New Propagator Series Beer Available in “Crafted Thru Hops” Mixed Pack

Paso Robles & Venice, CA: From Firestone Walker’s Propagator R&D brewhouse in Venice, California comes Comet—the next limited-edition release in the new Propagator Series, available in the latest “Crafted Thru Hops” mixed pack.

The Crafted Thru Hops mixed pack featuring Comet is rolling out to all Firestone Walker markets starting now.

This new mixed pack—12 x 12-ounce cans—also includes three other hoppy beers from one of the nation’s foremost IPA brewers: Mind Haze, a hazy IPA done the Firestone way; the West Coast IPA legend known as Union Jack; and Double Jack, Firestone Walker’s iconic imperial IPA.

    Comet IPA: Limited Single-Hop Release
Comet is a classic yet largely overlooked American-grown hop variety that has become a favorite of the Firestone Walker brewing team—inspiring them to create this single-hop hazy IPA that offers a bright floral citrus fruit character with hints of coconut. “During selection in Yakima Valley, we walked through a Comet hop yard and were struck by how good it looked on the bine with these big, gnarly green cones,” said Brewmaster Matt Brynildson. “Rubbing some fresh-picked hops in the field convinced us that it was worth following up, and we fell in love with the results once we started brewing with it.”

Mind Haze: Let Your Mind Wander
From the coast of California comes Mind Haze, a free-spirited beer made to elevate your perceptions—juicy, fresh and loaded with an imaginative array of tropical hop flavors. This is a hazy IPA done the Firestone way. Mind Haze is ultimately a beer that breaks the mold with explosive hop aromas, a luscious texture and enduring freshness.

    Double Jack: Back by Demand
Famed as one of the craft world’s trailblazing double IPAs, Double Jack is back by popular demand as a limited seasonal release. In the words of Brewmaster Matt Brynildson, “We stayed very true to the original recipe and the spirit of a legendary West Coast double IPA.” The result is a massively hopped yet improbably balanced double IPA—and an enduring throwback to the freewheeling origins of the West Coast style.

    Union Jack: Loud & Proud
Huge flavor that packs a punch. This is Union Jack—an icon of the West Coast IPA style, for those who like their beer loud and proud. Union Jack is the IPA that helped blaze the trail for the revolutionary West Coast style. Named for the British Lion who cofounded the brewery, Union Jack is intensely hoppy yet eminently drinkable from start to finish. A fad-proof IPA for any hop head.

Comet is such a killer and under appreciated hop.

Have you ever brewed a beer that featured Comet hops? If so, what flavors did you pick up?

    Cheers!

I have, two or three now! Not a single hop, but blended with others. It gives an herbal, dank resinous type character. Some grapefruit or citrus. It reminds me of CTZ, which I also love. Its so cheap, too! I think I paid like $10 for a pound of it!

Last time I used it, I threw a bunch into the dry hop because of the epic aroma. So potent. I couldn't get over how amazing it smelled. The finished beer was delicious.

My IPA I'm brewing this weekend will feature Comet too.

I don’t buy mixed packs ever, but I’d but this one if fresh just for the Double Jack. If it’s fresh I’m buying, but out distro here sucks, if it gets here it’ll be April. Love FW beers.

Wow! That is very different from what was detailed above: "...offers a bright floral citrus fruit character with hints of coconut."

Hops and what they exactly contribute to beer can be a very, very vexing thing. Not all hop crops are the same and how they are utilized in the brewing process can result in differing aspects in the resulting beer (and other factors as well).

    Cheers!

Me a year ago would have been all over this. Me today says 'meh'. I hopped off the IPA train, though I still enjoy them at times (hello Celebration, my friend).

Yes! I passed on their most recent variety pack in our market pictured below, but would love this if fresh, with Mind Haze the only meh offering. Never really hunt down haze, beyond an occasional M-43 and Hop Butcher.

Union Jack is my all time favorite beer, so I would buy this in a minute, esp. with Double Jack as a bonus. Unfortunately, IF it shows up here, it will at least 4 months old. With all of the constant examples of SN products being so old sitting on the shelves in so many places, why doesnt SN kick some ass on their distributors to get their shit together? This is ridiculous. Sierra Nevada is an original and premier craft brewer that could be an even bigger major player in the market but their lack of attention in how their beer is physically marketed on the shelves is pitiful. If there is some reason for their lackluster performance that I am missing, please let me know, as I find it hard to believe in todays tight market that SN would knowingly let so much of their potential market go unserviced.

FW turning into another Stone, aside from their barrel aged stuff all they make now is IPAs. They changed (for the worse) UJ and DJ just like Stone ruined their IPA and Ruination.

I have been wondering the same thing (for many years). On the brighter side they recently came out with a new beer: Dankful IPA. I have been buying a lot of that beer over the few months since they are fresh at my local beer retailers (since it is a newly released product). I am not sure how long this freshness aspect will last but I am enjoying the moment. As a heads up this beer needs to be consumed very fresh. I have noticed that at the 2 month mark there is notable hop fade in this brand.
I have made numerous inquiries on this topic and I have been unable to figure this out. If you 'crack the code' here let me know. For the past few years the only SN beers I have been purchasing are seasonal (e.g., Celebration Ale) and new releases (e.g., Dankful IPA this year). A few years ago I would purchase their seasonal 12-packs (Spring pack, Fall pack) but they discontinued these variety packs so needless to say I no longer buy these.

    Cheers!

They do still produce a high quality Pilsner: Pivo Pils. My local Retail Beer Distributor has several cases of this beer on their shelf but unfortunately those beers are old so...

In my area FW has the same problem of SN - lots of old product sitting around.

    Cheers!

Sweet! We usually get new FW stuff fairly quickly, so this is a chance to get fresh Union Jack and Double Jack. Getting the new Comet and the fairly dependable (for a nationwide NEIPA) Mind Haze is a bonus.

That's great they still make Pivo, like you, it's usually at least a year old when I've seen it and don't even bother checking anymore.

Well, I am slightly more fortunate in the the Pivo Pils is several months old at my local store but the net result is the same: a non-purchase.

There are many locally brewed Pilsners available to me and I can find those beers in fresh condition so I buy them instead. If I ever 'luck out' and see Pivo Pils fresh I do buy it but it has been a couple of years since this happened.

    Cheers!

I wonder. FW has an online beer store that ships inside California. I checked about a month ago and Pivo status was 'sold out'. I just checked again and it's not even listed in the store.

This is what my local Retail Beer Distributor has in stock right now:

    “Fire. Walker Pivo 12oz Cn 6PK 6 Pack 12 Oz. Cans 11.49 2

Fire. Walker Pivo Pils 12oz Cn 24 Pack 12 Oz. Cans 40.99 2”

So, a total of 10 six-packs but as I discussed above these beers are several months old.

As to what the heck is happening at the FW online beer store? Maybe give them a call and see whazzup?

    Cheers!
