The arthritis in my hands was getting old, bad knees, swollen feet, just got tired of it and it was an easy choice, especially at holiday time.

Sounds as exciting as working as a toll collector, but it pays far better no doubt.

Geologists are clearly the heaviest drinking group. When my wife was a bartender she could automatically pick out the geologists at the bar.

My wife is a school nurse, she's one of the few employees on site to take care of the special ed students who get in-person instruction. She doesn't leave the house except for going to work
, I do all the shopping(once every 10 days I buy beer, bread and veggies). At her rural school the students are fine with masks, the staff not so much-they call her the Mask ****.

PPE works, it’s the lax staff off duty that brings it into the building.

Not the case here with a lot of school districts.

Loving this thread. I’m the director of a homeless shelter for families with children. 15 years in this role. Every day is different. COVID hasn’t been fun but we’re doing everything we can to keep staff & guests safe while providing essential services. Been going into work since this all started. It felt like I was in a horror movie in late March/ early April when I’d walk or bike into work and literally no one else was outside. Beer is one of my favorite pastimes but I have to keep it under wraps at work since many of our guests struggle with sobriety. No IP trades on the clock. I still chase a little but by and large, think we’ve got it pretty damn good with our on the shelf selection in NC. Cheers to all and happy holidays.

Holy crap, you just made me realize this is true of both geologists I've been friendly with!

I'm currently the beer buyer/manager for a chain liquor store with a less than stellar reputation on these forums; at least at my particular store, I strive to change that. I've been the buyer for over two years now, I've been with the company for four.

Prior to that, I was just a sales associate who was there at the right place and time. Previous beer buyer left just after showing me how to "run" the department so it just naturally fell to me. Interviewed for a management position at the store so I could continue running it.

Without getting into too many specifics numbers wise, my store went from third in the district and dead middle of the pack in the company overall to first in the district and top 30 (out of about 200 stores) in the company, alongside some stores located in very beer centric markets up north and in San Diego county.

Before those jobs, I was an aerospace machinist working on three-axis manual mills, I apprenticed under my grandfather (who passed away this year) straight out of high school. It helped me pay for college... which I didn't finish. :joy: I also had a very brief stint in IT, specializing in computer repair.

Cheers! ICU nurse here as well.

I asked my boss the other day if i could attach a go pro to my head or chest, so the next time my wife asks why I drink so much I could just show her the video.

For a few more years I'll be doing what I've been doing for the last 20 - designing, developing valve solutions primarily for commercial nuclear power applications.

Hey! You might be the 0.1% who has heard of what I do! We write software for three (or more) axis CNC measurement systems.

Also, I might need to find out which store you work at. :beers:

I am! The three axis Bridgeports I worked on were almost 100% manual; only thing automatic on those were the X-axis feeds. So I never got to take advantage of what you worked on but that's super cool.

You don't have to dig far in my post history to see where I talked about some of the challenges I've encountered where I mentioned the company I work for.
