    This morning about 7:30...

Mrs. FleskBrewFan: Do you remember trying to turn the TV off with your watch last night?

Me: Nope, but that explains this hangover.

Mrs. FleskBrewFan: Looks like YOU were destroyed by the empire.

Me: Indeed, I think I need a beer

    Now...

Mrs. FleskBrewFan: Are you drunk again?

    Me: No comment.

    Mrs. FleskBrewFan: Goddamnit...

If we can get Mrs. FleskBrewFan to interview GuyFawkes it is game over for any other podcasts.

Let me explain it- because the powers at be don’t find using third use barrels to be as profitable when the infection risk is taken into account.

Guy Fawkes' Revolution COVID-era Crowler Power Rankings

    1) Deth's Tar Single Barrel #560: one of the better beers I've had...ever, really. Fudge, bourbon, caramel, oak & cream flavors. Once this bad boy warmed up to room temperature, it tasted like the greatest brownie I could possibly imagine. A stunner.

    2) Double Barrel VSOD - Apple Brandy: Apple Brandy & caramel heavy up front; oak, bourbon & dark chocolate notes on the finish. The dark chocolate took the lead as this warmed up. Delightful, all around.

    3) Double Barrel Billy Limited: Caramel, cream & oak heavy up front, smoke & mild bourbon heat on the finish, but they never dominated the base beer. Possibly the best Scotch Ale I've ever tasted.

    4) Form Of The Destructor: The oak & bourbon were really strong at first, but gave way to dark chocolate & caramel as it warmed up. Not the most complex, but certainly well worth trying.

    5) Deth's Tar Single Barrel #4250: Bourbon, oak & dark chocolate up front; great marshmallow notes emerged as it hit room temperature.

    6) Destroyed By The Empire: Fudge and STRONG bourbon heat up front; strong oak presence on the finish. Simple flavors to this palate, but very effective.

    7) Cursed Man: Mild raspberry & cream flavors on the front end; booze heat & faint dark chocolate emerged as it warmed. Maybe the most interesting, flavor wise, but it wasn't as bold or memorable as the beers above it.

    8) Deth By Berries: almost a throwback to the Gene series days, as this was thin. The fruit flavors were spot on, though...a bit thicker on the base and this could have been really special.

    9) My poor liver, which is worse for the wear.

Ryeway is just delightful. I was outside for a while today and having a Ryeway was the perfect way to warm up. Don't think it's any less sweet than last years, if anything I'd say it's a tad sweeter. Drank a 19 a few weeks ago so it's relatively recent comparison.

Drank Coffee Eugenes with Dark Matter and Metropolis. Both solid but preferred Metropolis - smooth, more coffee taste. The Dark Matter was bitter and coffee came through more in the aroma than taste.

For you French pressers, cinnamon sticks with reg deths tar is pretty awesome. Would love to see what rev could do with a cinnamon variant. Also tried with cinnamon and vanilla bean and that was good as well

How long will deep woods beers be able to be found on shelves in the city? Not looking for anything particular, just interested in trying something from revs barrel program and I have a totally beer clueless family member in the city who will do some muling for me as long as it doesn't require anything more than asking for something specific at binnys

Had a DB and a Mineshaft last night. Holy shit, both are incredible. It's going to take some very serious self-control to stick to my original plan of giving my brother a mixed assortment of beer for Christmas using some of these cans. I'll probably crack a Ryeway tonight and decide an Amazon gift-card is a perfectly acceptable present.

I don't think I said enough about DB VSOD earlier. Being a lover of giant ass stouts and really heavy barrel flavors in BA stouts, it was one of the best beers I've had in a while. I'd say it's better than the 2019 BCBS Double Barrel I had two months ago, which is high praise because that beer was delicious (and considerably more expensive).

Anyway, Ryeway is great. Deep Wood is just one home-run after another.

It's fantastic, and is exactly as advertised after 4 years in Woodford Double Oaked Barrels:
oaky, malt-derived chocolate and graham, then rapidly yielding to a lumberous overlord cloaked in cherry and vanilla - 15.6%.

Revolution will bottle and can its beers
    By BY JOSH NOEL
    MAR 30, 2011 AT 12:00 AM

One reason I haven't been too worried about Anheuser-Busch's takeover of Goose Island Beer Co. is that even if Goose is ruined – which I don't necessarily think will happen – there will continue to be no shortage of great craft beer.

The latest evidence: Revolution Brewing, which opened as a brewpub in Logan Square in February 2010, is building a production brewery. By January 2012 – and hopefully well before that, owner Josh Deth says – Revolution beer will be in bars and on Cook County shelves.

Revolution will can its flagship beers year-round – Bottom Up Belgian Wit (a Belgian-style white ale), Anti Hero India Pale Ale and Eugene (a chocolate porter) – and at least a couple of seasonals (October fest and Fistmas, a heavily-hopped brown ale spiced with ginger and orange peel). Its reserve line – a milk stout, a barrel-aged milk stout and a saison – will be put into 22-ounce bottles.

The canning line, Deth says he was told, once belonged to Stroh's. He's still weighing whether to package his beer as four 16-ounce cans or six 12-ounce cans (I voted for the latter).

Deth already has two successful ventures behind him – Handlebar restaurant (which he recently sold his stake in to avoid being in violation of the state's three-tiered system liquor laws) and the Revolution brewpub at 2323 N. Milwaukee Ave. But seeing his beer on shelves will be the culmination of a dream dating to when Deth was a Goose Island brewer in the late 1990s.

Having seen the strain of keeping up with demand of other craft breweries, he will be limiting his beer to Cook County, at least at first.

"We've wanted to be Chicago's next hometown beer even before Anheuser-Busch bought Goose Island," he said. "Now it gives us even more passion."

Jim Cibak, head brewer at the brewpub who has previously worked for Goose Island, Three Floyds and Firestone Walker brewing companies, will handle the same responsibilities at the production facility.

The 35,000-square-foot plant, in the 3300 block of North Kedzie Avenue, will also include a 3,000-square-foot tap room and a quality control laboratory.

"We're following the Goose Island model of growth – I don't mind saying that," Deth said. "That was our intention from the beginning."

Does that mean if someone eventually wants to buy him out for $38.8 million, he'd listen?

"I want to retire someday, too, like (Goose founder) John Hall does," Deth said with a laugh.
