I sent the package, UPS tracking confirmed delivery 4 days ago with date, time, and front door drop location. He says he did not receive.

First time working with this person. Facebook trade. I feel bad if the package didn’t get to him...but UPS says it did.

Advice on handling this? Responsibility lies with?

I mean in that case you did all you could do he's implying someone stole his package which is a whole other can of worms

Delivered = no longer your problem. If package wasn't delivered or was damaged then it's on you. Stolen package isn't.

I don't see how you would be responsible.

also when did he report it was missing. within minutes, hours or days since the time it was delivered from UPS?

Either way, both of you should report to UPS for missing package.

hmm. I suppose he may not be lying. But he has little basis to fight that responsibility is on you.

He left it out for hours/days... it's 100% on him. People steal packages all the time.

Or, UPS delivered to the wrong address. That also happens.

Recently, a friend sent me a package and fedex delivered. Immediately within receipt of the email confirmation, i told my wife to check the front door and secure the package. It wasn't there! I checked all the neighbors doors and none was found. UPS never recovered the missing package. Bad things do happen.

I agree with @Yabu . If USPS signaled it was delivered, you can not be held responsible. It is possible that a carrier got the addresses mixed up and delivered it to a neighbor but i feel that is the responsibility of the recipient to sort out. He said she said after the carrier signals delivery.

    Just my two cents.

I agree with a couple of you that UPS could have delivered to the wrong address. This just happened to me a couple months ago.

A decent sized trade where the tracking showed delivered but no package at home. My wife was home all day and never heard a peep outside. A few days later a neighbor from up the street knocked on the door holding a box.

Turns out, an inadvertent key slip had the wrong house # listed. A simple mistake that could be made by either side, either the recipient while giving his address or the sender while filling out the shipping ticket.

OP, ask your shipping partner what address he used. The proper address means you're off the hook end of story

This just happened to me yesterday as the recipient of a UPS package. I got an email from UPS MyChoice minutes after it was marked as delivered. I run outside and don't see my package anywhere. It's not around my house and I don't see any packages on my neighbor's porches. Fortunately, I have surveillance so I review the footage and no one walked up to my house +/- 5 minutes of when the box was marked as delivered. I shared the footage with the other party but I'm also not holding the shipper responsible since it looks like UPS misdelivered it. I filed a claim with UPS and the party is cooperating with the process.

I'm sure all the carriers are swamped with Black Friday purchases adding onto their already stressed load so mistakes do happen but from my perspective it's not the shipper's fault and you should not be on the hook for sending a replacement. At least I didn't ask for one and feel it wouldn't be right to.

Claim process is underway with UPS. He seems like a genuine dude and isn’t trying to hold me responsible

This is why I always ask if my target wants a signature... I explain that the only way if it is "guaranteed delivery" is with a signature.... That way no matter what, I am NOT responsible if it gets delivered but "stolen".

It also gives less probable deniability to FedEx... "Did you get the signature that I asked for?" If FedEx says they skipped the signature process, then it is even more the shipping company's fault.

Personally, I would send another box of cool stuff if the trader isn't happy.

I had a box take almost 2 weeks once recently with USPS with the holidays. However, I also had a box get delivered within 3 days from USPS in the same time frame (one east coast vs west coast).

I told the trader if he doesn't see my box within the month I'll send another box from Fedex instead of USPS np if he doesn't see it soon. He ended up getting the box from USPS no prob, and it was all good.

    Side note:
I have a lot of beer to the point I'll send another box if one goes missing or the trader has some sort of discrepancy and I wouldn't think twice. If the trader doesn't get the second box then there's no hope for humanity haha.

    Cheers

Check if your neighbors received it. We have a subdivision FB group and at least once a week this happens and usually (90%) it ends with the package was dropped off at the wrong house.

This definitely needs to be checked on...if it has not already

If the neighbors don't have it.....this would definitely be a nice gesture

From personal experience, I know that usps logs the gps coordinates with each parcel scan. A few years ago, they delivered a parcel to a completely wrong address, but we managed to get the exact coordinates and found it in the hallway of an appartment building. Probably to late for OP after a few weeks, but this info might be helpful for someone else.

I am currently in the middle of a situation just like this. I dropped off a package via FedEx last Monday hoping it would get to the recipient in time for Christmas (hindsight - this was stupid as it was going from Denver to Maine and there's no way it was doing that the week of Christmas).

Anywho, the package was slated to be delivered Monday the 28th all week but then to my surprise I got a notification it was delivered Sunday the 28th. I didn't think FedEx delivered on Sundays. Of course, the guy said he didn't get it and says he was home all day Sunday so there's no way he would have missed it and no way it was delivered but swiped by a porch thief. He walked around his entire apartment complex and even asked a few neighbors if they mistakenly got it but no luck. I've opened a case for this and after several calls and check-ins, they're still in the process of trying to locate it. They've asked me to give them until the end of the day Monday the 4th and if it hasn't turned up by then I can file a lost package claim.

Super frustrating. I've shipped probably in the neighborhood of 70 packages via FedEx and haven't had a single issue until now. I guess maybe I was due for an incident.

This was several years back, but I had the same thing happen, shipping a box to Pittsburgh. FedEx said the box was delivered, but my trading partner never got it. I spoke to Fedex customer service several times, and they suggested that my trading partner check with the neighbors to see if the box might have been delivered to a nearby address by accident. The FedEx agent told me she even spoke to the local delivery guy, who stated he actually remembered dropping off the box at my friend's house. My friend canvassed the neighborhood, hoping to get a lead as to what might have happened to his box, but no luck. The agent advised me that it was pretty clear someone in the neighborhood must have stolen the box, and recommended that in the future I pay the extra cost to have a signature required upon delivery. Ultimately, I went ahead and filed a claim and received a check for the declared value of the box.

Except guess what? A couple weeks later my trading partner told me to check fedex tracking. Sure enough, tracking showed my box back in transit, sent out from some fedex hub in the Chicago area. A day or two later the box showed up on my friend's porch, none the worse for wear (fortunately, the contents were some high octane HOTD beers that weren't affected by the cold or added delay).

While relieved that my friend got his box, I was pretty pissed by the little charade I was treated to by fedex customer service (especially the delivery guy who "remembered" dropping off the box originally). I sent them an email and left a voicemail message asking for an explanation, but of course never heard back.

Needless to say, I went ahead and cashed the claim check without any qualms or sense of guilt.

Sometimes if there's a location close for said carrier....hold at location can help

Fedex does deliver saturday and sundays this month, so that's not a surprise. But bummer they delivered to the wrong address.

Wild story, and nice how it worked out better than imagined. Definitely cash that check. Unless you put insurance for $2000 in a package, they don't care if 1 of the millions of boxes get lost each day.
