Stumbled upon a local store with crazy old bottles sitting on their shelves... Curious about the value of some of these beers on the trading market and if they're worth me picking them up.

    Sierra Life & Limb
Gnommegang 2010 or 2011 I believe it was
    Samaels 2006
    the beast 2006
    Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence 2010
    Flying Dog Weizenbock
    Flying Dog Dog Schwarz

I could be wrong, but I think the only ones that might command some value would be the 2006 ones.

I'd just buy the Life and Limb and drink it. It's pretty solid.

I would personally trade for those 2006 Averys. Can't speak for their overall trade value. I like the Avery Demons more than most.

I would trade for the Weizenbock, but not much. Let me know if you're interested in anything from Chicago that's not Bourbon County.

are talking about a ROI? How about trading them for $4$ for something you want that someone else can grab off the shelf, maybe slightly limited.

Why are there so many threads lately like this. People wondering if they hit a trading gold mine, and only viewing beer worth buying/trading if they can get more than they spent out of it.

Bros, instead of the Trading section being under "Community" can we get a new subsection called "Marketplace"

Well I asked if they were worth me picking them up as in does anybody want them, otherwise I would be stuck with beers I don't want.

How on earth did you pull that I was looking to trade them well above $4$ at all in that comment?

Cause you asked for the value, aware of the sticker price?

    Ask yourself:

"Have I noticed people looking for insert beer name here in the trading forum?"

    Or even better....

"If I actually attempted a search the ISO/FT forum, would I get any hits?".

If the answer is no.....then........there's your answer.

Actually the store doesn't post prices and the only woman who works at the front is a pretty big b*tch and therefore I didn't bring up all eight bottles to ask the price and then not buy them.

So i have no clue what they would cost me and first wanted to see if it was worth my time to pick them up.

This turned from me trying to spread the love of some beers from 2006 with people who might want them to an argument about marketplace and $4$, per the usual.

because you specifically were asking about their value on the market, not if these beers are trade-able. Your question is asking if they are worth picking up based on their value on the "trading market".

And like I mentioned there have been a lot of similar type threads with the intention of finding out if they can "turn a profit" on some beers they found on the shelves. If that was not your intention to be grouped with those types of threads then I am sorry, but I would word your post differently.

But who's to say some beers from 2006 just aren't generally floating around much anymore?

I was honestly trying to see if people were looking for them in general so I could get some locals from elsewhere that I haven't had the oppurtunity to drink yet. Even more so because the beers on the shelf didn't appeal to me but I'm sure somebody else would want some avery BA stuff from 2006.

It's generally just assumed in this community that everybody has a negative motivation from the start.

Honest answer: There are beers that are on the shelf right now that I'm sure you have access to that would garner much more interest than any of these "vintage" beers ever will. Sorry. You found nothing special.

(general rule of thumb: old beer on a shelf does not always equal rare find)

    FT: (the beers you found)
ISO: Locals I haven't tried (with accompanying list).

    It's that easy.

recently yes. Because there are a lot of new comers with the attitude of having to "win" in trading and turning every beer they can find into a wale.

Sorry to offend you, but as others (and I previously) have stated your post was very misleading as it does ask to the value of the beer.

Some tips/suggestions. It is good to know the cost of the beer before trying to trade it. Someone might be interested in some of those, maybe even with a little % added on due to age (if aged properly). But if they are trying to get $$$ for some of those, and that is why they are sitting on the shelves, that is good info to know. Also, in general aged beers are tricky in the trading realm, mainly because no one knows the condition they have been aging in. Have they just been sitting on the shelves all these years? Is sunlight beaming the shit out of them for the past 2-6 years?

Honest question: What kind of store of any kind doesn't post the prices on the shelf/bottle? Are consumers just meant to inquire into the cost of every item?

I only ask 'cause I've never heard of this and wanna steer clear of any such establishment in the future...
