    Good afternoon NBW
I have a second new Indiana beer for today
    [IMG]
    Taxman S'morecast

Their description: Good times are predicted with S'morecast, our Belgian-style dark ale inspired by rich, creamy s'mores. This ale features a biscuity, rich body from lactose and sweet molasses. Notes of cinnamon, dark chocolate and vanilla are also trending high in this decadent treat.

    The review:
12oz canned 11/10/20 (one month ago) poured into a snifter at fridge temp 6% ABV 20 IBU. The beer pours dark brown with thick medium brown head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. The aroma is faint with lactose sweetness and possibly a hint of graham & cocoa. The taste is semisweet & spiced with the cinnamon, vanilla and and chocolate all there before the it settles into a Belgian dark ale. Minimal bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium plus bodied with average carbonation and a somewhat dry finish. Overall, good. The aroma is just unpleasant to me and I'm not a huge cinnamon-in-my-beer fan. It's well made and I can see some people loving it.

Hoping the Taxman bourbon barrel aged quad I have for tomorrow is more to my tastes. Cheers all!

Greetings BA! I'm starting a bit early today with a nice English Dark Mild thanks to @zid:

This is a wonderful beer, delicate yet full of complexity. Toasted pumpernickel seems to dominate, but is also willing to take a back seat to other elements as you work your way through the glass. Spicy fruitcake shows up(with candied orange peel for good measure), some chocolate roast bordering on fine smoke, dark caramel (the flavor without the sweetness), even a touch of dried fig. That all sounds like it could be overpowering, but that's the last thing this beer is. The feel is satiny smooth and the finish is very nicely dry. Extremely lovely, and I'd love to have a chance to drink it all day long if I could. Solid A (4.4), and thanks again, Chris!

    3.85/5 rDev -4.9%
    look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75

Poured from a 16oz can dated 10/27/20 to a Nonic at refrigerator temperature.
A hazy gold body sits below a 2 cm head that fades in 5-minutes to a single layer, but laces nicely. It even fights to lace to the bottom of the glass as you tilt to drink.
Aroma is musty, dank, kind of like brown, wet pine needles.
Taste is hop-bitter, piney. A real hop hit. Similar to an imperial West Coast IPA despite the haze and the 6.8 ABV.
Mouth feel is medium with slightly higher than medium carbonation and there is a sense of hop oils.
Overall another nice beer from NEB.

What a a way to go (see picture)

I’ve always been curious about this beer, I always see it have never had it. You may have convinced me to buy some, you make it sound quite good.

I haven’t seen yet either, but I intended to post about it here if I do come across it.

Pale yellow body, straw-like; very lively carbonation; thin, half-finger thick white head. A faint note of wheat-like grain; grassy and lemony. A light biscuit or cracker flavor with just a twinge of lemony flavor. Light body; weak and very watery; midly dry.

This is my second beer from this brewery, and things seem dicey. The initial impression was okay, but the thin head soon disappeared completely, so the 3.5 rating is generous. And this was one of the highlights of the beer. The beer suffers from lack of body and depth of flavor and aroma. It's palatable, but really just a weak attempt all over.
    ---------
Man, it's been a good day overall, so it is with regret that I drain pour this beer.

It's not that it is undrinkable, it just lacks depth, body, and any real wow-factor. And it has a low ABV, yet I'd rather save my few remaining liver cells for something more satisfying for this frigid, late Fall day of light snow and overcast skies.

And being billed as a hefeweizen, and having sampled many fine examples in (then) West Berlin and West Germany back in the late 80s, I know what a good hefeweizen can be like, even a decent American wheat beer. But this beer certainly lacks the classic phenol banana and cloves aspects expected from a hefeweizen, and comes across weak and watery for a basic wheat beer. And so it goes, in this case, down the drain, not for poor taste per se, but just being a weak sister...

My first from the Holiday BIF box from @woemad box while prepping dinner. Yes it involves Chioggia Beets, Black Rice and fresh local scallops. The Beer:
    Georgetown Johnny Utah PA.
Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow with a foamy white head that settles rather quickly to a thin ring.
Aroma is lemon, orange, grapefruit, mild floral/grassy, grace notes of tropical fruits.
Taste follows with citrus, lightly toasted malts, finishing with light pine bittereness.
Body is medium/light, nice carbonation, dries out on the finish.
A really nice APA with a decent kiss of hops. A nice easy thirst quencing drinker. Could knock back a few of these on a warm day or after a workout. Thanks man!

