Bells expedition stout is very smooth for being so high in alcohol that it ages well in my basement for months maybe longer though I don't know because I can not keep from drinking it while I have it.

You aren’t giving me a lot of stout to work with and the budget is very modest for the amount of adjuncts needed.

I think the bald guy would just barrel age the expedition and then you’d have to keep it

Valid topic but since the threads title was very vague I’ve decided to edit it, please keep it on topic fellas.

Bells Expedition Stout appreciation thread?

Bell’s own description says “The flavors will slowly meld and grow in depth as the beer ages in your cellar.”
    And it says:
    “Alcohol By Volume: 10.50%
    Original Gravity: 1.115
    Shelf Life: Unlimited”

If you haven't already, you should seek out 35th Anniversary Expedition that was released in the last few months. It's pretty amazing. Welcome to BA!

A few years back, the kids’ school buried a time capsule. I tried to get a bottle of Expedition included to put this “unlimited” claim to the test. Long story short, the conversation didn’t go well and I was barred from participating in the PTO for a year. I just figured it’d be nice to include a little something for the teachers in 100 years!

Is this really true? If so, I believe that I have clearance to thank you on behalf of educators everywhere. Also, pretty sure admin at one place I work would've found a way to make this work and circumnavigate the PTA. I'm blessed with my bosses.

Completely true. This was in Western MI, so basically DeVos country (shudder :unamused:) and anything like that was a no-go from the start. FWIW, the objections were from the very-heavily-involved-ultra-conservative-stay-at-home-mom PTO chairs, not the school. I gifted a few bottles of that and some other stuff to various teachers that year.

I am as well. I have my principal in the Secret Santa this year. I’m on the fence with making up a sixer of cellar beers for him.

Back to Expedition Stout... I buy six every year. Drink one right away, put one on the shelf, and drink the other four throughout the year, including the oldest one in the vertical. I believe I still have one or two from 2014.
By the way, I do the same with Sierra Nevada’s Bigfoot and Narwhal.

If you don't follow Bell's on Facebook look it up. @LarryBell is about to unload some 25 year old bottles of this brew. I wish I lived closer to Kalamazoo.

I try to do the same with all of the beers you mentioned plus Bells Third Coast Old Ale. I always drink them before I can even make it through the year. I'm lucky to make it 6 months. I've got 3 35th anniversary expos in the basement. Hoping for better success.

I was lucky to get two of those. Still have not tried one.

Seriously, put one in your fridge for the weekend. It's drinking perfectly - no reason to sit on it imo.
