Hello out there. I have family members asking me what is on my list to upgrade my brewing equipment. I have been brewing for about a year and do BIAB with a 10 gallon kettle. I am between a stainless steel fermenter and a mini-fridge in order to cold crash. What would you do? I think I am while away from kegging, so maybe stainless is not that urgent? Thanks in advance.
If you might eventually start kegging you can give yourself some flexibility by getting a chest freezer instead of a mini-fridge. If you're handy the freezer can be converted into a keezer at a later date but be used as a fermentation chamber also. Or if you're brewing batches greater than 5 gallons with your BIAB setup, or high abv beers with a ton of wet grain, a hoist above the kettle can save you from back-breaking lifting.
Me personally I’m also for a stainless fermenter and a few pounds of hops to go with my 500pd of grain.
Maybe stainless steel fermenter with temp control. Anvil has a 7.5 stainless for $130 plus their temp control package is another $130. On sale at Morebeer. Get a fermwrap for $30 and for just under $300 you are set for fermentation and control. I’m eyeing up that Anvil setup myself. Gets good reviews and is by bar the best value.