L - somewhere between haze and clear. Supposedly wcipa in style. Good head but non existent lacing.
S - strange combo of white grape, honeydew melon, and some dank pine floor.
T - Rounded bitter pine melon.
F - good carbonation. Nothing surprising..
O - really solid beer featuring the new Talus hop. A surprise.

Somewhat clear brown body, no head. Smell does invoke apple pie with the cinnamon, apple, caramel, with the wheat, dark fruit, and bourbon backing, best aspect of the beer. Taste follows the nose, but it is pretty sweet and decently warm with booze. Apple caramel flavors in general run away with it high up on the palate. Not as believable as apple pie, but a dessert wheatwine for sure. Feel is my biggest issue however, the wheatiness which should star in the style, is relegated to a subtle finishing texture under a shellac of sweetness and booze. It is good, have soon for dessert, but not sure if I need to have again. The wife liked it

This is delicious *huge* coconut notes I don't normally appreciate but it works here mixed with the tangerine and other junk to make it taste like candy. Crushable, medium outfield.

Great Raft Life Itself Cherry Limeade Gose, 4.5% ABV & 3.76 overall

Out of retirement, my can was brewed in Oct 2020, also 4.5% ABV now

Pours an effervescent & hazed gold with a pinky of fast-falling beige colored head. Minimal head retention & lacing

    S: Cherry kool-aid powder and that's it

T: Lime, dryness, a little salt & a little bit of sweet cherry on the tip of the tongue up front. Lime & cherry sweetness mix with dryness and just little grassy hop as this warms. Finishes dry with sweet cherry & just a little lime & salt

MF: Light body, restrained carbonation. Carbonation goes almost flat over time

Drinks really easy, wanted more intensity of flavor

Good evening NBWers. I have a couple of beers tonight from our beer nerd friend @tasterschoice62. This is from a magnificent box he sent me for NBW BIF 12.5, a special holiday “mini BIF” that has HUUUUGE boxes of great beers flying (or crawling in some cases) around the country.

First up, this NEIPA from Other Half.

Pours a very hazy, almost turbid pineapple color with a bone white head that is positively clingy. The nose has an earthy/vegetal, earthy note up front that is interesting and leads to mango and berry notes.

The earthy/vegetal notes on the nose are also present on the taste, and work really well with the fruity flavors imparted by the mango and berry. The mouthfeel is softer and a bit creamy (I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s wheat malt in the grain bill), making this very drinkable.

This is an interesting spin on a hazy, and I am really digging it, but the earthy/vegetal notes may catch some beer nerds off guard.

    Hey NBWers,

I did a stupid last week. I went to my buddy Mark's house with a tallboy of Civil Society's 5, courtesy of @FrankenMiller, and forgot to post it on NBW. I think The 11% abv might've had something to do with it. Although a proper review was unable to be done under the circumstances, I can report it was both very good and had absolutely no sign in the taste of that high alcohol content. Said alcohol content did, however, become obvious about an hour later, by which time I was eating dinner, when I was forced to conclude that I was a bit drunk!
    Many thanks, Gene!

This afternoon, I hit a Munich Dunkel from local brewery Brick West.
Yes, it was enclosed in a mason jar. As to why, it's a long story, one that the curious can find in the NWBYAYDN thread from a couple week's ago. Anyway, while not a revelatory experience, it's a quite nice, mildly sweet dark lager.

I hope this is Loncium from Garntner, because I entered it as a new beer under that belief...

500ml can served in a tulip. Day 12 of my advent calendar. EXP 2022/05.

Pours a brownish-amber, clear, with a fairly large head and some thick lacing. Smell is grainy, clean, grassy.

Taste is interesting. Hint of coffee and toffee, grainy, strong bitterness that makes me think of nuts. Definitely has some bitter bite at the end.

Mouthfeel is light and crisp, kind of dry. Overall, I'm digging this beer. I think my favorite of the advent calendar so far.

I am saying good-bye to the Oktoberfest beers for the year, and I am ending on an excellent note with this fine, imported example - very smooth mouthfeel with plenty of toasty malt, yet always refreshing and quaffable. This would be a fine beer year-round.

No, it's German, from the Costco Brewer's Advent Calendar. The label is super hard to read, Garntner was the brewery I could find in the database that seemed right, but they didn't have a Vienna lager listing.
