Were the beers only brewed once a few years ago when the set first came out? My local shop picked up a couple cases of the deconstructed 4-packs last week and I asked her why she got so much of one kind of Prairie and nothing else and I told her = it would probably take forever to move it she was able to move it all because they aren't the most popular Prairie beers. She said the distributor was giving her cases for $120 so she figured it would all work out. I am curious is this may be new beer or the stuff from back in 2018 or whenever. She said she will sell me a 4-pack for $20 so I might grab it either way next time I am up there due to how the bottle art looks when you like them up.

I remember none of the beers being highly regarded in general relative to other Prairie but I like the concept. It would be nice to know it they are fresh they I didn't see a date on any of the bottles I looked at.

Ask her the dates on them. Never heard they re-released them so likely the first/only batch. They won't have improved.

If I recall correctly the bottles either weren't dated at all or were code-dated (I bought other Prairie bottles recently and they do it both ways depending on the beer) . Maybe the date is on the case? I'll ask her.

Would you grab it if it were the original 2018? I know your stout game is strong.

At $20, even if it was the original, I'd probably do it. Although none of the component beers were as good as Bomb, my friends and I enjoyed trying them all side by side (with Bomb) to highlight the different flavors.

I'd pass, they weren't great when they came out originally, and aging couldn't fix that. Chili wasn't horrible.

I'm still gonna ask her about dates but assuming they are putting 2 year old beers on the shelves just because the distributor has them for cheap and a lot of customers are ignorant kind of pisses me off. This is my main shop and even though she offered them to me at her cost I am sure those those beers are gonna be in the ~$6.50 range on the shelve which is not cool (they don't lists prices for any of there bottles on the shelf you have to ask)

I already only use them because they are the only place around who sell singles. Shelving a bunch of old expensive beer is pretty damn offensive. It was only obvious in this case because it was a one off and I'm sure those cases were $120 because no one wanted them

I just gotta ask...does it piss you off enough to stop purchasing beer there?

    Cheers!

It is the only place within ~80 minutes I can buy singles of craft beer. The other few spots that are closer don't break 4-packs.

If other stores would start selling singles (and I have asked multiple shops multiple times with no luck). If I were able to get singles closer there is no way I would go to this shop but the cost benefit ratio keeps me coming back because buying singles is extremely convenient even if the process sucks.

So until their competition steps their game up it doesn't piss me off enough to stop purchasing beer there because I save money in the long run and I don't buy non dated stuff anyway.

As long as she isn't lying about what she is selling I will continue to shop to her. This was a bad move on her part but to my knowledge she has never lied to me about what she was selling.

It is is a less than ideal situation but I live in a beer desert. So I have to pick and choose my battles

Another "local" store got 3 of cases of these Prairie bottles and is selling the 4 packs for $12.49 at that price I can't pass its like half the price of KBS. If it isn't terrible I'm getting more. Excited to try to the Parish TIPA as well; I've only had GITM but I love it and I love TIPA's so lets get this day started folks

I'm gonna get started on the Chili Pepper variant first, if these are still decent i am snagging for whole case. for $3 per bottle its it worth a try. Ill let @JackHorzempa know once I formed an opinion on taste vs. value

For anyone curious about this Parish TIPA it is to boozy for its ABV imo. I would take any EQ TIPA over this beer day but #EQJuice is not worth the $33/4-pack it costs where I live.

Shouldn't that be "Welcome to my imperfect world"? :flushed:

Yes, a retailer placing 2 year old beer on the shelf is not good but having beers that were placed on their shelves 1+ years ago and still sitting there sucks too!

I wish there was a beer industry initiative to 'clean out' old product at retailers and create a manageable system to properly maintain stock. While it is true that old beer will not kill or make you sick but all this old product on the shelves is 'sickening' for me.

    Cheers!

Totally agree, but honestly would you pass on the @12.49 prairie just to check out? I am gonna let you guys know if this been i till worth anything and it so I'm buying it up at this price

I am going to be active in the cellar review thread. I'll be reviewing the Chili Pepper variant tonight if all goes as planed. Don't want to drink them all in one day.

Well, I have my 'best man' on it!

    Cheers!

P.S. My above comment is a bit 'tongue in cheek' but my dilemma is that if I purchase old beer from my local beer retailers then I am part of the the problem since I am enabling their bad business practices. Maybe I should 'vote' with my dollar and not support this stuff.

Has anyone mixed all 4 and compared against Bomb? Not suggesting drinking all 60 oz, just wondering for science

There is, they call it Beer Advent Calendars. Went into my local store Saturday and wondered were most of the beer on the shelves for extended periods went. Happy for the store, because they are small and do a good job with managing their beer for the most part, but beers slip through the cracks and they have limited refrigeration space. They sell a ton of these each year, it seems it is a win win for everyone involved, and it's not like they are all old / stale beers, but a portion are.
