This is a good point. I'm not a big fan of Notch NEIPA (or really the style in general), but if I wanted one, I would go elsewhere. People who are ordering delivery or curbside from Notch (my delivery just came) come for many reasons, but probably (1) to support a business they believe in and love and (2) make a style of beer they dig really fucking well. I'd imagine they're brewing beers in Salem for those people.

I hear you- Many years ago I was in England for work and had an extra day to chill- I spent it in a cosy pub drinking cask beer, reading, and chatting with the locals. It was glorious- one of my fondest memories.

I need to experience that. Hoping to do it at least once before my final exit.

I enjoy the Voll NEIPAS quite a bit, possibly because they are a touch different for the style. However, I do understand why lots of BAs don’t like them too much.

Drinking a Salem Lager right now. Awesome.

It’s not that I had low expectations of Salem Lager, it’s that I kind of didn’t have any. I ordered just because it filled out my case. And I loved it. Such a delicious beer.

Agreed. And the branding, at least to me, suggests that the beer will be available frequently if not all the time.

Biersal, Cerne, and Desitka all arrived safe and sound today... thinking Biersal will be my first victim.

And I did pick it up. Along with more orders of their other dark goodies.

As much as I love lagers (this is no secret on these forums), arguably my greater love is for English session cask ale. NERAX is about the furthest thing from a Hazeboi crowd that you could get, and I LOVE that about it. Your true beer geeks go there.

I’d love to see a local brewery dedicate their brand to English ales on cask. I think with the tap room culture developed in this area that could be done easily, and succeed.

But it would have to be a tap room that LOOKED the part. Can’t be your ho-hum factory-turned-tap room with flights and corn hole. I need a dark dungeon with no TVs, darts, and conversation.

Remember, “Pub” is short for Publick House. A place to gather with friends and pound beers. Not to dissect flights, listen to blaring music, and watch Sportscenter.

Man all the talk of notch brewing English ales is getting me excited. I have been seeking out local milds and bitters since covid hit. Devils purse ESB is maybe one I’ve had most recently and it was ok, but to be able to get an alt, Schwartz, mild, Czech pils all from notch...my head would explode.

Deep Ellum was the spot for casks every now and then, but RIP.

loved going to the Euston Tap in London and just crushing cask beers outdoors on a gloomy day.

I will say the Small Change ESB is FANTASTIC.

biersal is perfect - Cerne Pivo is still one of my favorite beers and brings me back to drinking Kozel Dark in Prague. Desitka will be missed.

I've been to England twice but both in high school so didn't get to experience the pub culture. But I did experience the Irish pub culture. I assume they're similar.

I recall one funny story: I was in some sort of chain-y pub in Dublin which had some nice beer. I was chatting with my neighbor and as I ordered a second, some sort of of oyster stout if I recall, he remarked "ooh that's nice but be careful.. It's over 5%!" Made me chuckle. And in fact... he wasn't wrong.

I also went to a craft brewery in Galway and it was very far from cool. Give me a Guinness at real pub any day.

Thanks for the suggestion, I like their Dark Mild, I’ll have to check this one out. Barely any ESBs out there. Would be nice if Fuller’s was ever fresh...

It’s cool, we both fucked up. You said Small Change, I should have remembered that’s the name of their Mild...that I’ve drank on more than one occasion.

    Agreed.

What are the big differences between a schwarzbier and Czech dark lager?
