices are “reasonable” or in line with other breweries. Why not assume that people like me or Jon are aware of BA prices in general but are simply commenting on this specific release of this specific brewery. We’re all active on the mid-Atlantic forum and enjoy commenting on NJ breweries in particular so every now and then we may feel like commenting on the price of a specific release. Like Rob said I would probably pay for one bottle but the whole set is too much for me. Jon earlier said $18 was too much for him for one bottle. Now, I might pay that but what sense does it make to tell him other breweries charge the same or more?

Sounds like there may have been some miscommunication (sorry for my part in that, if so!). I wasn't meaning to call you out in particular. Again, things like "this price is far too high for me" make total sense. However, "this price is far too high [implying that it isn't 'reasonable' given the product/market/demand etc]" make less sense to me. It sounds like you probably meant the former, and not the latter. I see the latter all the time, here and elsewhere, and that's what I was expressing minor annoyance towards.

Exactly this. It's a very subjective term. A few years ago I would've jumped all over this without thinking twice. Then I got married. Wife got pregnant. I'm trying to find a house. Now suddenly $88 for a few bottles of beer is a huge ripoff in my opinion. That's not to say everyone should feel this way. That's not to say it is overpriced (there is a big difference between "expensive" and "overpriced").

But don't piss on my head and tell me it's raining by saying that $88 for a few bottles is a real bargain for everyone who enjoys beer lol

$125 I've seen in NJ for the set when you include tax for 5 bottles (every type except birthday). So yeah, just under a $100 for 4 bottles isn't crazy, but I think it is a bit of a monkey's paw scenario...
"I wish I could get ANTEAD without showing up at Kane's doorstep an hour before open 4 weekends in a row."

WISH GRANTED... EXCEPT NOW THERE'S A HORRIBLE VIRUS AND YOU HAVE TO BUY A WHOLE SET. ALSO YOU LIKE TICKETMASTER FEES RIGHT? WELL THERE'S THIS THING CALLED EVENTBRITE....
