Drinking beer and getting fat as a retired man. I was a chemical engineer that actually did mostly compliance work in the chemical industry. A big chunk of my homebrewing equipment was saved from the scrap/dumpster when one of our plants closed down.

    Paramedic.

Granted, according to popularized media, I'm an ambulance driver.

    Here's the ironic part-

I rarely, if ever, drive an ambulance.

I manage a family owned sandwich shop. The high’s and low’s have been extreme this year. Not to mention trying to convince a staff of college kids to stay responsible has been stressful.

I'm a mental health therapist. Plenty of work for me in these trying times but I am fortunate to be doing the bulk of my work from home. I go into the office one day a week and the rest of the week I do all my appointments from my home office by zoom and telephone. I work at one of the smaller clinics in our company so I am currently the only therapist at our clinic. So I wear a lot of hats. I lead two OBMAT substance abuse groups and a vivitrol group every week and the OBMAT group has been growing so fast lately that I'm about to start a third group. I also am a trained child trauma therapist. I'm about 6 months away from completing my supervision period and obtaining my LPC. Until then I am a provisionally licensed therapist. After that I will also get certified in TF-CBT (the child trauma approach I specialize in.) I recently completed a second trauma therapy approach that is more applicable for adults. I do a lot of work in trauma and complicated grief. And of course I also do a lot of work with general mental illness; depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and various schizoid/schizotypal disorders.

That's not what I hear or read in a wide variety of media options. The media is not a monolithic entity that is on a mission to mislead the public. We get that from elsewhere.

Agree 100% with this. I'd gladly pay more taxes for healthcare (and many other public goods that benefit humans). I guess I'll just keep my beer consumption at a minimum so I don't get myself sick and then hospitalized. Balanced drinking works for me. A few beers a week, no prob.

    What a great topic!
I cut grass and shoveled snow......
I got a paper route and deliver newspapers in the am and pm, Chicago Daily News and American, Tribune and Sun-Times, I flipped Burgers at Burger Chef, (not to be confused with Burger King, we actually had good food).
I wasn't a rocket scientist so I got on the high school work program. Industrial arts classes got me into a machinists job.
Did production work, then tool room machining, tool and die, moldmaking, CNC programming and then Mold Design.
After bouncing around the last few years of my working life I drove a forklift at a major wholesale club unloading trucks.
Finally at age 66, the Federal Government gave me job, any more than that and I'll have to kill you all.
    Enjoy your beer!

And relocate? We do diesel emissions testing where I work. Its entry level shenanigans but its honest. In all seriousness good luck out there.

Environmental consultant/project manager. I investigate and clean up industrial/commercial pollutants in soil, groundwater, and air, mainly for private clients and some state/federal brownfield projects.

My daughter is a fairly newly minted EMT, getting her hours in while in college to qualify for PA school. She loves riding with Paramedics, she learns so much from them. Keep it up and thank you, you are anything but an ambulance driver.

Repurposing stuff that other people overlook or think is junk is a heck of a low-cost outlet for the creative-minded. I swear I could write a book just focusing on all the non-irrigation uses for PVC pipe, which is cheap as dirt. Of course my wife hates the fact that the garage has a box (OK maybe boxES is more accurate) of "junk" which I know are treasures in disguise.

Just retired at the end of October as a bank Chief Compliance Officer trying to explain and help sales and support people, who do not want the help, to abide by federal and state laws and regulations. Over 30 years in the industry beginning as an auditor. Now, chief cook and bottle washer at home while my wife continues to work. Had no idea how much stress I was under until I retired. :astonished:
