    This brewery opened 12/04/20.
Went to Bull N Bear yesterday afternoon and left very impressed. The place is small and spartan inside and there is a small outdoor area in the rear. Right now there are only 4 beers but more are on the way. The 4 beers are all at least very close to excellent. The 4 beers are Blue Chip English Brown Ale .5.5 ABV 50 IBUs . Initial Public Offering IPA, 7.5 ABV 75 IBUs, Saint Alphonsus Belgian Dubbel 9.0 ABV 35 , Pipes of Christmas Scotch Ale 8.5 ABV 50 IBUs, The Brown ale is very good. The IPA is excellent very balanced as much a English IPA as West Coast. The Dubble is a fine beer very fruity for the style, The star of the show was the Scotch Ale. I haven't drank many Scotch Ale so I can't rate it to style so let's just call an excellent beer. It's brewed with peated malt. There is peat in both the aroma and the taste. This beer is a malt bomb it will be a great winter warmer. The staff is top notch in every respect.
If you are not familiar with the Summit area there are 2 other breweries and a brew pub close by. Twin Elephant in Chatham and Untied in New Providence are both about 5 minutes away. The Trap Rock Brewery Restaurant in Berkley Heights is on the same road as Bull n Bear about 5/6 miles to the west. One could make an afternoon of it.

Thanks for starting this thread! I was impressed with both the tasting room and the quality of the beer. I like the fact that they only opened with four beers - it seems that they opted for quality over quantity. Also, the styles were great: Dubbel, Scotch Ale, English Brown, and a DIPA. I tried all but the Dubbel and I'm kicking myself now. I'm anxious to try the ESB when it's available. The only downside is the parking. The garage across the street is a bit of a pain but you can usually find a place to park on DeForest.

Right. I seem to remember the general consensus not too long ago was the that we all thought it was better to open with just a few beers but all dialed in than many beers done just ok.

The lot directly behind the brewery is free for 1 hour. Summit is brutal about parking so it's better to be save than sorry.

Their IPO IPA has kicked and another IPA has been added. Mango Cantango IPA is now on sale.

Anyone in the Summit area who likes Extra Special Bitters should make an effort to try Better Year Bitter. It's one of the best ESBs I've ever had. The caramel malt, toffee, and hint of chocolate are nicely balanced by strong, earthly bitterness. 50 IBU. 5.5% ABV. It has attitude.

Thanks I'm going to get there either today or tomorrow. Did you try the Schwarzbier?

It should last. IMO it is not as good as the ESB but a very good brew.

Finally stopped in today. Got crazy busy shortly after we got there.

have to say I’m very impressed for the quality and diversity for such a new place. Tried essentially all the bees sharing two flights.

my favorites were the bluie chip brown and the mango contango, but honestly everything was pretty well executed and true to style. While I did like the schwarzbier I did wish it had a bit less sweet/more bitter and crisp finish and perhaps a bit more carb otherwise it would’ve been a home run too.

once the weather turns warmer and restaurants in summit return to full swing this place will be a home run based on foot traffic alone, but it seems the quality is there to succeed in any event, which is a nice bonus. Good luck to them and I’ll be back for sure.

They have an Imperial Stout on now. Excellent brew no added flavors.

Bull n Bear now has both a Dortmunder and a Kolsch being served, Both are outstanding and brewed to style.

I went on Friday and thought the Kolsch as weird - something off... malty and heavy for the style to me unless they mixed them up... I was less impressed this time around, but still solid. Schwarzbier was still my favorite. but enjoyed TEB's version a little better. The Faangtastic IPA was also very solid, very nice flavor but it was pretty much a clear beer, odd for NEIPA. Perhaps they were understaffed at the time, but the service was a bit gruff.

I stopped in Bull n Bear today and had two beers

Liquid Assets - Dortmunder Lager (who brews this style any more?) and was blown away. Great balance, nice malt character and just enough sweetness. This beer is everything a lager should be.

Syndicator - Dopplebock - another beer crafted perfectly to style.

Two lagers and I'm very impressed with this brewery.
