What Beer Are You Drinking Now? #2964

One of my absolute favorite bands of all time dropped their 16th album last Friday on my birthday. With an original member returning to be a four piece instead of a three and Berneman out of the band after creating masterpieces like “M16” and epitome of torture I was skeptical but this shit slams.

It’s been raining for two days solid where I live. Given the time of year, it could easily have been snow, and if it was, it would have been a lot. So, dodged a bullet I guess.

First beer of the day is Back To The 90’s, a 6.5% India Red Ale from Lervig. This one is really growing on me, but I can’t buy it local and need to order more from Toronto. There are some Mikkeller and Omnipollo beers I want more of, so I’ll bunch them together in one order. Cheers.

Is that meatless sausage? Any recommendations? I like Beyond but I stray away from those types of things most of the time

 

Drinking my last dust covered 2016 Lagunitas High West-ified imperial coffee stout aged in High West rye barrels. Served close to cellar/room temp, quite complex and nice, fudgy dark chocolate, roasted coffee, meaty smoke, dried dark fruits, rye whiskey oak barrel, hint of grainy spice, caramel, dark toffee, molasses, leathery tobacco, subtle hops. The coffee isn't very strong anymore and melds with the dark chocolatey roasted malt flavors and barrel character, leaving a trace behind in the aftertaste. Still a pretty nice barrel aged stout. It's Dec 1 and I haven't got a response back after submitting the studio apartment application to the realtor early this month for the landlord/homeowner's review. I'm guessing that means I'm not the lucky chosen one who gets to move into the space. Was kinda hoping I could since it is a nice location around everything and a couple hundred cheaper than most studios here which usually run at least 1200/month. Haven't really looked for other places, that was the only place I found when I did a quick search last month that I was interested in. I'll continue to look around for any deals in a good location I like. Last couple places I rented it was basically first come first serve, whoever writes the check first gets the place. I was ready to write a first/last/security check that day I checked this place out, but I was told the homeowner would be reviewing applications. Kinda sucks to have competition for a living space but whatever more money saved in the meantime I guess until I find another spot I can get into, hopefully a private place, since right now it's not such an ideal situation to be sharing a house with others, but guess we all need to learn to live with this scenario...

Having some lamb-bean soup, with our last garden greens salvaged, along with another giant NI Double (x 3) DIPA. Delicious. Also, my new guitar (cough @LarryV ) arrived today - a new Yamaha trans-acoustic guitar (dreadnought), has an internal battery-powered resonator, inside an already well made guitar, and you can acoustic reverb and a chorus effect.
It's super weird, but beautiful sounding. Cheers!

 

Pours a very attractive mahogany with a finger plus sticky off white head that leaves thick patches of lace with excellent retention. 4.5

Aroma the rye immediately hits, oaky vanilla, dates, fig, brown sugar, and some molasses. 4.25

Taste follows rye whiskey, woody vanilla, fig, dates, brown sugar, and a hint of molasses in the bold yet balanced finish. 4.5

Mouthfeel is above average, gentle carbonation, not dry, and at 10.3% it may drink a tad bigger, but extremely approachable. 4.5

Overall I will be sitting on a can or two off these and see how this ages. Very drinkable now but I bet a little time in the can will smooth it and bring the flavors together even better. Really a nice Fall and Winter Beer. 4.5
