This might be heresy here, but I tried a Deth by Cherries tonight and it was good but not great. Seemed undercarbed and had a bit of the dreaded cough syrup tones. I have a 4-pack so will give it another try but so far glad I didn't buy more.

This truly makes me wonder if there is “batch” variation (by can batches). The 3 cans I’ve had (opened my 3rd tonight after you posted) literally have no resemblance to to SJ. I think I got the dregs in this pack.

Edit: and please, everyone keep in mind my fupa status.

What was the date on the can you opened tonight? Curious if it's different from mine...

We can probably blame the variance on my garbage palate.

You have one of the greatest avatars on BA (it still makes me chuckle every time I see it), I would never negatively judge your palate.

For what it is worth, my first two cans of Cherries have been the most carbed DW offering yet, almost to a negative degree. I would have preferred it undercarbed by comparison. Thought the cherry flavors to my palate were the best done in a stout and on par with Ten Year for a fantastic sweet and tart blend of cherry. My main issue was that the barrel seemed too muted compared to what I am accustomed to with DW. Still an above average offering in this crowded stout season.

Interesting. I don't know enough about how Cherries is produced to know how much batch variation is possible. I thought the cherry flavor was on the sweet side with a little medicinal tint, and as I said the carbonation was a little flat. It wasn't bad, it was actually pretty good, but I was prepared to be blown away and it just wasn't there.

Pour it into a glass, let it sit, come back to it in an hour and let us know how the cherry tastes.

These beers come from a single blend in a single brite tank and all get canned within an hour to a few hours of each other depending on the scale (Deth’s Tar vs Honey). Store Cold.

While you all argue about the nuances of deth by cherries I sit here with a fridge of deep woods with a total lack of smell from covid.

Happened to find some 2011 bourbon county stout from my move six years ago as i quarentine cleaned my furnace room.

I feel like Im in the twilight zone and I broke my glasses

If you still had some 2015 Bourbon County around this would be the perfect time. Seriously I hope you feel better soon.

    DESTROYED BY THE EMPIRE CROWLER
After four years in heavily toasted Woodford Double Oaked barrels, this micro-lot of Deth's Tar Imperial Oatmeal Stout hits the palate like an oaky superlaser blast from the vacuous ether. Each sip starts as a wave of concentrated malt-derived chocolate and graham before rapidly yielding to a lumberous overlord cloaked in cherry & vanilla. 15.6% ABV

lol. Can't wait to solo dome this. @GuyFawkes Want to do a podcast together this time?
