my "other" career (main being winemaker) is working in a finished product pharma lab for J&J. Where everything tested must exactly meet spec. It's like the opposite kind of pharma work. But like your job, probably a lot of HPLC/UPLC/GC.

I started teaching high school social studies this year. Prior to teaching I worked in a few call centers, as a wine salesman and bartender. Aside from teaching I brew beer, judge beer competitions and am working my way up through the ranks of the BJCP. I took the BJCP written exam last month so knock on wood I will be a national judge when I get my scores back in the spring

Respect to the fellow teachers, I imagine you have had to teach on Zoom, I can't imagine having to teach math in an online format

It is tough, but I’m figuring it out enough. I will say I am a little jealous of social studies and ELA right now, seems like they are doing good better with moving things over to virtual learning without rebuilding all their resources.

I'm a general merchandiser for T.J. Sheehan distributing company. I drive to about ten different stores in a roughly five county area to stock and rotate beers, neaten shelves, build displays, etc.
Our portfolio within this distribution footprint includes some of the major craft beer brands--Bell's, Lagunitas, Dogfish Head, Stone, etc. I don't know how many brands I stock, but a lot. Probably fifty or more. It's pretty crazy.

My wife was a group health underwriter at Mutual Benefit and Prudential. Our son is an actuary in the healthcare area. They have great conversations but I understand none of it.

Sweet. I was inspired to get into science as a career by high school teachers. Now I have two jobs, the one that makes money (pharma chemist for J&J) and the one that makes me happy (winemaking), both of which are all chemistry.
    You make a difference.

You forgot to mention that you also homebrew. How often do you brew a batch? It doesn't sound like you have any time for that.

So in other words, you're just a typical VT resident, only you're leaving out the growing pot part(or maybe that's the "flower farming part!)...

And I mean that with all due respect

When I was getting my biochemistry degree in the late 90's we had a chemist from a pharmaceutical company come talk to us. He said because of the the high failure rate it costs $1 billion to bring one drug to market. I can only imagine how much more expensive it is today. That's why I never complain about the cost of prescription drugs.

Wow the IIT drawing competition - the spring board for many an engineer. I remember thinking that getting a favorable consideration in the contest would translate to an easy A in engineering graphics as a freshman there - the first of many rude awakening during college.

@moodenba I thought the lounge was called "The Bog" - so named because the site of the student union (the building it was in) was a bog prior to development. I was there from 76 - 80 so I think we are only a couple of post away from hijacking the thread.
