How do you think Finback would handle presales?

Interesting. I think they were honestly shocked by the response. I don't understand how you wouldn't anticipate the backlash. But I think they are trying to figure it out on the fly as a result.

Yeah, I'm getting the same vibe. I think it's going to be messy. This is going to be my first BQE release.

They've done BQE presales in the past, I believe through Paypal. Probably not the best time to experiment with a new system, but I just found out about Oznr (owned by the same company that owns BeerAdvocate) its like Eventbrite but for beer releases/memberships.

Looks like they're doing in person sales at both spots $22 a bottle except DB is $24. In person sales both sites, but presale is available. However looks like it's half/full allotment only, not individual bottles. So $200/$400 for 9/18 bottles to picked up Sunday. Still, A LOT of potential for a messy situation, but I guess traders and resellers will do the presale I'd hope. Man that's a lot of beer in a time when beer shares are not a stellar idea. Guess they can keep/age at least six months or so adjunct-ed and shouldn't change too much. I presume a year though at least if they're top notch? Well enjoy anyone going for it. Stay safe.

Presale details announced. What a joke. I don’t want to purchase every bottle, the granola and chai sound horrible.

    2020 BQE Release
We are extra excited about this year’s batch, the base started super smooth and hits all the BQE notes, coffee, chocolate, toffee, barrel; and the variants are on point.

BQE, Banana Nut, Granola and Chai limit 4 btls/person, $22 ea. Double Barrel limit 2 btls /pp, $24 ea.

This annual event is something we look forward to each year as a time for warmth and celebration, but this year our focus is turned to safety. Here are some additional measures we are taking to make this release as safe as possible:

    - bottles will be released this Saturday 12/12 concurrently at both our Queens and Brooklyn Taprooms, which will reduce crowds at either location
    - the Queens taproom will be TO-GO Only and sales will be outdoors
    - the Brooklyn taproom will have socially distanced indoor seating, but ALL BOTTLE sales will occur outdoors
    - bottles will also be sold Presale (please see details in comments below), for pickup on SUNDAY. We recommend purchasing bottles presale which will reduce crowds at any given time
    - there is ample space for socially distanced queues at both locations, but we do not anticipate large crowds due to presales

We hold safety as our top priority and we ask for your help to ensure safety for all. Please maintain proper social distancing at all times and masks must be worn at all times. It should go without saying that if you are sick, have any symptoms or should be quarantined as per NY travel guidelines - do not come to this release. Please email [email protected] with any questions. Thank you.

    PRESALE DETAILS

FULL ALLOTMENT is 4 bottles each BQE, Banana Nut, Granola, Chai and 2 bottles of Double Barrel (18 btls) $400.

    HALF ALLOTMENT (9 btls) $200.

We will open presales via our toast ordering site (check highlights for link) today at 6pm with approximately half our inventory and again tomorrow, Friday at 11am with remaining inventory. Disregard toast messages about delivery - ALL ORDERS MUST BE PICKED UP on SUNDAY. Please make sure to select the item that matches pickup location. You can order either a HALF Allotment or a FULL Allotment, any orders for more than a FULL allotment will have the difference refunded and only a FULL Allotment will be available for pickup. All pickups must be on SUNDAY 12/13 with a grace period for pickup on MONDAY and TUESDAY at each pickup location. NO REFUNDS. No Refunds for beer not picked up after grace period. NO PROXIES. ID at pickup must match order name.

Yeah, I'm sure they weren't happy about getting cornered into it
Yeah, I was disappointed with the result, too. I'm sure they weren't happy being cornered into pre-sales, so they might have decided to do it in a way that allows them to say they are offering the option while effectively convincing 90% of the people buying to come in person and stand in line.

This is quite embarrassing for Finback. I don't see how they could look at their release plan and honestly think that this will prevent a crowd from forming on Saturday. The vast majority of people are not trying to buy 200-400 dollars worth of beer at once.

They should've done a 5-bottle option. But they either want to force people to buy beer they don't want or force them to show up in person.
