I asked this question five years ago and it got some fantastic responses. I know we talk all things beer on BA, but sometimes it's nice to share what we all do in our day-to-day. Perhaps the pandemic has affected some folks, (unfortunately) but I hope you've found a new "calling" if you will. It's great to hear from all of you. It makes this community more connected, IMO. I'll start:

I've been an Asst. Professor of English and ESL for seven years.

    Stay safe and healthy

    Cheers and Happy Holidays, y'all!

And If you don't want to share, that's all good! Just wish everyone a happy holidays, if you'd like. Again, cheers

Glorified report writing, AKA “Business Intelligence”. Data analysis with some coding stirred in. For the last 6 years. Straight up code slinging before that.

I’m RETIRED, as of mid Oct. I now clean the house, do the chores, cook dinner, wash dishes. Or I don’t sometimes. My wife’s a nurse consultant who travels so sometimes she’s gone, so there’s little to do.

I manage two software development teams in a business domain 99.9% of you have never heard of.

Many years ago, I was a support engineer for a missile launching system...back in those days, it was fun to tell new people at parties and social events (remember those?) what I did for a living. Now it's humorously awkward. "I work on missile systems for the military!" :open_mouth: versus "I work for a company you've never heard of making software you've never heard of in a field you've never heard of..."

That said, my current job is way better than the old one.

I'm a Principal Systems Engineer for a government contractor, at the same federal government facility for 37 years, 25 years of it in management. I plan, procure, lead projects, do trade studies, and have worked with satellite technology/reception and data storage.

I was also a part-time Taekwondo instructor until semi-retiring two years ago. I still help with tournaments.

I was once a soldier, then a town employee, then a mailman, then employee in a High school all until my early thirties.

Now full time volunteering as a Mod at BA and beer drinker.

Seriously though as I said I have pretty much always worked for the French public sector and I’m now looking to be either an independent or work for a smaller local company or why not even in the beer industry.

Program manager over production of the night vision/targeting & fire control radar system for the world's most lethal attack helicopter AH-64E. Extremely cool to see "our" stuff flying around the world but a very high stress quality/cost/schedule driven environment. In the late 90's the average life expectancy (pension checks drawn) for someone with 35 years of service in my job was 16 months.......I'm in year 35.........

Lol, in a past life, I was in the Marines in 2nd Angelico, we were either embedded with infantry, or worked in small teams tasked to calling in artillery, air support, naval artillery. Got out went to school and I worked in the medical field in different areas and fields into the late 1990s. Owned an art and frame shop while my kids were in school, sold it when my kids were old enough then went to work framing art till Oct. Now I’m a homebody looking for a hobby. I might buy a bike and start putting miles on it.

    Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer, Crematory Operator.

I help families in their time of need; basically I help facilitate the planning funeral services for their loved ones. I coordinate with cemeteries, vault companies, handle paperwork, coordinate ministers, songs, everything that goes on into a funeral whether that be in a chapel, church, graveside, I making sure it goes off without a hitch, (hopefully.) Shit happens out of your control.

I do embalm when needed and I cremate my fair share during the week. I also make removals when someone had passed whether that be in the home or a hospital.

@snaotheus I usually get asked that question at parties, (remember those before covid?), and they immediately regret asking or go into a absurd mortuary story that they heard from their mother’s friend’s twice removed cousin:

“I heard y’all hang them up by their toes to drain the blood, is that true?”

My funeral home is still family owned, which makes a big difference.

A lot of places you will find today have been bought up by a firm called SCI which is a large conglomerate. Think AB-InBev. In our business, they stand for “Secure Cash Immediately.” That should tell you all you need to know.
